  1. I met yesterday with the surgeon, psychologist, and nutritionist and really connected/felt comfortable with all three, so I have finaly decided on the Scottsdale Bariatric Center here in Arizona. They answered all my questions, even the ones I thought were stupid, and really made me feel like a person and not like a dollar sign/number as I have experienced in the past with other surgeons. I meet with my PCP doc tonight to start on the 6-month medically supervised weightloss diet and and really excited about being on my journey! I have decided to get the gastric bypass surgery as I do not enjoy doctor visits or needles, so I think the after-care for the lapband would be more than what I could handle. Just a personal choice...plus I have 140 pounds to lose and wnat to do that as soon as possible. I know it is going to be a lot of work, but just thought I would share my excitement...I am on my way!
  2. I attended another seminar this weekend at Scottsdale Healthcare (not impressed by first one with Banner) here in Arizona and was really impressed with the surgeon and the program. I went in thinking I was interested in the Lap-Band, but came away thinking I may want the GBP instead. How did you all come to the decision of the Lap-Band and why? Thanks, Lisa
  3. I attended my first seminar today, but to tell you the truth, I have learned more on this site than all of the literature they gave me. The doctor (not the one who was scheduled to be there) came in and did a 30 min presentation, answered a few questions and scooted on out as quickly as he came in. Then a dietician came up and she was from New Jersey or New York and seemed quite rude and impatient. (not that all people from that area are, but she fit the profile!) All in all, I am concerned that I might only be seen as a number and not a person. The funny thing is, the hospital is a Banner hospital and for those of you in the Phoenix area, you now how highly recommended Banner physicians and hospitals are. I guess I expected more. I am wondering if anyone else out there has had the procedure at Banner Gateway in Gilbert, AZ and if they could let me know about their experiences with their surgery. My physician's name is Dr. Podkameni...has anyone heard of him? Thanks for any help...Lisa
  4. Hi everyone! I have been looking at getting banded and have made an appointment for the free informational seminar. I did find out my insurance does cover the services 100%, so I am hoping to be a good candidate and that the requirements are something I can handle. I live in Phoenix and have actually just gained weight my whole life. In high school, I was a normal, healthy size and quite beautiful actually. Now I am the pretty fat girl and I have absolutely no energy to participate with my three kids. I am really hoping that this surgery could give me my life back and allow me to "participate" in life instead of watching from the sidelines! Thank you to all who post their personal struggles as the truth is what I am looking for on here. I don't just want to get caught up in the before and after photos and think that happened overnight. -Lisa
