Too tight and miserable...
hmarko replied to Teacher2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diamond in the Rough - I've tried this and it helps unfortunately it wasn't enough I did need a small unfil (.3cc).. now I am starving of course. Michelle you probably should be checking in with your dr more frequently for fills (guessing) unless you are eating sliders. How much did you lose the first year and how often did you go to your dr then? Some people here have talked about 'pressure fills on the Realize band' talk to Kiz or search the forum... Mimilou - did you end up getting an unfill? has it gotten better? -

We were talking about this in our support group the other day - its everyone's preference some people like their band looser so they can have room for veggies and a fruit. I had the .3 cc's moved and I am now eating like crazy I was up to 2000 cals today! I don't understand.. I am PMS. So I don't have the same thing you do - maybe I did feel like you did before I had the unfill.. I was eating 1/2 cup thats it.. but then I had the foaming too and choking at night. So who knows. Go by what makes you happy and keeping you losing. I don't think there is a 'normal' but it does seem that everyone likes things different. I still rather be like this than where I was last time. -
One day I can eat and the next I can't :(

Dr said it is normal -
Is unfill this the right thing to do?
hmarko replied to melliecat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hope you are feeling better - same thing happened to me - plus I had a cold so tried to ride out the cold which is never ending.. so i gave in -plus i had to be really careful about not drinking ANYTHING 2-3 hours before bed as I was choking. SO I went for an unfill.. feel better - I will reassess in Jan and inch up on fills going forward. -

liquid motrin did help me when I was overfilled but I was no where near where I couldn't hold down liquids.. chances are you won't be able to hold that down either. but try. but do call the doc -

Stress, TOM, Time of Day all affect the tightness of the band. I think we all have that problem. Usually those really loose days end up being followed by really tight days. -

If you can't hold down liquids you can dehydrate quickly and its an emergency situation you need to call your dr's emergency line asap. possibly go to the ER -
WOW! Ask and you shall receive...
hmarko replied to Cherishthepast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so are you saying you are at 12.8 total? I assume a 14cc band. Are you salivating a lot just being on liquids.... we just had a too tight thread going (and both of us went for an unfill) me today the other poster is going tomorrow. Be careful about coughing at night and choking on your saliva. Keep us posted. -
Hmm, where do I start? (sorry so long)
hmarko replied to sweethinkr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also have you had your thyroid checked? I am unclear as to whether you ate your way around the band or there was something else going on or both. Thyroid issues can also cause depression how is your energy level? -
10cc band - how many cc's until restriction?
hmarko replied to LiseSeattle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 10 cc Lapband and I had my 3rd fill bringing me up to 5.9 cc's. I was able to keep liquids and mushies down but solids were a challenge and i was coughing up at night. I couldn't get past 700 calories a day sometimes 500. But truly I couldn't eat more than that half cup. Anyway I had .3 cc's removed I don't konw what i feel yet today I ate quite a bit (1500 calories). -

So today I went up to 1500 cals from 500- 700! So it would figure that now I have PMS and having the hungry PMS not the tight pms... UGH! Still I rather this than the other thing. -

Teacher 2010 you will feel better.....If it makes you feel any better I did call my doctors office and they thought I should try and stick with it if I was eating liquids and mushies (because I had the cold and they felt it would all resolve afterward). I had been in email communications w/ the NP daily and it definitely was better but not where its should be. But 2 weeks later and I give up. I feel so much better I was able to eat today normal food. In fact I think I had some slight soreness in that spot probably from being squeezed so yea there is irratation as everyone has been saying. -

I feel better but I will say one thing this lesson has taught me - I was SOOOOO careful about eating slowly as i was SO SO tight, that I no longer have the eat too fast problem which resulted in the golfball in chest ultimately resulting in a PB! YAY. -

I have been holding down water and mushies but get this slight foam and some mild regurgitation sometimes (two weeks after fill).... they think from Post nasal drip. Well now two times since friday night I choked on my saliva when sleeping (NOT GOOD)... so that was it I went for an unfill .3 cc's. Feel better the food is going down - will try solids when I go home. I got too miserable and impatient w/ it. And the choking really is dangerous can get aspiration pneumonia so I said thats my clear sign. I am PMS and have the cold but so what i am back at doc in 3.5 weeks if I need a fill ( I was originally going to wait that long to get the unfill but decided I can't wait that long). Of course I was days away from my post op free fills (On Friday this was free) and i had to pay out of pocket - my own fault though for not acting quicker. -

Coloradomom - CONGRATS!!! YAY!!! So excited - your almost there! Bostonlady - hang in there - start measuring muscle weighs more than fat. I had those days too where nothing moved and things were looser. I am losing too - but because I'm overfilled! down to 203 - 7lbs since my fill 2 weeks ago. May be going for an unfill though this week. When my nose isn't stuffed up I feel better. -

hmarko replied to Teacher2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Teacher 2010 I'm with you. I'm going on two weeks and things have improved.... but the solid foods are a challenge depending on what I eat.. exmaples rice (sushi I would not have attempted). I still have the cold too though. I can eat thick hearty new england clam chowder, lemon sole, oatmeal. I tried Indian - (minced lamb and rice) it was ok until i overdid it and ate too much then pb'ed. I may go in for an unfill or just hang in there till jan - i haven't lost as much as you 7 lbs in two weeks. You can try and eat less challenging foods till you go in... i am starting to think that fills may be like artwork - everyone has their preferences on what they can or cannot live with. Try some flakey fish like sole; dark meat chicken (the more band friendly foods) - the sushi may be on of those things that when at full restriction you can't have many have said they can't have it. You are prob too tight like me - i'm just debating whether to wait it out to my next appt or not. I'm getting in enough Protein. Fish is very high protein. -
Thinin10 - no one really knows the ettiquette for 9/11... even a new york... I was in the city... did not lose anyone but had friends in that building all that got out... with the years the memories fade for some (like me) but not for others. Ok I have to copy that recipe on a to do list so I don't forget!

Is salad a slider food?
hmarko replied to pookiemp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now I have heard Wendy's chili is one of the healthy choices in fast food (don't know I rarely go to these places) well never since being banded. I was frequenting burger king before being banded (also unusual for me) due to stress eating and that was what got me here 25 lbs in two months up! Kiz so you find raw spinach ok but not iceberg? I wonder if arugula is in the same category as the spinach. One of my favorite things to eat used to be arugula, soy nuts and tuna (or LOBSTER) with olive oil and lemon. I haven't attempted the lobster and there is no way I am now as I am a bit too tight right now. -
Too Tight...How Long Should I Wait to Get an Unfill?
hmarko replied to BonMag's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea he told me to stay on mushies till the cold goes - I've been on semi solids like fish; and I had Indian the chopped ground lamb over rice (today my prob was that i kept eating). Another thing I have found helps have you tried the netti pot or saltaire rinse (its kinda gross but it really helps get rid of the yucky stuff) and i think it helps out your sinuses. I think its been keeping this at bay and making it better. They always say w/ colds to start your day w/ hot liquids. BTW are you getting the foaming also? This is thin foaming that I've been getting like a baby that burps, and salivating. I have found that hours after I have eaten I can get this and again drinking the hot helps (they think that is the post nasal drip). Call your doctor anyway they were great when I called - I started by saying I would rather not get an unfill.... he almost wanted me in for an unfill until he heard about the cold. On the plus side I dropped a lot of weight :w00t: -
Too Tight...How Long Should I Wait to Get an Unfill?
hmarko replied to BonMag's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had this experience. Plus a cold. My surgeon says 2 days of liquids and 2 days of mushies then solid. However by day 2 i knew I couldn't go to mushies yet. I was getting foaming and oversalivating (prolonged). The foaming was thin and not large in volume like tbspns. In general its not an emergency if you are able to drink liquids and keep them down if you can't you need an UNFILL so you don't dehydrate. I stayed on THIN liquids for 3 full days then went to mushies. The whole time I was having this foaming issue. Was on the phone with NYU; they felt it was due to the cold and if I can ride it out on mushies till the cold went away (I was really against getting an unfill because we went aggressive this month for a reason). Anyway a few tips: Advil (liquid/childrens helps get swelling down); so do hot fluids. Listen to your body you really should be only liquids and then mushies. If you really don't want an unfil stay on those things longer (call your doctor). For me I've been better and better everyday. Today I had dark meat chicken and no problems (aside from the post nasal drip foaming). -
I have to remember to try these! I'll probably forget i am a creature of habit. Right now i'm STILL on semi solids - had a cold - been 2 weeks since my fill today i finally managed dark meat chicken. Dry oatmeal? Like instant? Not the steel cut right? I love the passion you have about the snow I know what you mean though i've only experienced it skiing in quiet runs. I live in NYC and I love NYC during the holidays and the decorations!

Jachut what do you do for exercise? Is it weights or cardio? The one where i REALLY feel it is horseback riding (the type I do is a lot of core work and cardio combined). My friend has a theory its because i'm bouncing around so I guess running would fall in that category too? When I did Elliptical I may have felt tighter....who knows all i know after riding i'm starving and can actually eat. I ride on an empty stomach in the AM. -
Foreign Travel & The Band Issues
hmarko replied to Sluggo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
bring Protein powder - I always used it for Breakfast. Do not eat on the plane - you may be tighter than usual. Or if you do have a couple of glasses of wine first (seriously). Try and have 'easy' foods on the plain - mushy. The altitude or air pressure (whatever) causes tightness. I did not experience it but I did have a couple glasses of wine which totally does loosen me up. Also ask you doctor for an emergency contact....lap dr just in case.
