How do you feel after your fills?
hmarko replied to thebandedgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Isn't that backwards? I thought you should sip the water and it should go down in 15 mins... why would you try and make yourself bring it up? I'm interested in this because today was my first fill and I asked them if they can go aggressive. I ended up w/ 5.5 cc's total (had 1.5 already so he put in 4)... well I tried sipping on the little dixie cup of water and in 45 mins i couldn't get thru 2/3 of it due to the pressure in my chest - was that good? I think that was too tight. If i gulped it yea it would have come up. So he took out .8 cc's and I think if I gulped water now it would still come up - when I am drinking the liquids I feel full up top but not the same painful'ish' pressure with the 5.5 cc's. Can you describe the gurgling sounds because the nurse told me about these too. I do 2 days liquid (and if I still can't handle mushies on day 3 another day of liquid and if i STILL can't handle it to call them). Did you feel the way I described above? I had them take some saline out before I left. I'm going back in 3 weeks anyway. If I'm starving between then I'll just call them but I doubt I will be.. who knows  -
Stardustic - interesting to compare notes on both the methods they use and the 'feel'. When he did the first one (before he took some out).. i could not even drink that little dixie cup of Water in 45 mins!! It felt like it did a few times when I ate too fast and the food just sat there - slight pain and pressure. Right now in the evening i have restriction w/ thin shakes but that is supposed to diminish over the next couple of days. Mushies in 2 days but if i still have restriction i am to go back to liquid another day. I doubt I will have restriction on liquids its not too bad right now... so it sounds like the difference is they are more aggressive in my office but because of that no solids either for like 4 days. It could also be cuz i was complaining about gaining and losing the same two lbs over the last 3 weeks and asked them to do what they can to restrict me!

Nawlinzlady - how are you doing the second ticker - i think i figured it out but do you then need to enter your weight two times? Or can you link them up somehow? -
Stardustic - how long did it take you to drink that cup after the restriction?

So here is my fill experience. I basically lost 2 lbs since surgery thats it. I thought i was down to four but those 2 came back... I screwed up my appt I have not seen my surgeon yet last time they didn't book me with her (post op) and this time for the first fill it was supposed to be with her but i thought it was today and they had me for tomorrow and I could not take the time from work tomorrow ( I had to clear my calendar). So I saw the nurse who I have heard great things about too. SOOO i went in complaining about eating too much and asked if he can go aggressive and he says believe me if it is too aggressive you won't be happy. He takes out what was in there which was 1.5 cc's... then he puts in 5.5 cc's which I figured YAY aggressive. Then he says go outside and drink some Water and make sure it is not coming up (should take 15 mins for this little dixie cup)... WELL I am sipping it slowly and feel quite a bit of pressure in my chest to the point where in 45 mins I am 2/3 of the way done (I'm sure if I drank it in the 15 mins it would have come back up). So I got back up and I said I don't know how this is supposed to feel but I think I am too tight. So another one of the nurses took out .8 cc's so now I am at 4.7cc's. I NEED to be on liquids right now. I am drinking a coffee and sipping it and I can see it taking a half hour to an hour for 12 oz. So I'm happy to see my dr's office works hard to get you to that spot fairly quickly. Does everyone else do the water test and what do they tell you to look for? They squeezed me in to accomodate me so he told me how it should feel (ie not spitting up; or gurgling) but the pressure seemed too much. Soon as he took the .8 cc's out felt much better.

Anyone Else Dealing with Chronic Shoulder Pain?
hmarko replied to Dana36's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
mine went away after a week - have you been doing the walking?? Are you having gas pains? Though this is external gas pains I'm not sure if Gas x would work. -
Correction - I am taking back what I said about the eggplant and tzatziki... why??? because to get the protein you need a good amt of yogurt and now I really reek!!! Thankfully no work today. That stuff can only be used lightly!

Stupid question regarding "one cup of food"
hmarko replied to AggiePaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry but that is pretty funny and I wondered the same thing!!! Would love to hear any answers. For me as I am not filled yet I can eat more than a cup and I can eat again in an hour sometimes depends! -
Here is what I am going to make - (adding cucumbers, garlic and dill to the yogurt).. then I'm going to bake eggplants (coat w/ cooking spray) and spoon the yogurt on top. Tzatziki - Yogurt Cucumber Garlic Dip Recipe - Quick and Easy Traditional Tzatziki - Tsatsiki Greek food

YES i think we ALL had that problem. But add the exercise it helps. keep writing down the weight and then go back to 2 weeks ago after you have started food and hopefully then you wil have lost 2-4 lbs (we are supposed to be losing 1-2 lbs a week). Anyway same thing here. But people keep telling me I lost more weight and its been very marginal up and down the same two lbs. But I may be 3-5 lbs lower than when I started mushies (ps I did gain 2.5 lbs when I went to mushies). So that did become the new starting point because realistically something was going to come on in just water weight after that liquid craziness. Go exercise you will feel great after - your outlook will be better, your head will be better. It helps so many things! I am so happy to be back in the gym again.. and I walk a lot now too. -
Hi today I did more - 20 mins. yesterday only my glutes hurt today I think my abs and back will be sore a bit. I tried to sit the trot today it was harder than yesterday prob cuz my muscles are weaker today and this is a big moving warmblood (could sit his trot before) - Probably in a couple of weeks more w /no stirrups will fix that. Didn't canter yet (I won't canter if I am not sitting the trot though it is probably easier) - that too I'm waiting to do at the 6 week mark. My trainer's daughter who also has worked with me said when was the last time you rode... I said " the last time you taught me (that was 2 months ago)... aside for 10 mins yesterday".. She repeated "THAT was the last time you rode"? For all of us it went better than expected. BUT having said that - did you ever take a break from riding and go back to it and you do great but THEN the following week it all goes to hell?

Yea just be careful especially with rice. I have been ravenous lately and yesterday there is this famous 'food cart' chicken, lamb and rice and i decided to try it. First of all no great shakes... but I took 3 fast bites cuz i was starving didn't eat much all day.. and I get the stuck thing going on - and almost had the saliva coming up.. but it went down. I think if I took smaller bites and did not eat fast this would not have happened but when we get fills this can happen jst with those types of foods from what I read. -

Dee - my clothes are very loose on me and before they were very tight because I refused to get more heavier clothes. Some of this weight came on very recently in April when my young horse died (I delivered him as I own his mother); and raised him from birth. I'm single no kids so that was like my baby. Very heartbreaking for me. And he was young not even 4. There is one suit i can def be rid of. The rest of the things I own are riding pants which i've been squeezing into... and jeans which are falling on me but my next size down is 2 sizes that I own  Still not buying clothes yet. Maybe I should though. I did only buy myself 2 pairs of riding pants and I ordered them smaller because they are very expensive at over 200 each. -

YAY!!! congrats!!! thats awesome! -
I don't think I had enough time to enjoy it - it did feel good but it was all so rushed! It was like a warmup! I literally jumped on him after my trainer rode him... trotted 10 mins maybe a bit longer and stopped. And honestly I was worried about him cuz he is being rehabbed he was off 4 months - and I think I was more worried about not doing too much w/ him (as I didn't know how long my trainer was on him). Plus he is my trainer's horse and he doesn't let anyone on him now, so I was afraid of breaking him. I was the last one on him before he went lame back in April, my baby died and this horse who I was going to lease went out of commission at the same time. So honestly I think I was just worried. OMG this abscess has been a total nightmare it all started in mid july - she already got some time off then and then it became a HUGE deal - she was non weight bearing. Vet drained it and she was still hobbling at the walk. Put back shoes (she was fine w/o them from Feb to May) then all the rains messed her up. She has been on bute since Mid August and layed up completely since then (she is in turnout) but vet doesn't want her running. So if she starts running she comes b ack in. Vet told me it could take 2-3 months longer so that would put it at about 4-5 months! My farrier said it looks like it was traveling around for a long while and it undermined her hoof and now she practically has no sole. I've been thinking of retiring this horse and getting another since my young one died (he was supposed to be my next riding horse)... but I am not convinced my mare is done yet.

we need to remember it takes 6 weeks to build a new habit. Hey I rode a horse today for 10 mins only posting trot (ie. not as much abs as sitting trot). Mine is still out of commission and this guy too is being rehabbed but we can all recover together. -
Hey guys - So I had to share with my horsie friends - today (4 weeks post op) I trotted for 15 mins posting - I sat the trot once around the arena. If no pain later then will try more sit trot. Feel ok - didn't feel my port moving around. My trainer let me ride his horse who is also being rehabbed. And my horse is ALSO a patient and out of commission (no work at all) she had an abscess (if you guys remember she was on and off lame) well BAD abscess undermined her hoof so she has now been off for two months. and today was the first time I sat on a horse in two months 23 lbs lighter! I'm back to weight I was between last year to 1.5 years ago. 10 more lbs and I am back to weight from 2 years ago! Will ride trainer's horse tomorrow - my horse could be out for 2 weeks to 2 more months.

Hi - anytime a thought comes into my mind to eat anything like chocolate or fried anything - I immediately don't entertain it and think about all we have gone thru to be here. I think that if i have that 'food' i will open a can of worms and not support my new good habits. Its like smoking - you need to be cold turkey. At least that is what I make myself think. I know that I will make exceptions here and there but that is what it is an exception. So its been since august 28th that I started preop and the only thing i did have once has been to eat a small piece of cake for someone's birthday just last week. -
I figured that was the answer - I am having wishful thinking! What form of eggs? Scrambled giving you trouble too? You probably shouldn't be eating mushies yet should you? I had to wait 10 days. You are likely swollen and with time that will get down and you can have the mushies no problems. Did the eggplant have seeds and skin? Give it time. Trust me I am at 4 weeks post op and 2 weeks post op the restriction you feel is much more than 4 weeks post op!! I am getting a fill in a few days.

Question for you all who have problems with certain foods.. wondering if I have no problem now (no fills yet) does that mean I may have a problem later? I'm thinking the answer is yes???
-
sorry but I disagree - this isn't brain surgery but it is surgery which requires general anesthesia, intubating etc. Don't minimize it - I know of someone personally who ended up in a coma for two months from this surgery (not where I went but somewhere else). Which was why I picked a place that has done nearly 10,000 surgeries between all the doctors in the practice and has excellent aftercare. The aftercare is critical to the success.

Congrats everyone on the weight loss its great that we are in this together! I'm crawling down but working out every day 3 mile walk and 30 mins elliptical trainer. Gen how did the abs go? No pain whatsover? Remember I was having the pain on the elliptical at week two - it wasn't totally gone last week at week 3 but now I can say it is. But honestly I still haven't hit the intensity I was at 2 weeks ago. But I'm upping it more and more each day. I am going to try and ride my trainer's horse (mine is out of commission) this weekend. Just a little for 10-15 mins - riding uses a lot of abs - core in general and boy does my back hurt since i have stopped! I really can't wait to get filled i am hungry and really more at night. -
I'm not restricted yet just 4 weeks post op (next week is my fill) - but I was able to eat filet mignon. I did get almost stuck w/ a chicken burger patty. It just wouldn't go down and i had some discomfort but then it went down in 20 mins finally no sliming.
