Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread
Sandie203 replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded for a little over a year. I have severe back problems. Had surgery. It didn't work. I had steroid shots for the pain. I gained 12 lbs. I can't seem to shed the excess weight. Do you think WW will work for me? -
I had my lapband surgery a little over a year ago. I did well. By last summer, I managed to get 40 lbs off of me. Felt and looked great! Unfortunately, it did nothing for my humongous lower back pain from surgery that went wrong. So, I had 3 steroid shots. None worked. What did work, was my appetite! I gained 12 lbs. toute suite!!! (very fast) I went to a few support groups, but had to stop because I had to go to my spiritual training (bible study). I wanted to also study the book of Isaiah. Very important to me. However, I feel I need a bit more support from my fellow human beings. I know what I have to do, but I need a bit of hand holding, encouragement and reminders. Is there anyone out there willing to help me for a little bit...just a boost to set me rolling on my own??? Thanks in advance. :-)

To fill or not to fill - that is the question
Sandie203 replied to timmmers's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's been 7 weeks since I had my first fill. I'm noticing now that I''m eating more than a cup of food. I can finish a whole lean cuisine. After I eat that, I'm looking to eat a little sugar free fruit cocktail. I'm also noticing I haven't lost 1 to 2 lbs per week. That could also be because I haven't been exercising on a steady basis because of a very bad back situation. However, bad back or not I still could be in the pool doing something! Anyway, I think I should go in for another fill. Would I have to keep doing this?? -
Question about pain at port incision
Sandie203 replied to windyridgemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never did get to talk with the assistant doctor or nurse educator. I did get to talk with the office assistant who said that the pain that I spoke of is very common and that it's only been 6 weeks since my surgery. She probably told the nurse educator that she spoke with me and that's why the nurse didn't call me. I think that's still tacky. Anyway, the pain has gone down and I feel better. I'm still going to call again, just for the principle of it. -
Question about pain at port incision
Sandie203 replied to windyridgemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope I didn't rip anything either. However, in a matter of 17 hours, I will have called the doc's office to ask what she thinks might be the problem. However, when I put an ice pack on it for 20 minutes, it feels better. hmmm, interesting. -
Question about pain at port incision
Sandie203 replied to windyridgemom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having pain in the portal area. Started getting bad when I had to push hard for a B.M. And it happened after offices are closed on a Friday. Now I have to wait until Monday to call the doc's office. Wish me luck. -
I think maybe I know why the port area is sore (just a guess). Lately I've been constipated and I was straining. I think maybe I'm baring down on that spot. But that might be TMI!! lol I will definitely ask for numbing.

Going on a cruise... OMG
Sandie203 replied to jayme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm planning a mini cruise up the Hudson River. O'r duerves will be served. I'm not worried. I studied for a year with a nutritionist to help train my mind for healthy food choices...before the band surgery. I even went on an 8 day cruise and didn't gain a pound! I just looked around to see what I could see and found good food choices. Watching people pile their plates a mile high (knowing that they couldn't finish it), made me sick to my stomach! Watching GLUTENY in all its rawness kept me on my eating program. -
I'm glad I read this post because mine is due November 4th! My port area is already sore and a bit swollen. This to me is unusual because it's been a month and a half and the pain was going away. Imagine when I have the fill how it's going to feel. *chewing nails*

Sharp little pains on the right?
Sandie203 replied to 99ways's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today, I'm starting to get pain in the port area. It also feels alittle swollen. Of course I waited too late to call the doc's office and it's Friday!!! What could it be? Is a pill that's too large stuck there? -

Thanks for the tips! I will try to find the nutrition section and see if I can find something that will satisfy me. Frankly, I don't like to cook, but with the new lifestyle change, cooking will have to be one of the things that I will have to change and start liking it! :-) I'm afraid to start up with too many spices and tomato sauce, as I'm still in the nauseous stage. These spices are the two things I like the most in food preps. -
I'm 2weeks into post operative, Stage II eating schedule. Having a rough time with nausea but no vomiting (thank God). I'm ready for any Stage eating schedule because I'm tired of the foods I'm supposed to eat. I'm trying to find other ways to prepare those same foods without cheating. Baby food is a total turnoff at this point. I must have suggestions as to how to perk up the foods on Stage II. And I'm totally turned off to Splenda, as by the evening, the after taste is overwhelming. Otherwise, stitches are good. No horrors there. I'm down 16 lbs. and looking good.

Consider your butt KICKED!!!! LOL! Say to yourself (like I do), self, tomorrow, I will walk outside for that (yada) number of blocks. I will go at my own pace and I WILL ENJOY MYSELF! Then when the next day comes, resign yourself to your promise. You must not break a promise to yourself. So get out there and have a wonderful time. I myself like swimming or something like it. I worked up to 1 hour per day for 5 day week. I lost a dress size!!!!!

Thanks for replying; I'm eating yogart, applesauce, SF Carnation Instant Bkfst., jello, just recently SF pudding, baby food (no wonder the poor things don't want to eat it). I've gotten to the point of wanting to upchuck just thinking about baby food! I'm forced to eating chicken legs without puree (reminds me of baby food), vegetable soups without puree, bananas without mashing them and spinach. I can eat spinach with powdered potato and a little low fat margarine. My stomach seems to tolerate all these foods without puree. I wonder did I stretch my stomach already? -
Fill #16 - yes, another fill!

What's a fill? Why do you think you felt nauseous the next morning? -
So far for me, the surgery itself is a piece of cake. Pain in the belly was small stuff and healed in a week.
-
I say do the one week of school. Exercise is a must, since it gives you energy to do the homework and it helps with stress. You are young, you can do these things. I did it and it paid off big time. I was able to retire early and go on cruises!!! Get the house as a last resort. Talk to someone about extended time for tax credit. Ask really nice, it might get you somewhere.

How do you get your 64 ounces of water in a day?
Sandie203 replied to katmeow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find that this is virtually impossible for me. I can hardly do 1 quart of water because I'm so nauseous and quick to fill up. -
I haven't had surgery yet. It's good that I know about the gas and BM concerns, as I have it now. I can plan ahead.
-
I burp after each sip of anything. What's going to happen after my surgery? I might explode!! Ask your doc if you can take lactaid tablets.
-
My nutritionist told me not to drink anything...not even a sip after eating a meal (post op). If you do, you will empty your stomach before time.
