I was a MESS before surgery and guess what??? I am doing great and it all worked out fine!! Yes, it will be tough in the beginning but that is TEMPORARY!!! I am 11m 1/2 weeks out and I lost 52 POUNDS!!!! That's like a year's worth of weight without the surgery. Relax, Breathe deep and Visualize all the things you will be able to do that your weight prevented you from doing. good luck!!!

I was a HUGE drinker with meals too and just like anything in life...you will get used to it. I don't eat 1/2 hour before or after a meal and I am very used to it. To be successful you have to follow the rules. Sipping when you need it, like Tiff says is okay but the idea to this it to fill your cute little stomach with good food and allow it time to digest so you won't get hungry. If I can do it, anyone can

Almost in tears...
NJMOMof2 replied to Can'tweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give yourself time and be careful!!! You are at risk for a leak until 2 weeks after the surgery! The surgery, pain meds play games with your mood so you have to keep yourself calm. You should find a support group in your area. I had therapy for a full year to deal with my food issues before I was ready for the sleeve surgery. Also, at your stage they said to consume no more than 6oz of Fluid an hour. Measure your foods and be good to yourself You will get through it. -
My doctors office gives up a paper that has portions and it give you an idea of what your plate should look like. It's the size of a salad plate, which I eat off of every day now. If you message me, I can email it to you...

Don't beat yourself up. I am going to say what no other person said...your surgeon in a CREEP!!! There is not hard fact evidence of the liver shrinking...NONE..Just a belief. My doctor doesn't even require a pre-op diet for this reason and he is a very cautious doctor. just no large meals 3 days before surgery. I am sorry you had to go through this horrific experience. I can imagine the planning and mental preparation you had to go through. Don't beat yourself up, folloow the plans and get your surgery. I am speechless at your story.

Today marks 11 week since my surgery on January 3rd and I hit the 50 pound mark today!!! I can honestly say that I didn't start "loving" my sleeve until a couple weeks ago. I struggled with the feelings of "what the hell did I do to myself?" to being frustrated because going out to dinner meant taking a few bites and then being full. I worked through all those feelings and have been working out like crazy (spinning). I had to buy some tops because I had none!! I fit easily into an XL at Old Navy!! I don't usually shop there but I had a coupon and there is no way I am buying good clothes until I reach goal!! So to any of you who may be considering this surgery or newly post-op.....It's not an easy journey but it gets better every day!!!!

OOPS! I forgot I was sleeved!
NJMOMof2 replied to JaspersGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went out to dinner and "forgot" too. I started slurping though a straw, got a huge bubble in my stomach then tried to take a nexium for the gas and threw up into my hand while running to the ladies room...LOL you live and learn.... -
Might have been a bad idea....Lemon???
NJMOMof2 replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that after two weeks, a person has a "zero percent" (his words) chance of a leak. With that being said, I am sure it was just too much acidity from the lemon.....and WOW I could never have eaten a lemon straight!! (even before surgery! LOL Good Luck! -
Restrictions after Band to Sleeve Revision Surgery
NJMOMof2 replied to mandems mom's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My doctor didn't really give me any restrictions. He said not to drive when I'm on pain meds. I have a 5 and 8 year old. My husband took of the first week and that was a big help. By a week out I was feeling much better. To be honest, the first few days home all I did was wander around because it was uncomfortable to sit or lay down. After a few days, I only took pain meds a night .. and by a wee, out, I didn't need them. Get help for a week and u will be fine!! -
Getting Worse Instead of Better?
NJMOMof2 replied to wtBgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call the doctors and get a prescription for anti-naseau meds. You don't want to get dehydrated! Take care and I hope it gets better for you!!! -
My band failed me 8 years after having it now opting for sleeve
NJMOMof2 replied to aussiemalcolm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The band was hell for me. I am so glad I have my sleeve. It's a much more normal of life. No horrible food stuck feeling. The recovery is much for involved but it's worth it. -
11 days post-op and, oh, the constipation!!
NJMOMof2 replied to VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Miralax did NOT work for me. The doctor told me to get these pills called "Peri-colace" They worked like a charm! They used to be available only by a RX but now they are over the counter. They are expensive ($18) but worth it. I now be sure I eat pineapple and other fruits that begin with a "P" They all help with constipation. -
Sleeved 3 days ago and feeling terrible.
NJMOMof2 replied to Skinnyagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
IT WILL GET BETTER!!! You have a few more days. Each day you will wake up and feel better. Call you doctor and ask if you can take dilaudid 4mg. They are tiny pills and okay to swallow. I took them around the clock the first few days and just at night the next few days. After the first week, I didn't really need them. I had some pain from teh drain but not too bad. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS!! Your regrets are perfectly natural! ((((((HUGS))))))) -
TMI aunt flow will be here for surgery what did you do
NJMOMof2 replied to justdance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When i had the Lap Band I got my period as well. They didn't allow a tampon. The nurses basically gave me this pad the size of pillow to shove between my legs. For once I was happy I had fat thighs to hold that thing in place. The nurses are so non-chalant about it too! -
