    Life without tomatoes

I am 8 weeks out today and have had tomatoes with no problem. I love them. The doctor never mentioned not to have them???
  2. After a dreaded stall for a week the weight is coming off!! I weighed on at 201 today!! I am going to cry like a baby when I am under 200!! Headed to the gym now!

    Stalling Already :(

:rolleyes:I had a stall at 3 weeks then again at 7 weeks then I started losing fast again. Be sure to get your protein and water in!
  4. My doctor told me that stitching is closed actually increases your chance of infection in the area and that they would closes on its own. I was amazed that in a couple days that it closed and scabbed over.

    Will I look OLD?

EVERY person I have seen have lost weight look YEARS younger. Go on obesity help and look on those before/after pictures on the home page. Weight adds age to you.
  6. You are right....something IS missing..you are no longer engaging in behaviors that are HURTING you. You have to seek out help from a support group. You are tackling 2 very hard areas at once. You need to get a new hobby and get some books to read that help you to realize that you are doing this because you love yourself. Perhaps you can begin a journal that states your negative feellings then states ALL the benefits of quitting smoking and having WLS. Perhaps even you could chew some sugarless gum when you are feeling you need "something" during that bored time. You can do this. This isn't an easy process but it's sure worth it. Long term health and self esteem is your goal Keep up the great work and stay strong. It will get better
  7. I hate to say this but the problem is not you in-laws....It's your HUSBAND!!! He allows them to get into your business by even engaging is these conversations. When they bring up your personal finances, he should politely interupt them and say, "i'm sorry ...my wife and my financial business is private," If he did that ...it would be a NON issue. Your husband is feeding into this rudeness and intrusion!! They don't need to know about what you make, what you spend your money on....He needs to cut the apron string.. It's time you sit down with your hubby and have a serious conversation.
  8. Do yourself a favor and don't get on the scale. IV fluids make you gain. Concentrate on healing and nuturing yourself. You have been through a lot and don't need to be hard on yourself. That comment was insensitive and unprofessional. It's not like you were at freaking Burger King!!!!!!! YOU WILL DO GREAT!!
  9. I was on clear liquids but I made sure i got my protein in because if I didn't , I had NO energy!! I used Unjury chicken noodle soup and Proasis Protein shots. They have 25 grams of protein in a 2.9 oz bottle.
  10. I was told not to count calories as well. I use an iPhone app to log my food and It does the calories for me. I more use it to be sure I get enough protein in. But I have to say, I always seem to eat between 800 and 900 calories a day per average. Journaling is the most imporant thing you can do to keep on track. Studies show it!

WTF did I do to myself?

(((hugs))))) The first couple days are the worst and it will get better. I promise!! I felt EXACTLY the same way.... Keep telling yourself that this is temporary and your goal is to feel 50% better than the day before. I did that and it helped. Know that the anestesia and pain meds mess with your moods too!! Walk to get out that gas and just breath. If need to listen to calm music and sit propped up in a chair or bed. Also, just take some Flintstone Vitamins. I have taken them for the past 7 weeks. Don't subject yourself to any more inconvenience! My doctor even tells patients to take them. FYI --- by a week out its MUCH BETTER by 2 weeks out you can almost feel like yourself by 4 weeks out I was sledding down a huge snowcovered hill with my sons!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS....JUST KEEP FOCUSED...BREATHE...AND NUTURE YOURSELF

    VGS problems

I had tremendous problems with my Band and after a full slip had emergency surgery to remove it. I waited a year (and gained 40 pound) and then had the sleeve surgery. I was scared to death, to be honest with you. But I am now almost 8 weeks out and have had NO complications. I haven't vomited ONCE!!! NO reflux, just minor in the beginning! The recovery was much more involved but this is a much more normal way of life. I eat small portions and get full quickly. I don't have to feel that HORRID pain of food getting stuck. No one can understand that pain unless they have lived through it!! I had a LOT of therapy in the year between procedures and I do not regret my decision. Any by the WAY...I have lost the 40 pounds I have gained back already!!! (only 7 1/2 weeks). Do your research and find the BEST doctor in your area. I did and it made all the difference!!!
  14. :blink:Wow! That's a lot of vitamins! I only take 1 flintstones chewable a day! My doctor didn't say I needed all that stuff!

    53 day stall

Are you tracking everything you are eating?? Maybe you should visit a nutriionist? Good Luck! Be sure to switch up your foods!
  16. 7 Weeks out and 41 pounds down!! I am so excited. I had a 4 day stall this week and finally lost a pound. I still am working on not eating too fast. I still tend to get gas bubbles too. I got rid of sooo many clothes this week. Few more pounds until ONEderland!

  17. Funny I had the opposite! I could not drink plain water, it hurt my stomach! I am now 7 weeks out and can drink water with no problem. YES it's temporary! Drink what feels good. I did better with room temperature liquids. Good Luck!!!!
  18. I didn't go to the bathroom 2 weeks post op. I was afraid to take anything so I just let nature take its course. But I use miralax and have had no problems with it.
  19. My only regret was getting the LapBand first I am losing weight and this is a much more 'normal' lifestyle than the band was. They just had on ABC news that 99% of people with band have complications!!! I am 7 weeks out and as of today, have lost 38 pounds. I don't have the love affair with food anymore and the sleeve makes me feel very confident that I can do this! I have had a lot of therapy with food issues and regularly attend support groups. You MUST do this to tackle the reasons why you overeat!! FYI--My 83 year old grandmom had most of her stomach removed over 30 years ago due to an ulcer and her stomach is FINE!
  20. Thighs are supposed to touch!!!???? I can't WAIT for that day, although my knees aren't touching either. Congratulations and as long as the good outweighs the bad we are OKAY
  21. Congratulations!! You look AMAZING! Keep up the great work!

    Anyone on vitamins?

Flinstones Complete Chewable! Available at any WalMart
  23. try to get high protein food like granola, nuts, dairy products into your food. I also love edamame (soybeans). They are high in protein and a nice snack.
  24. :)My doctor said having this surgery is like hitting the "control, alt, delete" button on yourself. You have to take it easy, let yourself heal, and re-learn how to eat. If you are feeling okay and don't have a really physical job, maybe a week but that is totally stretching it. I took off 4 weeks and I'm glad I did because it took so much time, and effort to eat, there is no way I could have focused on work. Good Luck

    2 days post-op

The first couple days you may only get in about 2 oz an hour. Then you should increase to 6 to 8 oz an hour, no more than that. I used a small shot glass and just kept sipping. Warm chicken broth seems to sit well. I used the Unjury kind with protein. Very important to keep hydrated. I wrote down every 2oz I could get down so I could keep track of it. Good luck and before you know it, this will be in the past. The first few days are rough but not impossible. Take care of yourself.
