formerfatchick replied to Jodi73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jenny CONGRATS !!!!! Let me know how your hospital experience goes at NYU !!! AWESOME !!! BTW are you going to the support group tommorow? it's @ 6 pm Skirball conf room on the 2nd floor D elevators. Highly recommended for pre-ops. I'll be there! -
Hi ait, I'm being banded by Dr Ren @ NYU in august and was just wondering what your hospital experience was like ? DId you stay ON or go home same day? Where the nurses nice and caring or otherwise ?? any tips you could give ?? Thanks !!

okay very SPECIFIC question here (I'm trying to be as non offending as I can)...in the (umm) being " lip serviced" position does the crunching of your stomach muscles due to the position of the knees cause any discomfort ?? ( blushing & LMAO) !!!

This thread is a god send !! thank you ladies !! I was having the same kind of questions and had no idea who to ask !! My hubby and I are quite active and sexually charged people ( me more so than him..but HAY !!) so I was trying to figure out how to break it to him that there would be none for 2 weeks ( wimper !!). I'm glad to see that it wont have to be that long ( yeay !!) My one question is ( here comes the graphic part) knees up to your chest or legs up in the air doesnt that put pressure on your stomach area and make it hurt ? Ive got a giggly belly will the extra pushing by giggling the cushing too much ( LOL!) Again thanks so much ladies I look forward to reaping the benefits of the sheding weight !!!

My best friend talked me into it and boy has that been the best thing EVER !!! Yea it hurts a little but it's nothing to die over. A good waxer is the key, I go to Uni K wax and they're just AWESOME !! They have this special kind of wax formulation that just does a great job with minimal skin pulling and they're not that expensive compared to other way crazy NYC salons !! Check them out they have branches in severla different states !! Im bare & happy !!!

Hi my hubby was a little sketchy at first but he eventually came around. his concern was that he didnt really understand what the surgery was and what it involved. He wanted to make sure it was safe and how it would affect my life down the road. Have you tried asking him what his objections are ? Maybe he needs to learn what it's all about. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps

OK, Who has an AUGUST surgery date??!!

Someone else in my surgeon's office is getting their fills there but had the procedure done in Mexico and said it was great !! She got a vacation out of the whole thing...go figure !! Best of luck !! -
My turn..My name is Jacquie, I'm 31 yrs old living in NYC. I'm 5'4 and currently weigh about 265. I've been at this weight ( my heaviest) for about 2 years and like everyone else hear diets have done zippo !! Last time I saw 1's was about 6 + years ago. I'm doing the lapband and My surgery date has been set for aug 10th @ NYU with Dr. Ren. I've had all my pre-recs for the insurance done and am just waiting for Horizon BCBS to give the approval. I'm both super excited about this change and taking back control of my life but at the same time I'm anxious and nervous. Adelarosa, as far as I understand approval can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 months, it depends on your insurance coordinator and how quickly she submits the forms and pushes the bariatric nurse from your insurance for a decision. The average at my surgeon is about 2 weeks. Any good ideas for the liquid pre-op diet? there are like 10 million Protein shakes !! How to chose without wating a small fortune ??? Hope to hear from y'all & be as supportive as I can !!

OK, Who has an AUGUST surgery date??!!
formerfatchick replied to Jodi73's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many of us seem to have the same concern about the liquid pre op phase and it is my major fear..the whole reason I am here at 100 lbs over what I should be and with pre-diabetes and a bunch of other stuf is because I could never control my appetite. So how am I supposed to do this ???? !!! It's gonna be real hard and real fight but we all do this now, and prep ourselves for the coming out of our true selves stuck under all the weight or we dont and kick ourselves as we have to pop another pill for some other health issue due to the weight !! I am going to try to be incredibly optomistic & strong here and though I know I will end up in tears on some nights with frustration, I will just remeber that I am not only doing it for myself but for my future family. Support will be the kep to out success and I hope we can all be here for one another as we inch our way to ONEDERLAND !!! -

Hey there Jennyr1222, I am also being banded @ NYU by Dr. Ren on Aug 10th and my liquids start on the 27th and I too feel that it will be my largest battle. Always being hungry is the reason I am where I am !!! I've read that some low fat/ low carb solids might be okay from time to time on the pre-op..any thoughts on that ?? Best wishes to everyone !!! -

Hello All, I have HBCBS of NJ and I've already inqured as to their requirements for WLS approval and have been told the standard response that I need to : Have a BMI above 40 Need doctors letter of medical necessity Need to have documentation of co-morbidities Need a psych consult & a nutritional consult Need 6 months of medically supervised diet & medical attempts. I've pretty much have done all of that and am having my 1s surgical consult with Dr. Ren of NYU on Wednesday. I am just starting to get freaked out about what is my insurnace doesnt approve ??? I've been told that the reviewer for HBCBS is very moody and if shes having a bad day I'm screwed !!! Does anyone have any expereince with horizon and their approval process ?? What do I do if they dont approve ?? :smile2: -

formerfatchick replied to formerfatchick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Wemmie76, You see they never told me of that option when I called !!! They just mentioned the 6 months and the othe stuff !! I wish they would have told me about that route. So I went in for my sugical consult but I need to fix some stuff on my documentation since my dates arent exactly 30 + 1 days apart and I also need to get a 2007 and 2008 evidence of being obese during that time as well. So hopefully I can get all this squared away soon and the insurance taken care of !!!! -

wemmie76, thanks for the encouragement ! I hope everything goes well, I've prety much followed all their requirements so I guess its a waiting game. How did you document your 6 month attempts ? How long did they take to approve from when you got your surgery date ? thanks !! -
Hello, I am having my first surgical consult with Dr. Ren next week and was wondering if any bandester could give me some insights into their experiences with this practice and what tips they have learned since being banded by Dr. Ren ? Did you have any issues with your insurance ? if so did the office take care of it ? Thanks
