HELP!!! Post Op Complication and Costs
onenuttynurse replied to Bozav8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh..you are kind of in a tough spot here....Its called a risk as with any surgery. I would wait and see what has happened. Sounds like a hole is present in the band. They will be able to due it under fluro to see if there are any leaks. Its a tough one because you paid out of pocket, unfortunately as with any surgery, there are really no guarantees. Expecially since its been 3 years. Be patient and See if your insurance will cover it. As for hiring a attorney. What are you wanting to sue them for? That would be a tough thing to prove, and do you want to wait possibly 3 years to settle it. Also, they will go though you with a fine tooth comb before they give you a dime, and if they find one thing that she didnt comply with having this band, then its a no go..Believe me, I can attest to that...I wish you the best and maybe it is something very simple that can be fixed.....onenuttynurse -
Slippage and Erosion
onenuttynurse replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you ladies are correct. For every one person that has slippage, there are 100 that have successfull outcomes. its like anything else in life. We seem to be hearing alot about these issues, erosion, slippage, reflux...I do remember signing a paper that said these were possible complications. I love my band even though i have only had it since december...I have lost 40 lbs which i could not do before. If for some reason my band does slip or erode into my fundus(stomach), I can guaranttee you, I will have it replaced in a minute......onenuttynurse -
Exercising - How much? How often? What type?
onenuttynurse replied to breesue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am totally into spinning, and do it 6 days a week, along with 2 to 3 days of wt training. I burn anywhere between 600 and 800 calories in 1 hour of class. I am kind of on the intense side, so the calorie burning is high. I have only 1,8cc in my band, and have restriction and have lost 40 #.....I look way thinner than I really am because the spinning is toning me up so well.................. -
Is this stuff safe??
onenuttynurse replied to x96oun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am fascinated that they gave you torodol to begin with after surgery. Since it is a NSAID, one of the side effects is bleeding as well as renal failure. Now the renal failure rarely happens and i have only seen it once in 20 years. Torodol is used alot for bone pain. Don't see it much for surgical incisonal abdominal discomfort due to the bleeding tendency and not especially right after surgery...Good luck. I am sure you will be just fine.... -
No weight loss in over 2 months : (
onenuttynurse replied to Nonoma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same thing. I was stalled for about 3 weeks, and then upped my calories and bam. Start losing again which was nice. I now watch very carefully to make sure I get my calories in....I too eat little meals instead of 3 square meals which the NUT said was fine if it works for me...Good luck -

BMI 72 Yikes!!!
onenuttynurse replied to DiValencia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm very interesting that they would put a IVC filter in to begin with unless you have a hx of blood clots. I have never heard of these and to me it seems a little like jumping the gun. Do you have a history. Ivc filters are used to reduce the chance of clots, and most people keep them in especially if they have hx of PE or DVT......interesting............... -
Unfill before Trip??
onenuttynurse replied to kells0802's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with the girls that are saying DON'T UNFILL. Again, you seem to be setting yourself up right there. If you consistently unfill with every "vacation" or "get together", I think you are setting yourself up to fail. Don't make the get together all about food food food. Be wise with your choices. I had a family reunion recently. I ate before I went, and was only able to takes a few bites of this and that. The comments I got were "Jeeezzz I wish i could do that intead of wolfing down all of this food". I just smiled and kept nibbling......Good Luck with your choice. I just think we work way to hard to cheat ourselves..... -

Exercise and Calorie Restriction
onenuttynurse replied to delfinajones's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would agree that exercise decreases the appetite in some people. I exercise just about everyday, at least 6 days a week of hard intense exercising. When I am done,I feel great and actually will watch carefully what i am putting in my mouth. If i am having a lazy day where I don't exercise, my eating seems to slack off............I believe that calories and at least 30 minutes of exercise a day are essential.I prefer more like 1 hour because that is when i feel the best........ -
Baggy pants but a cool new belt
onenuttynurse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Dec 28th and have steadily been losing weight. For me, what i really have been focusing on is the exercising part(spinning every day in a class at the gym.). I really don't notice a differece like everyone else does. MY husband laughed and told me it was time to buy some new pants as the others are now falling off and I have plumbers butt...So, I went to the store and couldn't find a single pair. I am almost, so close to being able to comfortably fit in a 14, so I thought what the heck. Instead of coming home with new pants, I came home with a new belt to hold up the old pants until i lose about 10 more lbs, then I will go back....He just shakes his head but I thought it was a great idea....I can't see buying a 16 when i am closer to a 14 and almost there.....What do you think? -
Protein Shots anyone??
onenuttynurse replied to nurseab24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the protein shots, and I use the ones with 27 g of protein in them. I like the fruit punch ones. A little thick but tolerable on the palate.....even though real protein is still the best way to go, these are good in a pinch... -
First you are in someway responsible for some of this.....YOU are letting them make it their business. If you don't make a big deal out of it, they will stop, guaranteed. Why would you put up with this sh*t in the first place? Tell them to back off. I wouldn't give them a dimes worth of my time, husband included(and thats why I don't have friends,,,LOL). The band is a great tool, use it and be proud of your life changing decision. As for that husband of yours...Shame on him...he needs a slap upside that stupid head of his.......onenuttynurse

Feeling defeated, Can I make it?
onenuttynurse replied to mom2girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do it...The hard part is over, stop and take a deep breath. If it is candy you want, at least pick a candy or sweet treat that is somewhat good, like a sugarfree hard piece of candy. There are pretty darn good nutrition bars that take like a real chocolate bar....You can do it.....remember...I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR........ -
Being Bad.. HELP!!
onenuttynurse replied to ladytru84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all...YOU ARE HUMAN, so don't beat yourself up to bad. You are going to make mistakes good and bad. Soon you will get to the point where you can walk right past ice cream, cake, or bbq chinese food. I don't even crave ice cream, pop, or chips anymore and i only have less than 2cc in my band(banded in dec 09). so take a deep breath, look at your choices and remember everyone cheats and the people that say they are 100% commited to healthy choices are lying......pssst...they really are.... -
Question for Post Banders
onenuttynurse replied to anglov's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was shopping the next days, driving my car and out and about. Now i could definately tell i had surgery, however it wasn't bad enough to keep me home. Easy surgery compared to some. I did not take a single pain pill as for me it really wasn't that painfull. I wouldn't worry much about the recital if you have a driver........You will be fine.... -
Sudden Drop in Blood Pressure
onenuttynurse replied to Cocoabean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh believe me if you only knew. I was in the hospital for 4 days with low bp issues. Its due to losing weight and not listening to what our body needs and wants. I was on bp lisinopril at the time and could feel it coming on. Became very warm, sweaty and nauseated while caring for a patient. Go figure. Was able to sit down, call my collegue tell him to please come over to where i was sitting and THAT WAS IT...i WAS DOWN AND OUT, rushed to the ED and admitted for 4 days. The problem is when your bp drops it also affects the amt of oxygen to your brain, so I don't remember a thing, except i was concerned that they didn't have my bed rails up....Thats just part of being a nurse...Watch that bp and take it once a days, keep a journal for your PCP...It will level out soon...... -

onenuttynurse replied to castle1976's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You definately are not alone. I was banded in December and my hair is falling out too. Losing tons every day. I use nioxin, take hair vitamins with 6000mcg of biotin, and get all my protein in, and it is still falling out. So what the hell. I figure if i have done everything right and it is still falling out, then so be it. .....good luck and keep us posted..................oneuttynurse -
HHHHMMMMM - you could call it lightheadedness
onenuttynurse replied to hlangers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could look at a 100 different things. Yes blood pressure and blood sugar are good places to start. Then if you want to scare yourself a little, started looking at the pressure in your brain and heart. Not only do I have IcP(intracranial brain HTN), but I halso have a pulmondary shunt in my heart. So count yourself lucky. I found mind by fainting at work in a patient's room. Viral things also cause vertigo as well lack of sleep, inner ear issues, neck issues, eye issues, neurities clots...the list go on and on( i think you get the drift)..............I wouldn't stress about it too much...Live you life and be aware of it......I know it is somewhat concerning, but If i went to the Doctor everytime I got dizzy, I would be broke broke broke........May the force be with you.....onenuttynurse:smile: -
how do your spouses feel about your choice?
onenuttynurse replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny I never asked his opinion. He knew i was toying with the idea but thought I was kidding until 1 week before surgery...I had a friend take me to have my operation just in case something happened........At 42, I figure i don't need the approval for anything and honestly in this case his opinion didn't matter because my mind was made up. Harsh but true.... -
Was I ever suprised!
onenuttynurse replied to Janice221's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a unfortunate situation you had to go through with a happy ending being you were able to do this on your own and you are stronger than you think. As for the Doctor that was giving you a SubQ fill. He probably isn't the best person to get the fills from and everybody makes mistakes. If you are one of those rare people that have never made a mistake in your life whether it be personal or professional, you are better than me. Working in healthcare for 20 years, I can tell you that if this is the worst thing that ever happens to you in your life, i would say you are damn lucky..Doctors are not God, they are human people that make mistakes and yes we pay them 1000's of dollars, but we signed the paper to pay them that money in the begining...Its called a risk. I am glad you are getting your restriction we all hope for....Good Luck... -
Infected Incision
onenuttynurse replied to Mattsmyboy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Incisions are fickle little things. The fact that you went to get antibiotics is a good thing. Depending on big the incision is open depends on the tx. They can't close a infected incision, the skin is too vulnerable, so it has to heal from the inside out. Meaning by taking the abx, if it is big enough, it will be packed, and as it closes, they scar will look a little wide due to the tissue healing from the inside out. Does that make sense...If it is little, taking the abx and having steri strips will keep it approximated so it can close on its own.....don't worry, we do this all the time..little bump in the road,....take all the abx as prescribed and keep the site clean.....onenuttynurse...................
