Atv, Yes you will lose weight. Check out the thread for bigger BMI'S. To get you healthy you will have to drink your 64 oz, 30 minutes of walking each day along with your band. At 260lbs last June 06 it would take me 35 minutes to walk one mile. Your band will not do it all. Exercise is the key to my success. You don't have to go fast just move at a pace you are comfortable at. good luck edie -
Krissy, 20 lbs is wonderful. You feel like you really CAN do it now . I remember feeling sucessfull after just surgery. I had to remind myself , oh yeah I still have to lose the WEIGHT. tee hee. It has been such a wonderful trip for me. I do miss the quantity of food but boy oh boy does these 14 jeans feel good. Good luck and remember walk, walk and walk. edie

I am on my 5th plateau . Oh well. Anyone else had so many plateaus? It has been 2 weeks. edie

I always like Dr Phil's motivation of making yourself accountable . His hint was don't allow yourself to watch tv until you get your exercise done. It really helped motivate me way back in June of 06. Now I swear it is like brushing my teeth . I look for ways to burn extra calories during the day. Who would of thunk it? Changed woman, edie

Newbie here...Is it really worth it?

I think with water intake and exercise along with his band his chances are good. You have to weigh his chance of a stroke against this surgery complications. good luck edie -
I remember how tasty wood started looking to me. Hang in there I promise it gets better. You know food is OUR weakness. Be strong. edie

When I became nervous about eating too much. I started counting calories. I just took control and I felt alot better. When I had reached my quota for the day I would eat sf popsicles to fill my "mind" . I had my first fill and did it make a difference. I thought I had my little stomach before fill I was wrong. edie

Almost 2 weeks since surgery.
edieparks replied to redstrat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aren't you and I lucky to be in the "hardly any pain" club of bandsters? I still eat llots of soup at six months. My doctor sort of frowned and wants me to eat more stick to the ribs food. I love my soup though! I feel like at 2 weeks out you are making great choices. I was eating about 2 sf popsicles a day too (40 calories). My favorite is banana still. Keep up the good work. Remember help your band with exercise . I waited 1 week to start walking slowly. I still never exercise fast . edie -
Where does "can't eat this after surgery" info come from?
edieparks posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm checking the new posts tonight and I see , "is it true I won't be able to eat pizza after band". Is is true no more gum? Did I miss some reading when I did my research? Is there doctors that give this advice? Is this advice coming from naysayers against WLS? wsup? edie -
I think you should try the free fitday.com. edie

Thats exactly why I would never consider gastric and welcomed Lap band into my life. Along with exercise , the band has changed me to a "normal" size person from being the big woman . It feels good. edie

Grab hold of something, it is going to be a wonderful ride. edie -
T.O.M. My mothers new home is listed under nursing homes in phone book. They just have policy you have to walk in (she used her cane) and not be in a chair or on a scooter for them to accept you. She is the youngest one there. 70s and 80s and 90s is the norm. Once you are there it is your home for the rest of your life . There is a infirmary if the need arises. There are two reasons they will make you move. You need medical equipment they cannot provide and if you go mental and it cannot be helped with meds. It was in the contract mom had to sign. She really liked the idea of it being her last home . She can settle in I guess. My only point is I just wanted to say there are maybe (?) a few good homes out there. I can tell the nurses are busy but they seem really happy and not overwhelmed . Maybe the nuns are good bosses? The nuns and priests in this area retire there too. There is a separate building for priests The nuns have there own private wing and gardens. Amen! In my phone book there are 26 more listing for nursing homes. Makes me think about your posting. FYI My mom says all the AWFUL crap about the priests and children is a favorite subject Catholic residents there . They know they are guilty and ashamed . edie Mom changed from Baptist to Catholic since she moved in May of 06. Woe is me I am an Atheist . Hate to lie on my application if the need ever arises. Tee hee.

You are so cool Carol. I can only say at six months I can share a plate at any restaurant. So the inconvenience will not be forever. Hope you get lots of helpful hints. edie (past rice burner rider)

It is so REAL for the two of you now. Remember after a week , start out with short walks (15 minutes) . I have helped my band with exercise and I feel so good now. Just last night I was what is that? Oh my ribs. LOL Six months after surgery is so different. It's wonderful. I can eat at any restaurant (share plates). Booked a 25 year anniversary trip for September and I'm gonna be in skinny clothes!!!! edie

Do the band dance. That must be some really good news to be getting. How do you even think of anything to compare to that news? I love how easy it is to bend over now. I think about adding weights to my person at the gym that totals 90 lbs and how in the world would I carry it and how did I carry it? Welcome to your band adventure. your sooner to be band sister, edie

I know you want to get this show on the road. Mine happened so fast I kind of went into it like I was getting on a really big roller coaster and not totally sure I wanted to ride it. I am self pay (paying lol). Sorry this is happening to you. I can imagine how I would feel in your place. Not good. Try to enjoy not having a debt ? Thats the only positive I can think of. edie

Just to add something positive, my Mom put herself in a wonderful Home May of 06. I asked her if she was sure. She says yes, you have to "walk in on your own" to get into this home and I want to live THERE . It is run by nuns and she is so happy. My mom is only 67 . I consider myself lucky. I am a only child and never had to make "that decision". I agree that good homes are few and inbetween. Everyone is usually over worked or not the least bit interested and underpaid. edie
