yozimm replied to Mamarotten's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

What was the cause of your SLIPPAGE?

Had my surgery to fix my "slipped band." Low and behold it was a hiatal hernia.....due to my pregnancy. 6 days post op and way better already. -
So, I was banded 7/2008, got pregnant in 8/08. Didn't "use" band until my daughter was born, so first fill was in May 09. In November 09 started having bad symptoms - food coming out onto pillow when I slept at night. So, I guess you'd say severe regurgitation. I thought it was just part of being banded. Well needless to say I let my symptoms go and go and finally went in to see my doctor in March, he took some fluid out of the band, went back again in April and he took some more fluid out of the band, had an upper GI, scheduled a band revision for yesterday and low and behold I HAD A HIATAL HERNIA......please if you have any wierd symptoms like I did go and see your doctor don't wait. Ugg...

So, I was banded 7/08 for my 40th bday present to myself. Got pregnant 8/08...miracle, she's beautiful. Started fills in May 2009 after daughter born. Stopped losing weight in November 2009, found out in May 2009 band slipped probably during pregnancy. I had a ton of other bad symptoms which prompted my doctor to do more tests, etc. MY QUESTION: How do I prepare for the next surgery, what should I expect, will I lose some weight now, finally? My visit with my surgeon is 6/8, he'll probably answer all these questions, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has gone through this before. Thanks, Y:blink:

I'd say the worst of my symptoms are regurgitation. Basically if I'd eat anything say three hours or less prior to going to bed the food would literally come back up. I had some episodes of waking up with whole food pieces on my pillow. The worst part was that the acid would also go down my wind pipes causing me to wake up coughing. Not to mention the sore throat I would wake up with.....soooo glad to be having my surgery next Tuesday. Went to preop appointment today.

My surgeon feels that my band slipped during my pregnancy. I'm having it fixed 6/15. I do have a lot of symptoms but most discouraging is no weight loss since November, 2009. But at least no weight gain either. I'm still 100% sold on the Lap Band, but it's a journey and you need to be ready for anything. -
So, I had my first fill in May 2009. I'm not sure what my cc's are at this point. I think I've had a total of 4 or 5 fills, last one being September 2009. Since then I've lost about 40 pounds and a lot of body fat. For about 3 months now, I've been regurgitating food at night when I sleep. After reading some posts on what people eat on a daily basis, I realized I was eating way too much. Since then I've been trying not to eat very much at night and my symptoms have improved a bit. However, I'm concerned with the amount of food I can eat in comparison to what people are posting they eat on a daily basis. For example today I had a bowl of cherrios - didn't measure, snack Protein shake, lunch half a tuna melt with half the bread, bowl of Soup (probably 3 cups), twix bar for a snack and tonight I had a half a cup of homemade mac and cheese. Right now I'm waiting for the waxy burps to go away before I go to bed. I'll probably still drink some mylanta before I lay down. Any thoughts?

I went to my surgeon/fill doctor on 3/25. He said I was a bad girl and should have come to him as soon as I noticed my symptoms. They were not normal and he took out some of the fluid. He said he barely had to retract the needle as the excess fluid was basically pushing itself out. In the meantime I fill like I have no restriction at all. He wants to see me in 1 month after my 3/25 appointment. I wasn't losing when my band was too tight, now I wonder how I'll do. He said I would be able to make better food choices when my band isn't so tight. Anyone ever have this happen to them?

I've made an appointment to see my doctor. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the advice and thoughts. Yvonne:redface:

Thank You! -
I was banded July 9, 2008. I was told 3 years prior I was premenapausal and would not have kids. At that time I had no kids. In early August of 2008 I found out I was pregnant. I had one fill by then and went back to have all saline removed during my pregnancy. I had absolutely no problems with my band and my pregnancy. I have a beautiful girl, Zoey who was born on 4/13. I had my first fill in May, then June and again last week in August.
