So right now, I am in the earliest stage of this whole process. I know I want to do this. But I also know that in order to get approved by my insurance, there's a minimum of a 6-month wait (because they make you complete a 6-month long program before being considered). I don't know if I can wait that long. It seems immature to say that I'm too impatient, but I am. I guess I'm just impatient to start. I feel like I'm wasting time. I know that I'll have to jump through hoops to get approved and I'm not sure I'm up for that. Plus, I'm in the process of getting a new doctor and there's a shortage of PCPs in MA so that will add extra time. I feel a bit trapped here.

I don't want to wait
KarissaLynn replied to KarissaLynn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure both of you are right. I guess I'm just anxious to get started. I'm just afraid that I might not be approved. And not knowing is what freaks me out a bit because if I don't get approved, then I can't do this (at least not now). There is just no way I can self pay. -
Right now I have Tufts, but I'm considering changing companies if it will make this process faster/easier. My choices are BCBS of MA, United Healthcare, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, or Tufts. I have heard good things about UHC, but idk for sure. Any info on any of these companies would be much appriciated.

i am a binge eater,is the lapband right for me?
KarissaLynn replied to briannalm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is exactly what I'm hoping for...I know that I binge eat for many reasons and that I haven't been able to stop myself for long. But this way, I'm hoping to be physically stopped from binging since emotionally, I can't stop :blushing: -
Highest weight? or weight at surgery?
KarissaLynn replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My highest was 265 at 5'3" and now I think I'm around 260. I'm just starting the process so who knows when/if I'll get approved...Sigh...I can't get banded otherwise -
I hate the idea of waiting another 6+ months! Plus my doctor is on leave for a while, so I won't be able to talk with her until August! I was planning to change doctors at some point here...would this process work with a new doctor? Or should I just wait until mine is back?

Frustrated and a little sad............
KarissaLynn replied to amlus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do all insurance companies require 3 years above 40? Or just yours? My weight hasn't been very consistent...although I know that it's always been at least 35  -
6 Month Diet Before Approval
KarissaLynn replied to SmartSassyChick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm new too and I've heard that my insurance requires the 6-month diet. I have to wait until Monday to ask them for sure...I really don't want to wait 6+ months but I don't see any other way. I'm an unemployed student so I can't self pay  -
Getting approved at 19...was it hard?
KarissaLynn replied to DanBar's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 19 now and hoping to get approved. I just started the process so I haven't done any paperwork yet or anything... -
I have Tufts Navigator from EMC and I am so afraid that they will turn me down. Is Tufts the one that requires that 6-month program? Or is it the surgeons? I'm brand new to this whole thing, so I need all the info I can get (esp about the insurance company!)

I am also a binge eater and am looking into the lap band. I'm already in counselling, but that isn't doing much good on its own. I am really hoping that I will be able to have the surgery (and soon!). Let me know how yours works out and good luck -
I just started researching lap-band and am positive that I want to be banded! But I'm terrified that my insurance won't cover it. I cannot afford it otherwise... I have Tufts Navigator of MA. Does anyone else have tufts or know anything about it?
