Even with a normal system, carbs turn directly into sugar!!!! So think about how quickly that sugar gets dumped into our RNY system. I am almost 4 years out and get very sleepy from carbs. Sometimes I get a headache and really grumpy, best to stick with meat and veggies!!

Hey I'm glad I could be of some help. I think your very brave to be doing this at all, let alone paying out of pocket. I can't imagine doing that at all!! Not that I think the health benefits wouldn't be worth it, but with three children and only my husband working we couldn't save enough. There is always something coming up. God Bless you on your journey. Nora

Good idea about the nickname. I don't know how we would go about that though.

bigmamma78 replied to MaryfromMI's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey Mary, I am from MIchigan also. I'm going through doctor Schram in Holland. He does his operations in Yplilanti at the Barix Clinics. That is all the entire hospital does. From my info these guys are supposed to be the best. God Bless. Nora -

Hi I haven't started my pre-op diet yet, but I do understand some of the reasoning behind this. So my geuss is partially your doing shakes to adjust to the diet you'll have to follow afterward. 96 carbs is still considered low under 100 is low. Take a diabetic diet 15 carbs are considered one carb exchange. So, your getting one carb exchange per meal. The shakes are also low fat, but what about fiber and protien. The protien is to balance out the carb intake. If there is any fiber that is subtracted from the carbs. Anyway some people have had there surgery put off due to a fatty liver. And from the sounds of the shakes they should help with that. Try to stay positive this is a life change three weeks may feel like forever but it really is not that long. If it bothers you so much call your doc and ask if there is another way. God bless you in your wieght loss journey. Nora

Can I get a Gastric bypass after a lap band
bigmamma78 replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nancy, Thanks for responding. I have been reading and reading and reading. I know several people who have had RNY and lost a lot of weight and hair and have to have shots or supplements everyday or month. I only know one person who has the band, she's struggling. I also have three little girls. I just don't think I can do something so drastic at this time in my life. Maybe if I were older. I'm just praying I do the right thing and that it works. I was going to do RNY I felt terrified. Since I've changed my mind to band I feel very hopeful. God Bless You!! Nora:biggrin: -
Can I get a Gastric bypass after a lap band
bigmamma78 replied to AnnieMae's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I gotta tell you this is a scary post for me. I am getting the band on September 30th. I have an outrageous appetite. I rarely feel full. I can lose wieght on my own but can't keep it off. How where you before you had the band? I believe with God we can do this. Thank you. Nora -

What the heck is wrong with me....
bigmamma78 replied to Petunia825's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey it takes awhile to undo what you've been doing. So at your next meal try harder. Maybe plan ahead what your going to eat and fit in fruit. Then you'll be getting the carbs your craving the healthy way. I haven't been banded yet and I'm trying really hard to start changes now. Good luck and God bless you. Nora -
Concerns w/out answers...
bigmamma78 replied to Laur86n's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Congrats on your pregnancy!! That is awesome. Most likely from your wieght loss, that's how I became pregnant all three times. That and God. You will be amazed how much your body is going to change. You'll have pains and other things just due to being pregnant. I'm not banded yet ank no longer able to get pregnant. I think there is a thread you could seach on banded and pregnant. I think most women have an unfill. Also the medical field is changing the weight gain amount for obese patients. So you don't want to lose, but may not need to gain. I think for prego and nursing moms you need an extra 300 calories added to what you need to maintain your weight. God bless you and your baby. Nora -
Hey Erin, Don't quote me on this because I may not be correct. My mother-in-law had surgery on her esophogus and they thought she may have to be streched from norrowing. So I think this is something that happens from possibly scarring or the swelling from haveing surgery and then the opening is not large enough. I don't know how common this is, but your definitely not alone. I hope this helps and doesn't scare you more. God bless you on your journey to a healthy life. Nora

Weight Watchers and the band?
bigmamma78 replied to PSJ71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am planning on following ww once I have my band. I think I will be eating more protien and less of everything else. I do not want to lose my hair. This happened to my mother. She was doing only ww and not getting enough protien. We will really have to watch what we eat!! -
:thumbup:That is totally awesome. Keep up the good work. Just remember how much more we can glorify God with a strong healthy body!!!!

First checkup after surgery--NO FILL!
bigmamma78 replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job on your weight loss. This is very encouraging to me. I'm getting banded on september 30th. I wondered if this ever happened. It didn't seem like it, but I'm really hoping it does to me. Why did you change your goal weight? I'm just curious. -
Financing - What insurance won't cover
bigmamma78 replied to sberrys's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hooray for you for doing this together. I think that is awesome!!! Insurance usually has a top for co-pays per person, per family. So I would contact your insurance most bcbs is pretty good. There going to want codes from the doc. You should also be sure your going through a doc that participates with your insurance. Sometimes these hang ups are a sign from above, maybe your not ging throught the right doctor. May the Force be with you. God bless you both. -
Good luck to you all!!! May God bless you with this surgery.

what if my bmi changes before surgery
bigmamma78 replied to bigmamma78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you!!!!! I thought that must be the case, because they want you to start losing before surgery. I just wasn't sure. I can lose weight I just can't keep it off. -
okay just to be clear I am very overweight. I have no excess health problems and don't want them. My bmi is 42, but if I lose about 15 pounds I'm under 40 so, will this cancel out my surgery? I'm concerned of the weight loss from the pre op diet. Or once you've qualified with your initial weigh in that is what stands? Help!!!:tongue2:

Hey I also have pcos who new it could create such havoc in or bodies. I have begun the process to have the band done. I'm going through Dr. Schram in Ypsilanti, MI. I have lost about 300 pounds in the past ten years. The same twenty even up to fifty pounds over and over. This is so discouraging. :rolleyes2:
