This Freakin band is working
Rutiglius replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Rustypup, do you mind me asking why it was so long for your first fill? You certainly have done well without one! -
This Freakin band is working
Rutiglius replied to fatgirlinNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How great for you!! That gives me hope! I go in for my 2nd fill tomorrow and am hoping for more restriction. I definitely eat less than I did before surgery, but am a LONG way from my sweet spot. -
I can see why people cheat....
Rutiglius replied to SummerAgain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ah...pizza. It called to me, whispered to me, SHOUTED at me. The funny thing is, before my surgery, I could have cared less about pizza! Now that I am free to eat regular foods, it hasn't been a big craving either! -
Hooray!!! It doesn't matter that you are "barely there" as you say...the important thing is YOU ARE THERE!!!

7 weeks for first fill is this normal?!?!
Rutiglius replied to lisafire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds pretty normal. I was banded on June 24, and received my first fill on August 11. -
What exactly is sliming?
Rutiglius replied to urs9999's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep -- you slimed. It is the mucous that helps our food "slide" down. When it is blocked, it has to go somewhere...so up and out! -
How soon before you sleep on the port side?
Rutiglius replied to scotth24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a side sleeper and so I slept on my port side the very first night. However, I did "cuddle" a pillow to help take the pressure off -- that really helped. -
What do Pb's feel like?
Rutiglius replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my first PB and Sliming experience -- not pleasant. For me, the "stuck" feeling was almost in my throat. It felt like I really needed to burp. The need became so overwhelming that I went to the sink and tried to burp. What came up was foamy mucous-like "slime". After several episodes of this, I "burped" up a small piece of bread -- instant relief! Prior to this episode, I would have that stuck feeling, but had been able to burp and the food would go down -- like you mentioned. The PB episode was more painful and included the sliming. -
Whether you can have carbonated beverages depends on several things...your surgeon, how well you tolerate them, and how far out you are from surgery. I have been told that many people don't process the gas very well and it can be painful and stretch out your pouch.

Sheesh...I am no medical professional of any kind, but it seems to me that green pus cannot be a normal or good thing. What is up with these doctors???

When was your first....
Rutiglius replied to lsprrnbr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill on Tuesday, August 11. I was used to absolutely NO restriction, so wasn't paying too close attention to eating SLOWLY. I was chewing well, but eating too fast. Anyway, on Friday (the 14th), I slimed and PB'd a tiny piece of bread -- learned my lesson about bread! -
For those who had only "same day" surgery.....
Rutiglius replied to SummerAgain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I arrived at 6:30 AM, surgery at 9:30, barium swallow at 1:30, discharge by 3:00. I was sleepy and they just let me sleep. That was wonderful! -
7.5 pounds away from ONEDERLAND!
Rutiglius replied to keepingfaith08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats to everyone!! I am about 8 pounds away too -- CANNOT WAIT! -
I hate, "big-boned"! WTH is that??? My bones are my bones...what's "big" is the FAT hanging off them!!

I have just been going along my merry way with no problems. Today is the first day that I ate bread since my fill. I didn't even think about it. I was in my classroom getting ready for school to start and I was about 3/4 the way through a small sandwich when I got that "stuck" feeling. Prior to today, when I felt stuck, I could wait it out and the food would go down -- NOT THIS TIME! It started out like normal...discomfort with the urge to burp. However, this time I felt like it needed to come up. Thankfully, I made it to the sink in my room. I started sliming like crazy and then sort of "coughed-up" a tiny little piece of bread! I swear it sounded like my cat coughing up a fur-ball! I just felt lucky that no one was around to see me sliming. They would have thought that they just walked into a showing of The Exorcist. The moral of this sad tale...chew, chew, slow, slow!!

Yep...Sliming and PB...it happened!
Rutiglius replied to Rutiglius's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
PB is "productive burp". Basically, what goes down...comes up! Sliming is when foamy, slimy mucous comes up too -- GREAT FUN -- NOT! -
Dan, Getting adequate Water in will help with this too! I had the same problem and felt like I was just too full to eat. I had to be on liquids after my fill and I really downed a lot of water during that time. That seemed to "move" things along for me! If you are getting enough liquids in, you might want to give your Dr. a call to make sure it isn't anything else.

In need of support
Rutiglius replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! You probably already know this, but upping my Protein and Fiber keeps me full much longer. I too am struggling with head hunger and REAL hunger, as I don't have much restriction yet. When I get in that "munchie" mood, I grab a piece of turkey and wrap it around a low-fat cheese stick. When I get into a "sweet" mood, I drink something sweet, but sugar free, or eat a sugar free fudgcicle (only 40 cals) or SF pudding. Yeah, it's NOT what I really crave (french fries and ice-cream), but it gets me through! The biggest thing for me is to just try and get through one day at a time. I tell myself that I can hold out for just a few hours until THIS day is over. Good luck! I know you can do it until the 19th -- only a few days away!! -
Hooray for you! What an assuming little heifer she was!
-
I have to say I was a little nervous about getting my first fill -- not knowing what to expect -- BUT it was fine! I didn't feel a thing. The NP had no problem finding the port. So far, so good!
-
I don't know why the beer didn't bother you. I can do soda and it doesn't bother me. I haven't tried beer (don't care for it).

This is a hard one for me too because I LOVE popcorn and my DH always has to have it. Last time we went I took some sea-salted almonds. Not as good as popcorn, but it gave me protein and something to crunch on!

Eating ALL THE TIME
Rutiglius replied to <3 Phoebe <3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Phoebe, I am six weeks out with no fill and can eat at will. I do know that drinking while you eat allows you to eat more and not feel as full. This is because the liquid helps food pass into the lower stoma. I have better luck staying full longer if I don't drink while eating. Also, it is pretty normal for the port incision to be tender. The port is "tacked" into place into the muscle. Any time the muscle is involved, it can take longer for the soreness to go away. Good luck! -
Beautiful posts! It is so hard for us to love ourselves.

Anyone else NOT have to be on preop diet?
Rutiglius replied to kimber1701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had a five-day pre-op diet. I was told to just restrict my carbs and fats. I just ate a lot of high protein foods.
