Rationale behind not drinking before you eat??

My doctor told me that he doesn't care if I drink 30 seconds before I eat. The liquid passes right through. He told me to make sure I am not drinking my calories. As long as I don't eat and drink at the same time. The liquid helps the solid food pass through the band and you will be hungry again. He told me if I drink before I eat, I won't be thirsty while I am eating. He also said to wait at least 1 hour after I eat to drink again.

9/2/2009 Status Report for August Bandits!

I was banded on 8/17, and I am doing good. I have a total lost of 16lbs. I can really tell by my clothes. Some of my pants I can take off without even unbuttoning them. WOO HOO!!! I was worried about my port incision not healing like the smaller ones, but it like overnight it started looking better. Started putting Bio-Oil on my incisions, to minimize the scarring. No pain at all. Even did a few sit-ups yesterday. Started eating low fat, low sugar items on this passed Monday which was labor day. Doing ok. Experienced my first bout of something being stuck today. Tried to eat a chicken wing. It was very uncomfortable. Shouldn't have been trying to eat it anyway. Never again. I don't wish that discomfort on anyone.

    What is wrong here??

My doctor told me you are really not using your pouch when you are on the liquids stage, because liquids flow right through. So that's probably why you are not feeling full. He said I wouldn't see any real weight lost until after my first fill.

    How long until first fill?

I had my surgery 8/17....Post-op visit 8/24.....First Fill 9/23.....Can't wait!
  11. Like Cindy and Kwright, I had my surgery on the 17th, and have been feeling weak and shaky while in the clear liquid stage. My doctor didn't tell me I could have protein shakes, so I have stayed away from them. I have on more day of clear liquids, then on Monday I start mushies(anything I can mash with a fork). I had been having some back pain. Either it was gas or me sleeping to much on my back. I am a side sleeper. Its not as bad as it was. Now I can lay comfortably on my right side. Even though I prefer the left but I am still a little uneasy about that side due to the port. I am having a hard time getting in all my water. This is nothing new, before the band I would try to dring 80oz a day and couldn't get it in. So that is something I will continue to work on. I know I have lose some weight, but not sure how much. I rather not use the scale I have at home, due to it being such a big difference than the one at the doctor's office. I have my post-op appointment on Monday, so I will see what my lose have been then.

    who is starting mushies??

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I start mushies on Monday, and I can't wait. I was not sure if I was going to make it on these liquids. I am going to take all of the things you guys are eating in consideration.
  13. Here is a summary of my surgery day: Woke up about 6:30am went to the restroom and realized my cycle was starting. Oh Damn! Checked in the hospital at about 7:45 wasn't supposed to be there til 8:00. So I was just a little bit early. Did all my preregistration paperwork and paid co-pay (only $100.00). Got some blood drawn and a urine sample, guess they wanted to make sure I wasn't with child. Called by the nurse around 8:30 his name was Cary very loud and funny guy. Got me undress. I asked Cary if I could keep my undies on due to my cycle starting. He said the OR nurse was probably going to make me take them off. He was like we will just put some towels down. I'm like I dont think so!! Then along came Nurse Sandra to give me my IV. She didn't do to bad. Then came the anestigologist Dr. Carimichael he asked me alot of questions and told me he was going to have one of his nurses give me a cocktail and that they were going to put a tube down my throat and in my nose to control my breathing. Then in came my doctor, Dr. Marvin with his good looking tail . He asked me if I was ready and signed off on my chart. The OR nurse Brandi came in on introduced herself. I asked her about the panties and she said they usually like for you to be bare but we can pull then down. I was like yes thank you Jesus. In come Patricia, she was a very small lady with purple eyeshawdow on that matched her surgery hat. She was going to deliver the cocktail:drool:. She was like I going to give you something that's going to make you sleepy. I don't remember anything after that. Not even being wheeled out or saying good bye to my hubby. When I woke up I was in recovery. Once they moved me to my room, which was very nice. I was in and out. My nurse Albert was coming in every 15mins to check my vitals. He told me I would be there until I drinked some of my Clear liquids and walked. The chicken broth wasn't that bad. It actually had alot of flavor :hurray:. I was discharged around 6:00pm. Got home around 6:45 showered and walked around the house a bit. I have had minimal pain. Haven't had to use any of the meds yet. But believe me, I have them on stand by. I have been burping alot so I guess that's good. Trying to sip some Water every few minutes. It hasn't been bad. Luck me I have a hubby who wants to wait on me hand and foot:tt1:. But I tell him it good for me to get out the bed and go do somethings myself. So good luck to you guys who haven't been banded yet. Hope your experience is just as well as mines:thumbup:.

Banded Aug 10th - just tired...

Mrsparker621, Until your incisions heals I recommend you wear a sports bra. I have a few friends that tried them and said they were more comfortable than a regular bra.
