Up 2lbs!!! - is this usual?!
edieparks replied to jammy117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wished someone would have taken my home scales from me. edie -
Good for you Laurend, I always find your posts interesting . I can't wait to hear about your reactions to getting healthier. Best wishes, edie

Kari, A size 14 is great. Are you passing your big clothes on? My bigger freinds really appreciated it. I see them in my old clothes now and think ... wow I used to wear that. Keep up the good work, edie

I just can't shake it...
edieparks replied to deb24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wish I could help you. I would talk you into taking a short slow walk with me. I would take you to the local library and we could look at magazines together. Sometimes our life tests us. I postponed my surgery so I could go on vacation. I didn't want to be banded on vacation. I wish now I would have gone ahead with it. I didn't know any better. Best wishes for a quick date, edie -
I haven't had any problem. I really thought I would. If it is a buffet style , I just get a SMALL amount of anything I want and just pick around on it. If it is a meal (like a luncheon I recently went to) I just pick around on it. No one really comments because they are too busy eating. As long as you have food on your plate ...... Now at first when I was banded that was different. I just had on my plate what I could eat. I probably could have put some more on it and it would have not been so noticeable . I could have put some salad or maybe something I really didn't care for. I know this sound wasteful and all those starving children.... One more point I want to make. Your cravings and desire for food changes. I remember the first family dinner I had to go to very soon after getting banded (I'm guessing 3 wks after). I whined to my hubby. How could I go with all that good food. I didn't want to go and told him so. He says well if you eat and get full what is the problem? He was so right. In the first months I did find myself looking pretty hard at food in social situations but now I look at it , get some (band size of course) if I want it and then I swear I dont give it another thought. I love my new relationship with food. I enjoy social situations so much more now. I guess before food bugged me and I would also have in the back of my mind that people with me sure knew why I was so heavy . Like when I worked in a office I would eat 2 doughnuts instead of one like others for example. Hope this helps , edie

I CAN eat rice, pasta and crusty part or toasted bread with no problems. Not a huge amount of course. edie

The growling for me did end up stopping. I was always confused. I always wondered if it was my big stomach or my little stomach? edie

Beachgirl, I could walk for 30 minutes or swim ( slowly for both) before I was banded. At the end of my losing I was slow walking 4 to 6 miles a day. About 2 hours. I would put my Ipod and enjoy music or audio books and just get lost in them. I usually could get my liquids in each day. I wonder if you should make SURE you get your 1000 to 1100 calories each day. No less. I wonder about that starvation mode in your case. 60 lbs is not a FAILURE. edie

Up 2lbs!!! - is this usual?!
edieparks replied to jammy117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JaMMY, It happened to me. It was so hard!!! I was trying so hard to stick to the guidelines . You sound like you do understand what is going on with your body so I won't go into it . It still doesn't make it any easier. This is what I would do if I was up a few lbs. I would deny deny DENY in my mine. I kept it to myself. I would claim (if anyone asked) my low weight. I would stay off the scales for 3 to 4 days and when I got back on I would be the low weight or lower. I would white lie (lol) because I didn't want to hear ANYTHING negative. I also had 5 plateaus in my 8 month journey. One lasted a whole month. Those still were not as hard as a gain for me. I feel your pain. edie -
Hello Everyone, I have been at goal 3 months. Pm if I can help anyone. edie

I had depression . I was depressed about the volume of food I could not eat ever again. When I bought my pair of 18 jeans the depression just went away ...Ha ha edie

Now I "medicate" with activity. Visiting neighbors , friends , shopping (oops) , exercise , cleaning , etc. I used to think I should go see... but never did. good luck edie

Yes your doctor is throwing up a life line. I am so glad you have your financing lined up. I am a self pay too. I went to the seminar in May and had surgery in July 06. I started exercising about 6 weeks before surgery. I could only go 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. I felt stupid and very noticeable but I felt at least I am trying. good luck, edie

I have pretty much lost my appetite too. I know exactly what you mean about something sounding good, looking good and smelling good but when it comes down to eating it ... blah. I would try some different protein drinks. I like carnation instant breakfast. On this site there are hints to add fruit, peanut butter ...My pantry is full of stuff I have bought to entice me. I am just trying to eat what I have . I am worried about you gagging. I never had that problem. I wonder if you should try the very (and I mean small) small meals about every 2 hours program? edie

How long did it take for you to reach goal?
edieparks replied to J2mommi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
J2, Yes I always put protein first. I do like my protein bars. edie -
Yes it makes you very aware. The heartburn is awful. I would get it from eating too much or too fast. edie

My gym buddy (new friend as of july 06) lives with an illegal alien . What blew my mind is he has a tax id number , pays taxes and even files taxes and gets a refund. WTF? edie

How did people take it?
edieparks replied to puzleves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would feel like she really cares about me. I would think you two will have to agee to disagree on this one. When you are slim and healthy she will come around. edie -
I began exercising about 6 weeks before surgery. I could only walk very slowly at first. 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. My knees would hurt . One day I would swim slowly for about 30 minutes. Next day walk. This is my suggestion to you. edie

There are really clever people in here. I just wonder about them sometimes. Always enjoy. I am loosing up. That kitty litter cake was over the top . I don't think I could eat it. Well maybe I could. edie

the NEW you and OLD Drivers Licenses?
edieparks replied to OhioChick1982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I happened to reach my goal in the same month I needed my new drivers licence. AlL I can say is for the first time I really like my picture and I look happy in it. I always hated pictures before. edie -
Ryan, I agree with the above posters. I had 5 plateaus in my 8 months. One lasted a month. My person that is assigned to me at the gym told me to exercise harder to get past a plateau. She suggested walking a little faster. Then go back to my normal pace. I would walk a faster lap then 2 at regular pace. Good luck, edie
