  1. I just started walking today. I didn't exercise before the band, so I started out slowly. My husband and I went and walked a mile. I am planning on upping it 1/4 of a mile per week.

    Dana,

That's all I'm doing right now is walking. I walked during my Post-Op period and it helped. I slowly have worked my way up to 90 mins a day. My doc won't let me do any type of weights or strength exercises until 6 wks, so I am following his advice on the gym for now.

  2. My doctor is a stickler for waiting 6 wks. My first fill will be Nov 2nd, which is actually about 6 1/2 wks, but its my fault beause I will be out of town for a bit. I hope I can continue on my own until then. Right now I feel like I am "dieting" which never works for me, thats why I was banded in the first place :)

  3. Laura K....I'm sort of waiting for winter....it was very warm again today. However, what we will get is hot weather then 1 week of really nice weather, then it will freeze or something. Sometimes the desert gets missed with spring and fall.

I'm going to a wedding in Ft. Worth on the 17th of October. I was hoping to be at a certain weight by then, but I'm not making that goal. I'm about 8 pounds away. That's not bad, but I think I'm going to have to "diet". Yes, I know it's a lifestyle change, but for me that means smaller portions forever and exercise and not being obsessed by food and not eating for comfort (eventually) it really doesn't mean dieting. I think I'm going to have to "diet" for the next two weeks to get at least close to the goal. I'm posting this so I have some accountability to you here on the thread. Otherwise, I'll tell myself this and blow if off at the first difficult moment. "Dieting" means calorie counting, logging my food, exercise at least 4 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day and posting that I've got through another day for the next two weeks. Okay...now it's in writing.

Hope everyone has a great night!!

    Eva

Eva, good luck with the dieting. I don't think there is anything wrong with dieting as a "short term" solution. Everyone here has been able to lose weight in the short term at one time or another. Just don't let yourself feel too deprived, stick to the basics and you will be just fine! After the wedding, treat yourself for your effort!

  4. I was banded 09/15/09 and as of today, I am 4 lbs shy of my Turkey Day Challenge goal of 20 lbs! I am very excited..

I am trying to work out a Non-food reward system for myself as I reach these little goals. (ie shoes or a manicure)

    Here is my question:

Do you reward yourself for your weightloss accomplishments?

    What type of rewards ?

I don't want to do clothes since I do not intend to fit in them very long :)

  5. As of today, I am 4 lbs shy of my Turkey Day Challenge goal of 20 lbs! whoohoo! I am very excited. Although I felt like I could probably lose more by Turkey Day, I am determined to keep myself to smaller one because I will have 3 week vacation before Turkey Day that will be challenging and I won't get my first fill until 8 wks post op because of my trip.

  6. I am leaving on a cruise 10-17. Makes me nervous. At that point I will be 7 weeks out. Any suggestions to make my food choices easier?

Where are you going? my cruise will be 14 days, I hope to stick to seafood and veggies and stay away from red meat. Last cruise I did had some great classes and gym equipment. My husband enjoys walking with me and we hope to do a walk each morning. We usually try to do it at sunrise, its sooo peaceful!

  7. Thanks, yes foliage is coming, trees are turning, although my friends from the Cape say its still green there, thank you for the words, so how has your journey been, what Proteins have you been taking? I've found that MIX1 is easy for me and its good, and I'm super grateful for no nausau, gas or pain, I feel a tightness when I move at my port site, but I also had hernia repair so all in all it didn't really feel like surgery. My hubby is from LA, New Iberia.......have you started excercise? Nice to meet you

I am drinking a Protein Drink called PrescriptFit,its pretty good, I have added mushies now, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs and tuna with a little light mayo. I have some tightness @ port site but its less and less each day. My doctor wont allow anything but low impact cardio, I have slowly increased my walking and now do 90 mins.

I asked about the foilage because we are leaving on a cruise from boston-new orleans in 3 wks.:(

  8. I was banded on Sept. 18, and am definitely on the mend. Almost no pain at all now, except for some at the port site, but just occasionally. I am still pretty tired though and am sleeping a lot. I've lost about 15 lbs (I think; my home scale is not very accurate), and am very happy about that.

Just another 3 days on liquids for me and then on to mushies!! I can't wait. :(

Hey, is there somewhere on the board here that tells you how to put one of those weight loss tickers in your signature? I can't find out how to do it.

goto tickerfactory.com and create your ticker, copy the html

    goto USER CP

    edit signature

    paste html code and save

make sure you use a pin so you wont have to redo the ticker as you adjust it!

  9. HI

    Banded 8/31 will that due??

We welcome you to the Sexy Septembers! Scroll back to our list and add your name if you like :)

Hello everyone! Tomorrow will be 1 week since i was banded. Im still a little sore and the gas can be bad but i feel a lot better today then i have all week. Since the preop liquid diet i have now lost 24 pounds. Im so excited but have a long way to go and know it wont always be so easy for it t come off. Hope eveyone is well! :)

I am 2wks post op today, everyday your soreness will be less and so will the gas. 24 pounds is amazing, don't minimize your accomplishment! I set myself mini goals, 10 lbs each, something to help keep that feeling of accomplishment fresh!:tongue2:

  10. I am hoping that maybe tomorrow they will tell me I can still have the surgery this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!! I hope the others that were supposed to have their surgery today had a better day than me!

Aww I am sooo sorry your not feeling well. As badly as you want your band, you don't want to have it put in until you are feeling better. Your liquid diet will continue afterwards. Good Luck!

  11. I was banded on 9/3 and the hunger is really starting to kick in. I'm having no problem eating soft foods and the restriction I originally had seems to be decreasing. I'm hanging in there until Oct 16th when I get my first fill. I felt great immediately after, and I swear, if I didn't have healing incisions, I think I could almost believe I had never been banded. Thankfully, I've lost 16 lbs since the 3rd. Is this hunger normal?

They call this time "bandster hell" lol. It is the time between when you are healed and start to feel the hunger and when you get your fill. It is very common. I havent got there yet, but I expect it to hit me very soon too. Just eat and try to make good choices. It's like dieting on your own again. I well be out of town and won't get my first fill until my 8th week so I hope I can hangon to my willpower for a couple weeks. That's why I am trying to make the most of this time when my hunger is not back yet.

  12. I'm feeling great. Down a total of 37 lbs since I started my pre-op. 15 lbs since surgery 9/1/09. So life is great. I go for my first fill tomorrow. I'm glad you are feeling better. Take care.:smile2:

Amanda, You, soco and Gen were are our first September bandsters. It's wonderful how much weight you three have lost. Do you have to do Clear Liquids before and after your fill? Let us know how it goes!

Havent posted in a while,, I was banded on the 15th and I think Im doing fairly well. Having a hard time not advancing myself to mushies.. supposed to wait until wednesday. Scary thing though on Saturday night I looked down at my bandages and they were full like a balloon with this yucky pinkish Fluid and I called my surgeon and he said I had a seroma which is basically a build up of fluid that started to leak through a pinhole in the incision. I've had to keep a kotex taped to my belly for two days now. Anyone experiencing this? Or I am the only lucky one...

    Hows everyone else?

I only had leakage the first couple days it was bright red blood but still scary and yuck! You were banded day before me and I am almost completely healed, i have only 2 tiny scabs left. That seroma sounds terrible, did he say how long it will last?

    Hi everyone:

I had my surgery in Sept 22nd. I am feeling good except low energy level. I guess that is to be expect being on the liquid post op diet.

Anni80: I am just the opposite. I am afraid to move on to anything. (I am still in the liquid 2 weeks post op).

Sorry about your seroma. That sounds yucky.

    Have a great day guys.

    Pickles

Pickles, My walking has really helped keep my energy. Plus my doctor told me to increase my Protein which made a big difference. I agree about staying with the liquids as long as you feel satisfied, it does help your weight loss. But don't let yourself feel too hungry, it will eventually lead to poor choices. It is better to add some mushies if your not feeling satisfied by the liquids.:smile2:

  13. good morning everyone:biggrin:

Since yesterday, I woke up and realized almost all of my soreness is gone, tuesday I will be 2wk postop. The gas has gotten tons better, strange how that seemed to happen overnight, and I lost another pound! God is great!:smile2:

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE BEING BANDED TODAY!

  14. Hi hope everyone is doing good...I am still having gas and runny green stuff (I know TMI) I have been taking gas x for the whole 9 days post op. I emailed my dr and I'm waiting for a response.

My port site is still hurting but I hear it last 4-6 weeks, so hang in there.

I still have gas and spending a fortune on the gasX (it does help) and I walk alot which is also helping with the gas. Although my doctor has given me the ok to add a few foods, i havent moved on yet, because everytime i try the gas is worst. so just be patient, each of us is different and I think that gas will be part of our lives now and then.

My port site is sore, i can feel pulls when i bend a certain way, or sleep on that side. But it feels better each day.

I was banded on Sept 21st. I am still experiencing gas and I am very tired. Does anyone know when this will end?? I feel depressed and my family is not supportive.

My husband has been a prince through all of this and I have only told a very select few members of my family. I just didn't want anyone looking at me like some sort of science project in a test tube LOL. I have gotten my support from this website and all of you guys going through the same problems and feelings.

As far as being tired, force yourself to walk. I never feel like doing it, but i make myself get out there every morning and I feel so much better afterwards. Are you taking a multi Vitamin? B Vitamins? :(

  15. Well...........i'm worried. I have having port site pain, and redness. It's also hard and warm to the touch. I'm not running a fever or feeling sick. My port site just hurts alot.

I am going to the doctor on Tuesday, I hope they don't have to remove the port.............if I have an infection and they have to remove the port then i'm just going to have everything removed. I'm not going to chance getting another infection. THIS SUCKS

Don't throw in the towel yet. My port site is still sore to the touch. You don't have a fever, maybe it is just taking longer to heal, everyone heals at their own rate. I hope you can keep you band, your doing so well with your weightloss!:scared2:

  16. OK so at my post-op appt the doctor said I could move on to regular foods and I have been doing good, until tonight. I was eating some chicken that I had boiled so it was nice and tender, I also had bell pepper and onions in it. Well i guess I was not eating slow enough but I had a pepper and it got stuck and let me tell you that is the worst feeling. TMI but they are not lying about the foam that comes back up. It was nasty so after about 5-10 minutes it finally passed and I was able to finish my meal. Let's just say I really focused on chewing and eating more slowly. Moral of the story, we may not have restriction but things will still get stuck, so chew, chew, chew and eat slowly. Take care guys and remember me at your next meal so you will head my warning. Bye guys. Til tomorrow.:scared2:

Amanda, I am soo skeered of this happening. I ate some chicken last night and I swear a must of spent about 15 mins chewing one little bit, overkill I'm sure. Peppers are gassy and fiberous, they probably require more chewing than most, i would think.

I started exercising at 12 days post-op, hiking/running for 45 mins. I do it at least every other day, but would like to do more.

You can see what a difference exercise makes when you log your calories. ! :)

That is a huge difference when you are already eating so few calories (compared to the old days I mean).

Gen ~I agree! We are already eating such low calories, I don't think any of us can cut anymore calories, the only thing we can do to expedite weight loss is EXERCISE. I am walking but only 10 days post op and I don't think I want to try running just yet, think I will try to add some light jogging next week.

hey everyone. was banded yesterday. did well other than when they gave me morphine, it make me nauseated. so they gave me reglan and that seemed to help. not alot of gas. have 5 incisions and really there is only pain on the left. side. but trying to walk. keeping small amnts of Water down. very pleased so far.

Leigna~ I am so glad you are doing well. Like Amanda said, try the popcicles, they helped me too!

    I'm banded!! 9/23!!

I am doing pretty well...some pain and discomfort, but overall I think pretty well.

?? for those of you banded....I have major pain in my band area and stomach area after I drink water or sip Soup or anything....I had the barium swallow yesterday and saw liquid go through no problem....is this just gas pain??

    Thanks

Pookie~I get that tightness/pain if I drink/eat too much too fast. Have to sip very slowly and wait a little while between sips. I am still having gas pains with all the walking I'm doing and the GasX is definately helping.

    HAPPY TGIF EVERYONE!

  17. I haven't been checking my blood sugars since technically, I don't have diabetes. Well I check it and it was 58. I think this may be my problem so I called my LAP-BAND®® physicians and asked if I have something sweet cause I know that's dangerous. At first they didn't want to answer but their nurse called back and told me to get some juice or a piece of candy. My regular physican has yet to call.

Hang in there everyone is different. But try not to give up on the walking, you really need it!

  18. I am just now starting to feel like I can do something more than walking (still no weights or anything) but elliptical I can do - about to be 2 weeks post op. I liked the emails sparkpeople sends there was one about working out in the AM which i really HATE to do but I should read that email daily and maybe I will motivate!

I LOVE the www.sparkpeople.com emails as well! They are so inspirational! They don't bombard you will pages of info at one time. They send you daily emails with little inspirational type tips and educational, but very uplifting. I have learned so much from them.

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE BEING BANDED TODAY!
