I just began the whole testing process and got a call yesterday to book my " sleep apnea" test. I am almost positive I do not have it , but what do I know. I am not too excited about leaving my 11 month old and husband to sleep at some hospital...but I guess this is apart of the whole process. Did anyone else have to take this test, and if so how was there experience? Thanks everyone

I have united healthcare. I have called them 2x to ask them about there coverage with lap band. They told me as long as my Dr says that its neccessary and I meet there requirements its covered. It sounded too easy. I am so nervous that I am going to go through all of these tests and then they will say sorry its not covered. I am wondering if anyone else has dealt with United Health?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone goes through united healthcare and how long it took them to get approved? I have already called them twice to see if I had to do something and they said it is my surgeon/dr that needs to provide them with all the information. I started all of my tests this week...I am scared they will deny me but they did say the cover the surgery as long as the doctor deems its neccesary. Scared...:thumbup:

Hello everyone, I am starting the Lap Band Post Operative testing as we speak. I am wondering if anyone is working with Dr Siva Vithiananthan? I met with him at the Lap Band seminar and he seemed very educated, down to earth, and straight forward and this is why I chose him. I just finished up all the blood work, and have my sleep apnea test next week, and the rest of the testing throughout the month of July. My Dr said I will then meet with him the first week of AUG to book the Surgery!!! I have the sleep apnea test, Upper GI test, Stress Test, more blood work, Endoscopy, and Psych evalutation and I have to say I am nervous mostly about the Psych Evalutaion and Endoscopy so if anyone could give me peace of mind I would greatly appreciate the support! I called my health insurance company and they said they cover the surgery as long as the Dr says its neccessary,I called twice just to make sure because I am so nervous lol, I am wondering if I should call again? I wonder how quick all of this is going to happen? I am so excited for the begining of some major changes! Thanks everyone :thumbup: Thanks everyone,

Questions for everyone out there! I have a million and appreciate all the information you have. Well first off I am wondering if everyones doctor gave them an option of lap band versus the gastric bypass? My doctor told me that I am a canidate for either one. I am 5'1 and weight 225lbs. Honestly, I never really considedered gastic bypass, but when he mentioned it as an option it made me rethink things a little bit. I think the lap band may be a better choice for me because I do want more children; I have one daughter and I am 26. I feel as if the lap band is less intrusive and obviousy less dangerous, faster recovery etc. I am also curious at how long the process will take. I have heard it varies, but I am wondering how many tests I will take etc. I got all my blood work done yesterday and then he said I will come in in two weeks and as long as the tests are okay we will book the surgery, but it seems to easy?!? Thanks everyone!

PSYCH EVALUATION??? I booked it today and it is 3 hours...are you serious...then you have to go back the same day for a follow up...What are we possibly going to do in that amount of time??? And what if I fail??? I thought that I saw some people have the psych evaluation and they said it was no big deal they just prepare you emotionally for the surgery. I am also nervous because I am on anti anxiety medication , I was put on it after I had my daughter ..so what if they think I am crazy !!!! Can anyone make me feel better??? Thanks,

LOL you are hysterical. First night for my hubby too! I am so nervous, however I guess there is nothing that will hold me back regarding this surgery!!! I have all my tests scheduled over the next three weeks, it is going to be CRAZY. Has anyone had the Psych evaluation...3 hours...then you have to go back the same day for another 30 minutes??? What if I dont pass...what does it entail..I am far more nervous about this than the sleep apnea test!!!

'Hello again, I do not mean to pry into your business but how tall are you , because we weigh about the same except my BMI is 43 I believe. I am 5'1 and weight 226lbs. The Surgeon did not seem to concerned with my insurance so, we'll see I am praying that they will approve. Thanks

Congratulations!!! I am so happy that everything has been going as smooth as possible. I have to ask you how your whole " process " went as far as time? I just began mine and of course I am so anxious I just would love to be given a date lol. :thumbup: I have United Health and I am not really sure how they are regarding paperwork etc. Good luck keep up the good work and I hope your recovery is speedy!

Can I ask you what type of insurance you have? I just went in last week for my preop appt with the surgeon. I finished my blood work, I just got a call yesterday for a sleep apnea test I have to do ( overnight) I am not too excited about doing that one. It has been about a week and a half since the whole process started and it seems asif things are moving fast but I am jsut wondering how long it usually takes for all of these tests etc. I am nervous, excited, and scared because I am afraid my insurance wont approve me, even though they said all they need is paperworkfrom the doctor. Honestly at first I felt a little nervous and I thought he may not take me seriously because of my age etc. However, he listened to me , told me about each procedure and what to be expected. It sort of seemed as if he was wanted me to go with Gastric bypass versus the Lap band but I am really leaning towards the lap band. I am 5'2 and 226lbs, and 26. I do want to have more children and I just feeel as if Gastric bypass is not something I want to undergo. I know its more invasive, more recovery, etc. ANY suggestions? I recently just began all of the pretesting. I got allmy blood work taken last week which confirmed my diabetes which I am currently taking medication for, and I found out that I am anemic which is not too much of a big deal. H I called my insurance company today and they said they just need the Dr to send in the paperwork before they approve it etc however they said it is covered for medical purposes. Wow, Aivey it really seems like the process has been pretty smooth for you! I am excited to hear that considering I have UHC as well. When I was at the Dr's they just made things seem so simple..I dont know if thats a bad thing or a good thing lol. Well anyways, congratulations and keep us updated, your blog is great!

Wow, sounds like its been a rather speedy process for you?!? How long has it taken to get this rolling. I am curious, I had all my blood work done yesterday.

Hello everyone, I had my first appt today, with the DR approving me for the surgery. I am super excited. I already called my insurance and they said the surgery is covered, they better not be lieing. I feel like this is too good to be true! I am wondering how long it will take before I have the surgery? Anyone know .

Hello everyone, I had my first appointment today with my DR and he told me I am a great canidate for the LAPBAND. I am so relieved, excited, and nervous. Know I am curious to how long the process takes. I have heard from some people it can take as long as 6 months and others have said it has taken weeks. I am scheduled for blood work tomorrow and they said it will take about two weeks to get all the results back. The DR said I will then see his assistant and as long as the tests are okay we will schedule the operation...but I dont know if he was sugar coating everything. I did call my insurance and they said I would be approved for the operation.

Hello everyone, Im new to this....but Congrats to all who got approved! I had my first PRE OP appt today and my DR said I am a good canidate...I go for bloodwork tomorrow morning and then I have an appointment in two weeks with the DR again..Can anyone tell me what I am in for? When will I get a surgical date?
