Where's your port?!
onenuttynurse replied to sandi_022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port in on the right side and you are right...Doctors decretion -
So i have been researching hair loss in general and came across something very interesting to me. I have been losing my hair which started about 3 years ago. I used to have long luxurious hair and had to cut it all off due to it becoming thin. I was banded on DEC 28th, 2009 and I know it has gotten worse. I use the shampoo, get enough protein, and take my vitamins, but still having hair loss. HAS ANYONE BEEN TAKEN SPIRONALACTONE FOR HAIR LOSS. It has steroid properties which are shown to reduce hair loss. It is a diuretic, but its side effect has been shown to slow down hair loss....Hmmmmm...The hair revive vitamins aren't working and all my tests are coming back NML.....Any thoughts on this......thanks....onenuttynurse:glare:

port pain after running
onenuttynurse replied to heidib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just a regular abd binder should do it for you. I talked to my Doc again yesterday due to the cont port pain with biking. She wasn't concerned and thought the binder was a good idea..Make sure it is nice and tight but breathable...make sure your diaphragm can still move.....Good luck -
Does everyone have hair loss?
onenuttynurse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if everyone is having some degree of hair loss. I get my protein in, take hair vitamins, use nixon, had my blood check and still losing hair...Jeezz. Was banded on Dec 28th, 2009. My weight loss has been slow, so I don't think it is necessarily from losing to much weight? What kind of vitamins are you using. I use hair revive 5.....Suggestions anyone.....:blushing: -
Plateaued but seem to be losing inches
onenuttynurse replied to beachbum112's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally. If you are exercising daily, you definately could be losing inches, but not pounds per se....That is what i am going through too and I love it...My wt loss has been slow, but the inches are melting off..I cycle daily and what a change...i have went from a 2x down to a large and i attribute this to biking as I have only been banded since DEC 18th, 2009 and my weight loss has been slow....onenuttynurse -

I continue to take my hair vitamins which are loaded with biotin, but no change. I am going to look into this....Thanks -
Is this normal?!
onenuttynurse replied to sandi_022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay...first of all it depends on whether it is stool or urine that is coming out. If it is stool, you are fine, if you have urine coming out of front and back, my friend, you best be making a appt for a gyne, because you need a /p repair for a fistula....plain and simple..........onenuttynurse... -
Does everyone have hair loss?
onenuttynurse replied to onenuttynurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was losing hair before the band, so i don't think it is the band causing it as I only have 2cc in my band anyway. Hmmmmm, I read a interesting article on spironalactone stopping hair loss..I am going to look into that. -
port pain after running
onenuttynurse replied to heidib's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a every day biker and since I have been banded, I also pain in my port site about every other day, especially when i am crouching down and accelerating. I mentioned this and they told me its because I don't suck in my stomach muscles and they are vulnerable to the postiion I am in when I am biking...Just a thought. May try a binder if you have one lying around. -
Aftering being banded, how much weight did you loose until the first fill??
onenuttynurse replied to mears06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 18 lbs before my first fill. I did not have a preop diet. It has been by will power that I have done this and a heck of alot of biking.... -
Friend who is a recovering anorexic... need advice
onenuttynurse replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a nurse for many years as well, and I totally agree with what has been said in the above posts. Focus on your journey to becoming healthy. Your friend definately needs to go back into therapy to conquer her own demons. Even though you want to share your success with your close friends or those that want to know, she may not be the best person to do that with. I see this as treading dangerous waters with her. Please forcus on yourself. She needs to find her own way just as you have found yours. Good luck and may the force be with you in your journey to becoming fit and healthy...ps...Congrats on your weight loss.... -
Port placement?
onenuttynurse replied to sappermom1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port is on the lower right side and it is all to do with perference of the doctor and which side they are operating on. Some of them that are well experienced have learned from trial and error. Also she said it dependens on the amt of scar tissue they see when they get in there.....Hope this helps.... -
Self-Fill are you doing this?

Of course she was kidding.................Jeeeezzz..lol -
Left Shoulder Pain
onenuttynurse replied to Jencaldwell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont worry it will dissolve by itself. When they do a laproscopic surgery they use co2 to blow up the stomach to visualize the organs better. Then when they remove it, there is alwasy some gas that gets trapped and no gas x strips don't help..Wrong kind of gas. This is not bowel gas. Everyone gets that mixed up. The co2 gas travels to the highest spot which is ...you guessed it your shoulders....put a heating pad on it,,walk around...be patients..it is painfull but will go away in a few days........... -
Anyone bleeding from one of your incisions post-op?
onenuttynurse replied to buttercups727's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When ever they do any type of surgery, there is always a chance that excess fluid will stay into the tissues due to all the irrigant they use during surgery. They either put in a drain and suck it out, or the body reabsorbs the excess fluid. Now, there are instances where there is a small clot sitting somewhere or a loose stitch that continues to ooze and they end up cauterizing it or adding a stitch again. I am assuming you tried to apply pressure and ice to it. Ice is a vasoconstricture. It is their responsibility to take care of that because if you are oozing, THAT IS A FABULOUS PLACE FOR A NICE POCKET OF INFECTION TO START. THEN MY FRIEND, YOU WILL HAVE A WHOLE NEW SET OF ISSUES....make them take care of it.....changing a dressing 4 times a days is excessive..... -
Why I'm considering a lawsuit...
onenuttynurse replied to rlynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with the lawsuit you will not win. You haven't even tried to work with it, shown any committment to yourself. You obviously did not research it well enough before having this surgery. One last thing, no one commenting on this post should apologize for anything they write, because this post is silly to begin with. Projecting blame when the only one to blame is staring at you in the mirror...You really should have the band taken out and stick with Jenny Craig...Ask your friends in 1 year or 2 how they are doing with the 1 to 3 percent success rate............... -
New to forum, question
onenuttynurse replied to banded3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my...You will know. It is the worst chest or back pain you will feel. You will instantly want to put your fork down.No doubt about you knowing when it happens. Sometime you will start sliming and need to go to the bathroom. It is very painfull at times...Ughhh i hate it but mine passes soon.....i am learning my lesson every day i have the band.... -
I love the band, but I do become concerned with flipped ports, band erosion, or band slippage. Would i do it again, absolutely down right YES. YES YES...
-
Well. I can say from a different perspective. I love the stuff and does wonders for wrinkles. As for the Kidman thing, She's entitled to do with her body what she wishes because frankly...she's not lacking in the looks department as far as beautiful goes. I don't want to age gracefully and therefore I am for the fillers, etc. Thats the great thing about life. You are responsible for your own actions. Juvaderm works wonders for deep wrinkles. I am going in again for botox soon.....and NO i am not obsessed. I don't call going in twice a year obsessed....onenuttynurse

Sketchers Shape-ups
onenuttynurse replied to SusanC is ready's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i wish you the best with them. I bought a pair of them about 2 years ago and gave them away. That was 150 dollars down the drain. Personally myself, I think it is a waste of money. Something new to try. Walking for me does the same. However, I know lots of people that have them, and they aren't sure whether they can tell the difference or not...some have had achilles issues with them. However, good luck and keep us posted..... -
