Hi everyone, I am 15 months post op and have lost a total of 96lbs. I had my last fill two months ago and happy that I had finally gotten restriction. The past few days I have been constantly clearing my throat, and have had some pain in my middle back. This morning when I woke up I felt really tight, in fact I was getting the little hiccup that tells me I’m full but had not eaten anything. When I got home from church I ate some salad and now it feels like Its stuck at the back of my throat but not like a regular PB kind of stuck. I keep swallowing and swallowing and it’s still there. I have been drinking some hot coffee which seems to help a little. I have not had any PBing or anything like that so that couldn’t be it, I have started taking a new med that I have to swallow whole but they are not particularly large but I didn’t start having pain until I started the meds which may be the cause. I guess I am wondering if I have slipped my band?? Anyone have experience with the clearing the throat thing??? Any advice would be appreciated. Jen

8 1/2 weeks post-op and disgusted.....

I’m sorry that you are frustrated and I don’t want to take anything away from your vent because it is ok to feel the way you feel. There are a lot of things your Dr doesn’t tell you. I feel like I went into this blind even though I thought I had done my research. There was nothing in the surgery pamphlet that told me about PB'ing which I found out after surgery. It does take a lot of time to get to restriction. I have the smallest band and it took me a year to get there, but he’s right...if you adjust too fast without letting your stomach heal from the last fill it can hurt you. I do feel like I did this all on my own without help from the band to "put me in check" but it is possible…. I had lost 86lbs at my 1 year check up and that was without having restriction (only had restriction now for two months) I have asked myself why the hell did I have surgery if I could have done this on my own, but the truth is I couldn’t have...the band may have not given me a physical "check" but it did give me a mental "check" I am terrified of messing up my band so I followed the rules. Hang in there, you will get there eventually...but you can do it without having full restriction too. I know how hard it is, I describe it as putting a rock in front of a crack head and telling them they can’t smoke it...food is an addiction at least for me it is and we have to face our addictions three times a day. We can't just quit food like someone can quit smoking. I wish I could tell you that the brain changes with the band, but it don’t fix that part. Best wishes, Jen -
Slipped Band???
Fairy_kissez replied to Fairy_kissez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JoJo, I have been on liquids since yesterday morning (hate it! lol) I plan on staying on liquids until I figure out what is going on. Thanks. Sue, I do get this gurgle burp since my last fill, I usually get this hiccup that tells me I am full but have not eaten anything, so yes that is very strange. I will mention this to the nurse when I call her. Thank you. Larraine, I had my gallbladder out a few months after I had my band placed, and yes the symptoms are very similar which is odd because I don’t have my gallbladder (???) I told my nurse a few months ago that this pain was strange but she insisted that it had nothing to do with the band. Could there possibly be something still going on with the gallbladder area could they have left a stone behind? Thanks for responding. I will update you all on what the nurse says when I call her. I am hoping that I don’t have to drive 4 hours to see the dr and that any testing he may want done can be done here. It’s so frustrating not knowing what is going on. Thanks all who responded. Jen -

Thank you both so much for responding, I think that I may be too tight as well. Its hard to see my Dr. since he is 4 hours away but I will call him tomarrow and see what he wants me to do. This part of the band is so frustrating. -
Hi my name is Jennifer and I am new here. I was banded on April 7, 2009...my new Bday. So far since the process I have lost a total of 52 lbs and 32 since surgery. I love my band, so much. I have had two fills and seem to have found almost a just right spot. I may need a little more maybe 1/2 cc. I have a 8cc band and have a total of 5cc in it. I am looking forward to meeting new bandsters!! Jen

Feeling Kind of Down
Fairy_kissez replied to mgmagnolia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont know about the 20 carbs thing that is really low and from my experience nearly impossiable if you want to eat. There are carbs in almost everything with the exception of meats. If you allow healthy carbs to be taken in it will sure help with losing that 20-30 lbs that your doc has asked you to lose. I did not have to do any long term pre-op diets only day before liquid only and in just that one day I had lost 6 bs and walked out of the hospital 10lbs lighter, not bad for just two day even with all the IV Fluid. I think as long as you follow the direction of your doc and use the Protein shakes as directed and have only healthy carbs (veggies, low-fat dairy) then you should be fine. I dont eat any bread, Pasta, or rice and those are the ones you should stay away from. Hope that helps. Dont be so down get excited the new you is about to be born! Jen
