    Pre op liquid diet

Sunshine 3073 Keep your eyes on the prize and will get through these 14 days. Being allowed full liquid will help as well. There are lots of things you can add to your shakes to make them less boring. You could try unflavored protein and add veggies, cottage cheese and some savory flavorings to it....tomato juice can be mixed with protein powder! Good luck.
  2. Good luck and a quick and easy recovery.

    Konjac noodles/pasta/rice?

Tried them a few weeks ago thinking as you they would be a healthy thing to eat. Tasteless, and very slippery slimy in your mouth. Frankly they were so distasteful I could not eat them.

    Feelings of guilt and failure

Just look at the statistics for keeping off weight the "old fashioned way". We have all struggled and worked so hard only to gain it and maybe more back. You are not a failure. You are a person with what is now recognized as a metabolic problem. Only people who don't have a clue think this is any easy way out. If you plan on talking to people about your choice use it as a n opportunity to educate them (if they stop talking long enough to listen) about the real facts surrounding wls. I have told very few people so I don't have to deal with people who will drain my energy and not support me. If you had told me even a few years ago that I would have WLS I would have thought you were crazy. Over time it became clear it was my only chance at a healthier and more comfortable life. I was plain tired of carrying all that weight around. I wanted that energy for living! Good luck. It won't be long till you are celebrating and enjoying your choice.

    No real ending we decided

Glad he is going for some counseling and hopefully some meds. Bi-polar is a horrible disorder for everyone involved but can be managed. I have a family full of it and have seen first hand how counseling and meds together can change lives. I wish you both good luck.

    My nsv this week!

What a huge improvement in such a short time. Congratulations. When is your surgery?
  7. or any of the other books on surgeries by Alex and Natalie. For anyone who has not seen these books they are a must for yourself or a gift for anyone thinking about surgery and wanting to learn more. There is so much wonderful information in them. They are simple to understand, well illustrated with charts and diagrams and are full of ideas to help you through the process from your first thought about WLS to maintaining permanently. They are very upfront educating you in both positive and negative aspects of surgery but not scaring you in any way. They give a truly realistic idea of what this all about. Maybe they should be called the Weight Loss Bible of Gastric Sleeve etc etc. Thank you Alex and Natalie for all the work you put into writing these books.
  8. So sorry you seem to have a long wait ahead of you tia92. You have made a hard decision and are ready to get on with it. My insurance does not cover anything to do with weight loss so knowing I would have to self pay I chose to go to Mexico. I see a lot of people from the UK end up doing some form of medical tourism instead of waiting indefinately. I hope you do not have to do that but if you do it will be the best investment you will ever make. Good Luck
  9. Hope the Unjury turns out be what you need. I think they are one of the best. There are also plant based protein shakes , Plant Fusion being one brand that might help with the lactose intolerance.

So the hospital where I had my surgery is having a...

Sounds like a great idea. Another way to break the taboos that still surround WLS and get it into the main stream. Good for you for offering to be a part of it. Hope you find some nice new clothes for the event.

    In need

What type of things do you need? Plus where are you located? Shipping can be pricey.
  14. I am ten days out from surgery. I have not found any smells that bother me or as yet any that make me want to eat. I might think about something, say a hamburger after smelling one but I am not tempted at all and my tummy just plain isn't ready for one. I am sure your dad's Dr or nutritionist will help you through this step by step. Some want you on liquids for weeks and others don't. There are lots of posts here about eating. I remember there are some that say things "what are you eating two weeks out, or 4 weeks out". Lots of folks to help you and in turn your dad. Prayers all will go smoothly in the am.
  15. backtome1987 if you haven't booked yet I just had my surgery last week in Mexico with Dr Lopez through Bariatric Pal. I could not say enough wonderful things about BP and Dr Lopez. There is no way I could have had a better experience.
  16. How are you doing now Katie1967? I hope you are already convinced what you did was the best thing ever for yourself. I am one week out and doing so much better than I ever really thought one could do so soon.
  17. I am at one week out right now. Feel great. Haven't taken any pain meds since leaving the hospital. Was out walking 2-3 miles at a clip the day after being released from the hospital. Of course I am not lifting anything heavy. Incisions are slightly sore. Doing chores, cooking for husband (and not wanting to eat it all). Took maybe a 20 min nap yesterday after getting up at my normal time of 6am or so. Taking in some "sloppy" forms of Protein and tolerating them well.Just pace yourself and don't do anything crazy like having a toddler bounce on your tummy or letting your dog jump up on your lap.

    Finally done it!

jannietom, back safely after a wonderful experience with Dr Lopez and Bariatric Pal. No stitches to be removed. I was glued. Wonder why the difference. How are you doing? I will post more after I had rested from the long trip home.

From RNY to DS = CT to CA

Sincere good wishes NurseSmart. It takes a lot of bravery to what you are going to do. You obviously want to take care of yourself which is wonderful. I am sure the nurses etc will be of more help than you would ever expect. Good luck finding an affordable place to stay.
  21. Thanks for bringing up the important discussion Alex.

    What's on Today's Menu?

Smoked salmon and a hard boiled egg over a mixed green salad. Mmm pure heaven.

    Anybody using a Portion Plate?

Alex if you go to ebay and google things like...divided toddler plate..and other similar things you will find lots of ideas from cheap plastic to melamine to Stangle pottery. Starting there I bet you could find a manufacturer you could buy in bulk from and even have plates customized for Bariatric Pal. Maybe sippy cups too.LOL

    Anybody using a Portion Plate?

I bought a very cute Peter Rabbit kiddie plate. Not quite as toddlerish as some of the choices out there.
