Portion Control Plates/Containers
Mountaingal replied to GermanShepherdMama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have tupperware divided containers for "to go" and in my camper. I use Corning ware ones in the house which are more like china and can be microwaved forever. -
Great achievement, congratulations. Love your word wogging. I finally know what I am trying to do. Thanks and congratulations again.

Insurance will not cover
Mountaingal replied to feelfatnomore's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My insurance covers nothing to do with WL. I made the decision to go to Mexico for my surgery. It was so much cheaper and all the reviews I read were so positive. Care was just as good or better than in the US. Despite living on the east coast the trip was not bad at all. Last but not least Bariatric Pal took fabulous care of me. Trouble with Depression Meds absorption 2 years out?
Mountaingal replied to Elizabeth21's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Don't know anything about Pristiq but I do know from having several members on antidepressants that there can come a time when the one you have been on no longer works for whatever reason. My husband did wonderfully on Prozac for years and then it stopped working all of a sudden. My daughter has been on meds for over 20 yrs and periodically has to make changes or add another med to boost the first. Do talk to your Dr ASAP about this. You have worked too hard for your health to see it slip now. -
You will love not needing those fills. I hope you will do as well with plication as I have. I think it is an underused option in the WLS field.

Advice needed, plication recovery and secrecy
Mountaingal replied to twins2016's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I agree with other posters that this will be hard to hide. Not only the recovery time and inability to lift your children for a while but you will have 5 incisions. They may be small but they will be visible. I came home told I could lift a gallon of milk and add a pound to that each day so it will be while before you can lift much. Not only is there the post-op diet but the Dr may require you do a two week liquid diet before surgery. Like every other way of losing weight how well you do depends on you. You will want to eat less and feel full sooner but you can derail the weight loss by eating slider foods, drinking shakes and lots of soft things like ice cream or nibbling all day. My husband was not supportive of my doing this either. I waited and waited and finally told him I was doing it whether he approved or not. Then the strangest thing happened he became my greatest supporter! Maybe I just needed to be determined enough to improve my health and diets certainly hadn't helped. I really can't say why he changed his mind but he did and perhaps yours will too. I wish you all good luck in your quest for better health. -
Plication vs Sleeve cost
Mountaingal replied to twins2016's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I had my plication done in Mexico for 1/3rd the price you were quoted. It was slightly less than the sleeve. Why did I choose plication. I had the same thoughts you are having about risks, late complications etc. Additionally I didn't want to end up skinny just a more healthy weight.there is much debate about whether you can lose as much with a plcation. My background is from Europe where it is a very popular surgery and has been studied for far longer than here. They seem to give that surgery far better reviews than it gets here. Another consideration for me was that I care for a post stroke husband and could not afford a lot of down time for recovery. I am very happy with my choice. -
I did not have plication after a band but I did have a plication and so did my closest friend. We are both very happy with the results though we did not lose weight as fast as people do after the more invasive surgeries. If you search some of the European WLS sites you will find far more info on plication as it is far more popular there. Good luck . I hope you are happy with your results.

Trying to deal with anxiety and depression during 6 month diet.
Mountaingal replied to Amurillo04's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are many other antidepressants than Welbutrin. If you have no choice but live with your mother's behaviour then perhaps trying another one would be a good idea. I have a bi-polar husband and bi-polar children. Over the years they tried many meds before finding the right ones. During that time I had to live with their moods and found taking meds myself really helped. Lessening your stress load with meds and therapy might make a big difference in your psoriasis. Good luck. -
So frustrated with waiting for surgery
Mountaingal replied to j16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hang in there and don't give up. Your long term health should not be dictated by others even if they are not doing what they should like calling you appropriately. Just keep on trying to get answers and going through the process. YOU ARE WORTH IT. Good luck. -
ENDOSCOPIC GASTRIC SLEEVE.
Mountaingal replied to 2Anne's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I looked into this between a year and two years ago. I could not find a surgeon in the US or Mexico to do it. If you are self pay and want "real surgery" you have many affordable choices through medical tourism. I know there are many countries in Europe that offer it. Even a trip Mexico would not be out of reach by any means with your quite of 10,000 pounds for the endoscopic "gastric sleeve". You can get almost surgery done in Mexico for under $5,000which is somewhere between 3 and 4,000 pounds (not sure of current exchange rate). Bariatric Pal has GREAT surgeons and you couldn't be in better hands if you do think about medical tourism. By the way many Drs will consider surgery on someone of your age. Ask me how I know ! LOL. Good luck. -
You can do it and you have the tool to help you. Life has ups and downs and this is a lifelong battle. Regroup make a battle plan and we are all here to encourage you.Good luck.

I would cut the bars in half so I didn't start getting into the habit of eating more than I should especially so soon after surgery.

When Was the First Time Someone Noticed Your Weight Loss?
Mountaingal replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good topic Alex. Good reply catwoman7. I thought my family and friends were just very slow or didn't pay any attention seeing me till I read your reply. I had lost over 50lbs before anyone noticed and said anything. I wasn't terribly big (BMI of 36) in the first place so it was pretty obvious. Every time I saw family members I laughed inside and wondered how much longer it would be. It felt nice when they finally said something. Now their comments let me know they are just waiting for me to gain it back. Since they don't know I had surgery that also makes me smile. Both my son and DIL lost 25+ pounds last year and have regained it all already. However my son has seen me lose weight before and keep it off for many years so I guess they are basing the expectancy for me regain on their own experience. I just keep telling them at my age now I can't regain as I want to remain healthy and able to do things I enjoy as long as I can. -

Protein shake-need help!
Mountaingal replied to 4shiggles's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I like Unjury shake mix (have to buy online) along with Body Lab.You can also buy clear protein shakes, ready made. They avoid the chalky feeling and taste but are expensive. If you look there is a thread here about companies giving free or low cost shake mixes so you can try their product out. You can also often find deals on samples like that on ebay.I wish you good luck finding a brand (or more) that you like and with your upcoming surgery. -
Dad is thinking of getting sleeved, any advice I should give him
Mountaingal replied to pickle25's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you have no seminars look for Alex Brechers books on bariatric surgery. There is one on WLS in general and then individual ones for each surgery. They are called the "Big Book of (insert name of surgery)". They are available on line and I am sure the Bariatric Pal store must carry them. Really great books so packed with information and support as well as realistic info on possible problems. You might even find them on ebay in Australia which would cut down on shipping costs as they are big fat books. Plenty there for your to "chew on". -
Dad is thinking of getting sleeved, any advice I should give him
Mountaingal replied to pickle25's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Your dad is very lucky to have you by his side and caring about his health. Go with him to some seminars and ask questions. Try and find out how common the side effects you have are . They may be something he is unlikely to get.Make enquiries and see how many other Drs in your area do the surgery and try and find out which ones offer consults or seminars before you decide on who to go to. Your Dr or another choice. You say your dad loves food . Is he really ready to commit to this? You know it is a huge commitment. As for age I had my surgery at 64 and am so glad I did. I feel so much more ready to enjoy they rest of my in comfort and in better health.Good luck to you both in traveling this road. -
I enjoy turnips and carrots mashed or pureed together with a little artificial sweetener added. They freeze very well and you can simply scoop out a spoon full at a time and warm it. For some reason early on this mix settled better in the tummy than many other veggies.

Mngreeneyes hit the nail on the head. Ricola Sugar frees are the best. My daughter uses the Sambucol and loves them but I have not tried them . Sorry you have this bug on top of recovering from surgery. Feel better soon.
