I think you just came in contact with some germs. I haven't even had ONE headache since surgery. It's amazing.

This question is for sleevers that was 230 to 240 pre-sleeve
NJMOMof2 replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 245 the day of surgery and 8 weeks out was 199!!!! -
You know you've been sleeved when.....

...after you have finished your meal at a restaurant (and there is a full plate left) ..the waitress asks "Was everything okay with your meal?" LOL -
Since surgery I have never chewed MORE gum. It helps with cravings and aids in digestion. Chewing gum really helps me when I have "head hunger." It may not work for everyone but works for me. I have never gotten gas or anything from it and I don't have reflux either.

WINE....when and how much
NJMOMof2 replied to 2bslimkim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love wine and couldn't wait to have my first glass! I waited until 9 weeks post of and it was like heaven! LOL -
Does anyone ever feel like we took the "easy way" out?
NJMOMof2 replied to Brian66's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
This surgery was NO JOKE!!!!! It was a tough recovery and so much to learn to do. You have to do the same thing that every other person does. The only difference it that you get full quick and stay full longer. You have to work JUST AS HARD as other people who have not had surgery. You have to steer clear of foods and exercise!! We got this surgery because we took getting healthy seriously....seriously enought to dissect parts of our stomach and go through surgery! Don't make light of your brave choice. -
My stomach is probably in some dumpster somewhere but I do have nice pictures of my new, cuter stomach with adorable little staples!!! TRUE STORY: in high school my teacher had a hysterectomy and brought her ovarys complete with huge fibroid cysts in to show the class. She was a biology teacher...LOL

Weight training (abs) after surgery
NJMOMof2 replied to lash44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work with a trainer and did killer ab work starting 5 weeks out. My doctor okayed spinning after 4 weeks. (I also took my kids sledding 4 weeks out). I was allowed to go on a treadmill after 2 but I wasn't up to it yet. I am 9 weeks out and my trainer works me so hard, I can't laugh without pain!!! LOL----no pain---no gain. -
can't seem to eat without distress today......help!
NJMOMof2 replied to libaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hoping that the toast didn't get stuck somewhere. I have heard that happening. Call your doctor tomorrow and see if you can get an upper GI, I have heard on threads that pieces of food get stuck in the esophagus and it feels terrible. Good Luck -
I am also a believer of setting hard goals...Mine was 20 pounds a month for the first 2 month and I reached my goal. Keep working it girl! You are doing a great job!

can't seem to eat without distress today......help!
NJMOMof2 replied to libaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 9 weeks out and there is no way I could get that much food down....and I haven't tried toast yet. Did you take tiny bites and eat slow?? Paying attention to your body signals is very hard to learn. I don't know if in the past you have gotten that much food down but be sure to take a bite, chew, think, chew, then take another bite. Unless it's cereal, I can only get down about 3/4 cup of food. Good Luck and feel better...this sure is a learning experience! -
Another disappointed bandster
NJMOMof2 replied to Jennet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As a former LapBand person, I truly know the pain involved with getting food stuck! BE sure you get an upper GI. After I had a severe stuck episode and removal of my fluid I had a FULL slip. My entire stomach slipped through the band and it clamped off the bottom of my stomach. There is no words to describe the pain that was. I had the band emergency removed then the gastric sleeve a little over a year later. And I gained the 50lbs I lost back. From experience I can tell you that the sleeve is a more involved recovery but a MUCH NORMAL way of living. I just eat less. Look into the revision and fight it if necessary. Age should have nothing to do with it. Good Luck -
Today I made it to onederland!!!!!
NJMOMof2 replied to Lose140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is such an important milestone!!! Good for you! -
I had the Mirena 2 years before surgery and barely got a period. Right after I was sleeved I got my period BAD for about 2 weeks. I think it was just my body thrown into shock by the surgery and meds. I am fine now.

How long were you in the hospital?
NJMOMof2 replied to sychadelic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor had me scheduled to stay 2 nights and I asked to be discharged the next day which he agrees to. I hate being in the hospital!!! Feels like prison to me. -
Old habits are trying to come back!!!!
NJMOMof2 replied to Deedle Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was happening to me and I increased my fluid intake. I also changed my food times around. I have my coffee in the am and wait until I get to work to have my cereal. I then started having a yogurt for lunch. Since I changed my food times, I found I am not getting hungry, ( and yes..I had real hunger too). Be sure to get your 2 cups of milk in a day, it helps with hunger too. -
Weight Statistics - tracking
NJMOMof2 replied to InProgress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the fat secret app for my iphone! I love it! I can scan the barcodes from the food I eat and it enters the nutritional information. All I have to do it adjust the serving size. Good Luck -
ONDERLAND!!! I had my surgery exactly 2 months ago. I weighed 245. Today I weighed in at 199.8!! I'll take it!!!!

I brought this up with my doctor at the monthly support group. He said that the hair will fall out if you don't eat enough protein because you hair uses protein to grow but if you don't consume enough, the body sends it to the muscles work. He also said there is no scientific evidence that biotin works. My sister in law had RNY and her hair thinned out and now had regrown back. She had surgery in October 09. Good Luck and get your protein in

Bad breathe and dry mouth, what to do?
NJMOMof2 replied to papi chulo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Plain Water didn't sit well with me until about 5 weeks out. Try flavored water, crystal light, or diet tea. That should help you get your fluids in and improve your breath. -
I slept propped up in a recliner the first couple nights then propped up in bed until the drain came out.

A week post-op and I can eat a lot...
NJMOMof2 replied to EvRev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! You should be on clear liquids at this phase. You are at risk for a leak up until 2 weeks post op. The reason for the liquids is that your stomach doesn't have to constrict to digest them. Just my opinion...but your doctor is giving you BAD advice. -
I have no idea what the heck your doctor is having you take but all I took was some Flintstones chewables. As for the "shots" mix ONE ounce at a time with diet decaf tea or lemonade (about 3 oz). It cuts the taste and makes it easier. As the old saying goes....NO pain NO gain. I am 4 weeks out and have lost 42 pounds!!!! The gross crap is temporary and worth a good jump start to your weight loss. Good Luck!
