Not true. I'm fifteen and Dr. Ferrera in Forth Worth approved me right away. I'm getting my surgery done sometime in June, and there are plenty of other doctors in Texas that would do it. I know that it's pretty much the same flight, and would cost just about the same, but atleast it's american done. And don't get freaked out at the mention of Mexico. Alot of the doctors located in the border towns are trained and taught here in the US and go to Mexico strictly for the purpose of doing these surgery's for people that either can't get approved, don't have insurance, and that are under 18.

My nutritionalist gave me a trick for pasta and rice. cook them, and then let them sit in a new pan of water over night. They'll soak up the water and expand as much as they are going to.

I'm fif-teen and in Texas. Wondering if there are any others on here that are around my age. I was deinied the surgery in December, but we are fighting with the Insurance Company and I am hoping to get it around Spring Break. Does anyone have any advice or similarish stories?

Hey. I actually just got approved as well. =) I have to have two more nutritionalist and counseling visits though, which is isn't that bad.

I totally agree with LeighaMason. And I am having a similar time as you. My best friend has been backing me for the past year in trying to get approved, but now that it's actually going to happen, she's been totally different. She's been telling me that if I want a running partner, then she'd go with me. I haven't even mentioned to her anything about what I do to excercise. She has been very critical of things that I eat and tells me that I should not be wearing tank tops and such in public. These things really hurt me and I was very confused. I talked to someone else that they said that she had told them that she was afraid I was going to change and I wouldn't be her friend anymore. We talked and everything's cool now with us. Maybe you could just try talking to your friend.

Hey, I'm currently fif-teen, 304 lbs and 5'5". I just got approved (after the three denials) and am schedualed for sometime in the summer. Before I got approved I wasn't scared at all, but now that it's happening I'm starting to get butterflies. If anyone has any advice, please help. I can't not go through with this, my body won't be able to take it. I hope that I have the same results that you have had and congrats. =)

I am currently fifteen and was deinied in December for the surgery with the exvuse that I wasn't done growing. My surgeon was an all go for it, as was my regular doctor. I think that the only issue your child will run into will be the inurance company. (Btw, we proved that I was done growing with a few x-rays and are now fighting my insurance company.)

Hey, I'm fifteen and am supposed to be getting the Band close to December. My father got the band last December, and now my mother and I are going to get it. I love my dad, but I know that whatever I ask he is going to be biased, and I know he get's annoyed that I keep asking him the same things but with different wording, just be sure that he's being honest. I just really think that it would be best if I had someone who was un-biased to ask questions and go to for support. I'm into music, Marching Band (Go band nerds!!!), Electronics, writing, animals, eco-friendly things, most teenage girl stuff, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. XD

Ok, so my father went through a mid life crisis or something and came home with a brand new Harley Dyna Superglide awhile back ago. I have been in LOVE ever since. I got to steer it a few days ago (I had to lean around him, highly uncomfortable btw), and I had no clue what I was doing. I never learned how to ride a bike, I can't drive anything with a clutch, and I have an incredibly short attention span. I know that it will be a couple of years before I will ever be able to actually drive one, but does anyone have any tips on how to learn???

Coolio MoxieDo!!! I'm set up to get Dr. Ferrera to do my surgery, but I seriously contemplated having Dr. Smith do it! And what camp? lol, if you talking bout band then yes. and I'm dead tired. XD And that's good Erin! lol, so how is being banded for a week (or however long it is) going!?

lol. I'm sure that you are!!! And I found out something really cool. There's a girl in my school who's also in band ( like me. ) and she's banded!

Urgh, we have to go to a new nutritionalist now. =( I guess that this is the first speedbump in this whole process for me.

Lol, my nutritionist gave me some of their vitamins and I tried one in her office. When I left I just gave the rest of them back. She seemed to get a real kick out of that. XD

Yah, I did. I almost lost my dinner. But it was probably just the brand, he always buy's the cheapest thing no matter what it is. Lol, I feel like a kid again. I have to take Calcium and Vitamins now, so we went out and bought Flinstone vitamins. I haven't had them since I was little! =)

Yah, I'll try and convince him to make his shake tonight so that I can taste it. I went to see my nutritionalist today! It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. :cool2:

Trust me, I'll get plenty of exercise. Band Camp starts in two weeks and it's State year, so I'll probably be dead by September. As for the Cookies and Cream, my dad says that it is disgusting and worst than chocolate. Trust me, if he won't eat it, then it has to be bad.

0_o...lol, I didn't understand half of that! XD I'll figure it out though. how long is this liquid diet going to last? Am I going to be on it until November??? (Lol, I forgot what my daddy ate and stuff, but I know that it'll probably be different because I'm so young. XD )

Ugh. I know, my dad goes out and buys these huge like, two gallon things of the powder. He used to only get chocolate, so one day I decided to try it and I started gagging. He hasn't bought any vanilla, but I have had Special K Protien shakes...but I'm not sure if that is the same thing. Right now he's got Cookie's and Cream, so I'm thinking that once I get home I'll try it. Wow, lol, I'm kind of rambling. XD

I've heard alot of people complain about protien shakes.

Yah, but I have to go back next week to meet the dieticsian person. When are you supposed to be banded?

Ok, I went and met Dr. Ferrera today! Everything went good, and he said that we could get me banded by November with no problem!

Lol, I consider the fair exercise, but then again, when me and my friends are trying to find an excuse to not exercise, we say that shopping is exercise. XD I wish that I had learned to ride a bike or roller blade. =(
