Finally....Restriction - But New Challenges....
meikobobo replied to Mamacita2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everyone is so different with this....I have never felt restriction even though I am up to 8cc. With me restriction comes when I feel like I am going to throw up. I then know I had better stop or I am in trouble. To prevent this I have started to use smaller plates and just try to tell myself to stop as I have had enough. But I really feel I could keep on eating as I think I need more ( I think that its part of the psychological impact) I just dont mentally feel one plate is enough and I think it overrides any physical sensations. Goodluck and all the best. -
Just adding a note to all of the above as it sounded a bit negative as i re read it. I still think it was the best thing for me to do for myself and my family and do not regret it at all

chellz I am from Australia and I really think it is a good idea to have all of the work up that you guys have in the states because I feel it really gives you time to fully understand and appreciate what you are doing because once its done there is not turning back. I didnt really fully understand what i was getting into and how fundementally it would force me to change my relationship with food. I was banded 6 months ago and am still learning how to deal with it. Especially psychologically not having my normal crutch to use when I need to relax, destress, celebrate, grieve or am upset. Best of luck to you and I am sure you will make the right decision for you. Just dont believe anyone who tries to tell you that you are taking the easy way out. It isnt.

I was similiar to Rutiglius and used a pillow on my side squezzed really tight and it was fine but everytime I would change sides I would have to take pillow with me. I still have to use it every now and then especially if I have been doing a lot of exercise. Anyone else have that problem

Should you only eat when you get hungry?
meikobobo replied to ghannouge's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh how I wish I wasnt hungry. I am up to 4 fills and still hungry. However I am scared to get any more fills as last time I couldnt eat anything solid for nearly 2 weeks without vomiting. That has lessened now but I really thought I would have felt restriction by now. Funnything too is in the morning and lunch I seem to be able to eat very little without pb(no matter how much I chew) and have to stop not because i feel full rather i dont want to vomit anymore. However when dinner time comes round I can eat pretty large amounts (normal sized dinner with plenty of room for more and hungry with it. I try to just have lo cal liquids to fill up or if really cant take it a plate of vegetables or some fruit) Needless to say weightloss is not really happening although at least I am not gaining. What worries me is the constant pbs. I am worried that it may damage my osephegus or worse! -
I wouldnt worry 2 much. I was desperate 4 some soild food too so had something similiar to you. I think if you a very high fat meal it might be a problem. I brezzed through surgery and post op and have only had a problem since my 4th fill ( it was too tight but after 4 weeks has settled) Strange though I am not getting the feelings of fullness that they talk about.goodluck to you and best of luck

Hi I am very new to this....I have not told anyone (including husband) that I have been lap banded...told him I was in for hernia. So I have been relying on forums for info and advice. Have never actually posted before but I am having problems which I am not sure are normal. For a start have had over 4 fills and can still eat lots when it comes to things like biscuits, popcorn chips etc. However having real problems with healthy food such as vegetables, fruit and meat even though I chew very throughly. I dont think another fill is the answer as I can even feel water stop as it goes down. Why is it that foods such as biscuits so easily get through and the good healthy stuff doesnt. I have started to just eat the things that are easy as I hate the vomiting and the tightness in the chest that I get with the healthy stuff. As a result and certainly it will come as no surprise I have not lost much weight at all. (Band done in March - weight lost 14 pds most of it in the liquid part of the diet) Any comments gratefully received cheers meikobobo:confused:

dear Jachut This banding experience is an amazing thing. I really thought (I think like everyone else who hasnt been banded) that it would be an easy way out. In someways it does make it easier but in others it is really very hard. I have always enjoyed (too much) healthy foods however with the banding I am finding that I cant eat them (no matter how chewed) and had started frying things because the oil helped things go down easier and they didnt come back up. Also eating things like chocolate and icecream not really my favourite when I really wanted a proper meal but was getting so tired of all the throwing up. So while not gaining because of all the throwing up I was getting worried I would die from a stroke because of the frying. My stop gap measure until I get to the doctor is to go back on optifast (at least its healthy) and I have bought a juicer so I can juice my vegetables and fruit. let you know how it goes and again many thanks for your help

tks I hadnt thought about that. I had assumed that because I was able to eat bulky things like crackers and popcorn the band was not tight enough and urged my doctor to keep filling. I have another appt in 2 weeks and will ask for a reduction

tks for advice I thought that with the surgery i would feel full but still not finding that is happening at all. I am going to concentrate on slowing down

Dear Sue Tks so much for reply...I thought I had damaged my band because I could still eat these things and not others I will follow your advice...and buy that timer. I think I may be eating too fast. Tks again M:smile2:
