One month preggo and band not working!
k-baby replied to als74's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
HI, may I ask how you are going with your pregnancy and band? I am 8 weeks and have found I can eat a lot of food, especially late in the day. I am a bit worried that I may be stretching my pouch but I often feel hungry. Just looking for more insight from others who have been through this with the band. Also struggling to figure out what I can safely eat that also sits well with my band. Would love to hear from you. -
Pregnant & Constantly Nauseated
k-baby replied to JustBreathe's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
My sister had horrible "morning" sickness throughout her pregnancy - she found some relief with regular chiropractic visits - I have no idea why but the adjustments had a big impact on the otherwise constant illness. Just a thought - good luck with the last few weeks. -
Early prego symptoms or lap band issues?
k-baby replied to dragonflylover's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
How did you go? Did you find out if you were pregnant? I find if I have a stuck episode, the next day I am always a bit sore and achy. I am 8 weeks pregnant and I have been surprised how much I can eat - my band seems to have loosened, or perhaps my pouch is bit more stretchy with all of these hormones? Not sure but am having some trouble with stomach acid, luckily no vomiting though. Good luck - hope it was good news for you. -
Sternum (Chest) Pain, Shortness of Breath, and 5 Hours at the ER
k-baby replied to Acadia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope you feel better now. If it happens again ask them to check your Gall Bladder - sounds similar to my gall bladder pain - I thought I was having a heart attack initially and then it bacame more localised and intense. -

6 months banded and having pain
k-baby replied to good4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck with your surgery - I am sure it will go well and then no more pain. -
I think I would explain it as "not the solution for everybody". My band has been a great tool but it is not a solution to my eating habits and emotional sabotage. It does not force me to be 'good' but when I am bad, at least it stops the extremes that I can go to - that is why it is simply a tool for me. I still have to put in all of the effort that I would with any other healthy eating and exercise plan. Despite all of my research and knowledge beforehand, I think I did hope my band would be the final answer or solution to my food problems but it will never be that. As was previously mentioned unless you can find the strength to do the work, it will not be a "solution" to any problem. Must say though when I am in the right space and have it working well, it really does work well for me - just wish I could master that all of the time.

6 months banded and having pain
k-baby replied to good4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree - sounds like Gallstones. I had intense pain, tight chest, aching back and stabbing pain under my rib cage slightly to the right. They couldn't find any stones and then later found the bile duct had become infected, the pain was horrible - so I whole heartedly agree with lv2bgoing, get it checked sooner rather than later. Worst case scenario - need an operation but it is very simple, little pain and immediate results :-) goodluck -
I agree with Elcee - I had similar when I got a stomach bug - the vomiting (with nothing coming up) was gut wrenching, literally and so very painful. Unfortunately mine lasted 12 hours and despite the anti-nausea drugs I was taking, it would not stop. I was fine a day later though. Hope all works out well - I would say if the vomiting has stopped then perhaps give yourself 12 hours to recover?

is this pain normal??
k-baby replied to hopefulmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sore for quite a while where they had stitched the band into my stomach and around my port site. Give yourself a little time to heal - you did have pretty major surgery a few days ago. I felt fine within myself a couple of days post op but I over did it a few times and left myself in a little pain because I over estimated my healing powers - was about 3 weeks before I was truly fighting fit. Good luck. -
confused one week out

Perhaps you could try some soup? I found the protein soups tasted a lot better and still had the same nutritional value. -
Weight loss pattern - curious
k-baby replied to Froggie D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am trying to picture what you mean but I am having a bit of trouble and must admit I am giggling a bit in the process :-) I definitely go through stages where I feel like my stomach is flattening and then other days/weeks where it seems to be bulging again. I usually just put it down to fluid retention but I am not really sure what the actual reason is. Sorry I am of no help :-) Good luck finding an answer. -
Nausea and Vomiting post-op
k-baby replied to hondahina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been nauseated a couple of times in the last year but very infrequently. Doctor sent me home from hospital with some anti-nausea tablets - I am still using the same prescription - that is how often I need them :-) I did not have any vomiting until the first time I got stuck which was a few months in and now I only vomit when stuck which is not very often and only if I eat too fast or am not paying attention properly. Non banded people have asked me about vomiting a few times but it really is not an issue for me at all. Good luck with your surgery. -
I'm even a failure at the band (vent)!!!(HELP PLZ)
k-baby replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is so frustrating - I know how annoyed I get when I am stuck in a bit of a hole but I have seen results in the long term which makes it easier for me to work through those periods. Can I ask what types of foods you are eating? I have not lost any weight for 3 months but I have been eating a lot of unhealthy foods - I often fool myself saying that I am only eating a small amount, which is true but it is still too much to lose weight. Also, do you have any support network to help you focus on your eating? They say 70% of dieting is the food that you eat. I have had success with a protein rich diet, takes a couple of weeks of willpower but after that the cravings really seem to disappear. Aside from that, perhaps try something really different, Reiki or Accupuncture - just a different focus for a little while - might just jump start you? Good luck -
Are you eating enough?
k-baby replied to KayleighsMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make sure that I have one or two protein shakes a day - I buy the premade yummy ones that I can carry in my handbag and easily take to work. I find that gives a few extra calories and helps up my protein intake (as this has been an issue for me, particularly relating to hair loss). This might be an option for you? -
Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!
k-baby replied to amey_idaho's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sounds a bit rough Amey - my doctor only required clear liquids for 2 days and then onto other liquids for a week, getting thicker into the second week. So I was well and truly onto protein shakes by day 4 and didnt have any problems with that. I am surprised they make you wait that long but I guess better safe than sorry. Good luck -
Pain under left rib!!!! OUCH
k-baby replied to jen36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I eat a bit too much I get a pain like you describe - and I think it is because I have stretched my pouch a little and get like a pinching, stretched muscle sensation. I have had my band about a year - have only felt this in the last 6 months or so, I think there are times when I am a bit complacent. Have you been on liquids so far? If you are moving to more solid foods it may have caused a bit of stretching and pulling. -
Some Post Surgery Questions
k-baby replied to MinnesotaNiceGuy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband was banded about 3-4 weeks ago. He also suffered from the bad breath, we didnt notice that when I was banded, but when he started moving onto things other than protein it helped - vegetable juices, soup etc. He also moved quite quickly to mashed potatoes, fine minced meat, dahl and very thin curries - this helped fill him up and eased the bad breath. For both of us - chicken breast can be difficult unless very small and in some sort of sauce. I also find meats cooked in caseroles, curries etc are easier to eat. I find that many meats are a bit stringy for me so unless they are cooked down well, I can get stuck. I like all veggies, cooked preferably and just chewed well :-) Good lcuk -
I think we all get seduced by the scales - especially after the initial excitement when they start going down - but it is frustrating when they get stuck in one spot :bored: I think you have answered your own questions already - post op is a funny time and our bodies do take time to heal. I would guess that you are still pretty bloated and may well be retaining fluid, will probably get constipated etc - fun times :-) My advice - try and be patient - which can be really really hard. Day to day feels like a snail pace but in hindsight the past year and past 100lbs have gone by really quickly. I wish you the very best of luck on your journey.

Galbladder Issues and question
k-baby replied to Pam92's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you go from a high fat diet to a low fat diet your gut needs less bile to help break down the fatty food - your gall bladder stores bile and so when it is being used less, you are more likely to develop gall stones - if these start moving around and potentially block ducts, that is when the pain occurs. -
Galbladder Issues and question
k-baby replied to Pam92's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gall bladder removed several years ago after a lot of pain and a blocked bile duct - the pain was incredible at that point - only wish my doctor had detected the problem earlier. This is a good thing, your doctor is being proactive and fingers crossed will save you potential pain later. Gall stones are painful, the test and operation are a breeze :-) Good luck. -
need help getting 60 grams of protein, hair starting to thin.
k-baby replied to mandze90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you said you don't like Cottage Cheese, but I add just a little bit of yummy full flavoured salad dressing, ranch or caesar and mix it through. Tastes so much better and as you only use a teaspoon it is low in calories and fat - full fat versions tend to have less sugar and less calories so splurge on a teaspoon of the real stuff :-) -
Know of any good books to read?
k-baby replied to Heathan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really enjoyed Jon Gabriel's "The Gabriel Method" and Geneen Roth's "Women, food and God". I would also suggest anything that uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Have fun. -
I've been banded since 11/08 and not doing so well..help!!
k-baby replied to eastcoastgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the perfect solution - a brain transplant!!!!!! If you find a doctor who does it, please let me know because I NEED one  Seriously though, I try to brainwash myself with healthy eating messages by reading as many self help books as I can, as often as possible - I find it helps me a lot, but I have to keep at it because the moment I stop, I seem to slide backwards. So, my advice, make time for yourself each day to do whatever makes your heart sing - I know much easier said than done and I am definitely a hypocrite regarding this at the moment - but I think most people would agree that when we make time to look after ourself we succeed in all areas of life. Now if only I would take my own advice :-)
