Just curious... if you do cheat.. doesnt the band slip close to the cheat date? or can it slip months later? I can start solids tomorrow..but i am scared to! -
...also when you are allowed "full liquids" make suer to drink at lease one protein shake a day.... the nutritionist at my surgeons office warned me that if I dont, it can cause hairloss

how nice it would be to not pay so $ money for fills
-
* from what I know... Some doctors fill the band at surgery b/c they use a larger one size fits all band. If a smaller BMI individual gets the large band, they might need some fill (at surgery), however a larger BMI patient does not. My surgeon uses several different sized bands, depending on the patient. I am a lower BMI (31.4) and have an 11cc band and did NOT get filled at surgery...just as someone mentioned, b/c of the swelling... it would have not been an accurate fill and TOO much restriction. I was banded July 8th and am on 21 day liquids, but i am still not hungry.. MY surgeon (bc each is different) recommended the first fill at weeks 6-8...depending on how I feel. Personally, I have never heard of someone getting there first fill after a whole year? But that'd be wonderful if someone could have enough restriction until then! Remember..everyone is different, and there are several different bands out there that come in different CC sizes... def talk to YOUR surgeon and see what HE recommends. Dont get me wrong, this site is GREAT, but not everyone's advice from their surgeon is the same..not everyone's experiences are the same...& def not everyone's fill experiences are the same.... My doc has me on 21 day liquids...then slowly solids, where as many people on here are eating "mushies" after 3 days and my doc says NO NO to mushies. Not saying one doc is more right then the other, but the advice/recommendation may be... do what YOURS says. :crying: Hope that helps? GOOD LUCK!! Agnes

July 8th here! -
Hi!! I was banded on July 8th..(congrats BTW) I WISH I was burping!! The gas pain sat in my chest and HURT like a 24 hour heart attack! it felt soo good to burp to release some gas! LOL But from what I have read, you will have alot of gas for a couple weeks (whether it sits or comes out) bc of the CO2 that they pump in your stomache during the surgery... I know its not lady like, but I'd rather burp all day than sit in pain :wink2: My gas started to move into the back and was so painful ..i am a baby  but it's FINALLY getting better. remember...WALK WALK WALK! It helps the gas! as far as you getting out of breath, are you walking too fast? remember we had major surgery, so take it easy... and if it doesnt get better...ALWAYS consult your doctor!! GOOD LUCK!!

Can you feel the band slip?

YEAH! and have tons of saggy skin!!! LOL thats the negative side of gastric (i think) It's almost TOO fast... (cant believe i am even saying that, LOL) I most likely will stay here for fills. I would LOVE to go to Dr Ortix for fills but I am on the east coast, so it really depends on cheap flight, $...etc. But I have several options here... Yeah, I was told (as fat as neds go) ask if they have SMALL pills or in liquid form..they told me anything bigger than an advil is too big.. God! I just wanna fast forward 6 months! -

Can you feel the band slip?
Agnes replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
aww sorry to hear that! yeah, I have not had many major problems, but thats bc I am not on solids yet.. Dr Ortiz has me on 21 liquids (NO MUSHIES) and I am not getting my first fill until 6 weeks. So i guess we will see then! I have only lost 6 lbs, but I am trying not to focus on the scale since I am still healing and retaining fluids... Are you taking your antibotics on an empty stomache? try having at least some orange juice or something or crackers? Maybe it is upsetting you stomache, like you said? -

Can you feel the band slip?

* Hey Sue! Everything went great! I loved the OCC and the doctors! very good experience! Other then nausea from the meds, I felt MUCH better than i thought I would... until i got home.. The gas pains in the chest and back were unbearable!! I didnt get any in the shoulder...but the feeling of a 24 hour heart attack is enough! I went back to work Tuesday and was in so much pain and discomfort that I left early and took the rest of the week off! My firt official day back in tomorrow. Still have port pain, but gas pains are FINALLY gone!! How r you!!? -
Hey there! I was banded July 8 by Dr. Ortiz at OCC in Tijuana, Mexico... GREAT facility and staff!! I will not be going back to Mexico for fills (bc I live on the East Coast, so it would get very costly with flights.. unless i am visiting my friend in San Diego or something) you just have to find a doc near you that will take patients who were baned outside the US. Prices vary on the doctor... all the docs I found are anywhere between $100-$250 for a fill (and thats W/O xray/floro...) So try to find a doc first if you dont plan on traveling to Mexico for fills. The last thing you want is complications and you havent found a US doctor yet.. A am self pay too, so I knwo how ya feel! Good luck!!!

PS...that was me (Agnes) who replied to the post not Enote,....Enote is my husband and I just realized he was still logged in when I replied
-
Hello there! This is the wife! I am self-pay so no clases.. I am assuming that is required by insurance?
-
* aww i just wanna give you a big hug! I'm so sorry! I really hate insurances companies! they suck! You could start college a healthy happy 18 year old..i mean geeze you are trying to get healthier...not be old enough to buy a packs of smokes! I dont know if its a US thing that you have to be 18 and over, but if it is, have you thought of going outside the US? They have done teenagers younger than you.. But I agree... call them (or have your parents call) and find out the EXACT reasons why they denied you and fight fight fight!! They dont realize that this will save them SO much $ then covering longer term health problems! GOOD LUCK!! xoxo
