  1. I'm one week post op and I'm having discomfort under my left rib. Nothing seems to help. Has anyone else experienced this?
  2. Hi Renee, First off, I believe the 5% is an insurance thing. You'd have to check however that being said, the thing that I love about the comprehensive weight loss center is that they want you to be able to follow rules PRIOR to surgery. If you can't...how are you going to succeed after. I'm sure they gave your the book and you have to log all your food and exercise. You don't have to follow SB...try the low glycemic diet. That worked for me. You may also want to go the next support group on 11/18. It helps to talk with people who have had the surgery. I went prior to my surgery and I will continue to go unless I have a conflict. As for your second questions. The lap band is a tool and nothing more. You're the one that decides what you eat..no one else. Do you want to throw up? I would say not, so don't overeat. That's why I'm so impressed with the center. They are very helpful with EVERYTHING. Don't be afraid to ask.

Emotional Eating and Asking For What You Want

Keep in mind that I don't know you and am only responding to what you typed. I know that if I had only lost 20 lbs in 2 years (you were banded 07), I'd have to evaluate what I'm eating and why. I'd have to ask myself is what I'm eating taking me closer to or farther from my goal. I have a co-worker that was banded in April and has lost 54 lbs which to me is good but I watch her constantly eat the wrong foods and then have to throw-up because things get struck. I'm not willing to do that. You need to figure out what you're willing to do. Just because you can eat...should you be? The lap band is just a tool. It's not going to make you lose weight. I hope you find out what's stopping you. This support group is a great.

    New from NY State

I'm from Grand Island and just had my surgery at Buffalo General Hospital on 11/2/09. I'm doing good. Have up days and down days. Because the weather was so good today I thought I'd go for a walk and over did it. My family was so upset with me. One thing that my surgeon is an advocate of is ice packs after surgery. It helps with swelling and it feels good. I just stopped using mine yesterday. Also, because you're in bed for a couple days, I put a heating pad underneath me and it helped my back. I try to sit up as much as possible. I'm not getting as much Fluid in as I should. I'm going about 2 oz an hour but I'm also sleeping for 2 to 3 hrs in the morning and afternoon so I've got to quit that. I'm due to go back to work next week. I only took 2 weeks off because I didn't think I'd need much more than that. Still don't if my surgeon will give me the green light. I lost 30 lbs prior to surgery. That was my goal to myself. I wanted to know that I could succeed on my own following the South Beach/Low Glycemic diet I will be doing for the rest of my life. I also started exercising. Since surgery Monday, I'm down another 9 lbs. Kind of scary to lose that much in one week so hopefully my surgeon won't be upset. I'm so glad I found this board and can talk with others going through the same trials that I am.
  5. Why are you beating yourself up? Just being your surgeon makes a recommendation of 4 weeks (btw mine says 10 days), if your body needs more nurishment, soup would be and is fine. Now if you said you ate a hamburger and french fries I'd be worried LOL, but not soup. Remember that the lap band is just a tool. You're the one in control of what passes through your lips. I just had my surgery on 11/2 so I'm 5 days post op. Right now nothing sounds good except my protein shakes which after 1 to 2 oz make me full. Again, don't beat yourself up. :w00t:
  6. I just had my lap band surgery on 11/2/09. I'm 5 days post-op and feel pretty good except some intermittent pain under my left rib cage. Dr. Hoffman and the staff and the comprehensive weight loss center are amazing. I started my journey in August @ 277 and was 247 on the day of surgery. By keeping my food logs and following the south beach/low glycemic diet as well as exercising it's been easy. As a matter of fact, I'm chomping at the bit to get back to the gym. Right now I'm only able to tolerate 1 to 2 oz of protein shake every hour and am down 6 lbs since surgery. I have my follow-up with Dr. Hoffman on Tuesday. I also like the fact that they have the weight loss support group that meets monthly. I went even prior to having my surgery and it was great to talk with everyone that was there. I'm hoping to go to this months meeting and then I'll be there regularly starting in January (had conflict with bowling on Wednesdays). I saw a bunch of post regarding weight gain and my advise it to start doing food logs again and jump on the south beach wagon again. Make sure you're getting your exercise too. I swear by the food logs. It makes you accountable for your choices. Surgery is a tool but you have to be incontrol of what you put in your mouth.

    protein shakes =nasty

I'm day 5 post op but even prior to surgery I was using a protein shake that I really liked. It's EAS Carb Control and it has 110 cals and 17 grams protein. I've also found a power shot that I REALLY like. It's same cals and has 25 grams protein. Tastes like a grape popcicle. I've only been able to do about 1 to 2 oz of liquid every hour or so. As far a pureed food. Went a bought my stick hand mixer and am looking forward to some pureed veggies as well as black beans. I'm not big on V8 juice. Tried the fruit fusions and didn't like them at all.
