Hello! I am looking to begin Massage Therapy classes at a local community college. I am really excited about getting a certificate in massage therapy, I just had a few questions about the field if anyone would like to share! Have a great day!

Some advice for pre-bandsters/new bandsters! - Probably a repeat!
Veggestyle replied to Cheri's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great idea! I was thinking about taking the before photos and obvioulsy the number that is on the scale is looming over me, but I never would have thought to take my measurements! Genious! -
My general doctor, PCP, requested to see me since I was considering WLS and asking her to send in medical info. to my insurance company. I was a little nervous going in today since her nurse did not specifically state why she wanted to see me, but I had some idea. It is not terribly easy talking with my doc about the WLS since she is a very "traditional, old school" doctor and has very little experience with WLS. Usually, my doc. is rather understanding and supportive, but during our discussion today about WLS she was rather distant. I think it is time to find a new PCP, especially since I moved quite a bit away from the doc. and it would be nice to have a doc. that knows more about WLS, since it is a life long change. I shared with her info. that I received from the hospital I would be getting my surgery at. All she really had to say was how she was concerned about the risks, and really did not say, but the risks of being obese....She checked my thryoid too since that is a big concern since my sister having thyroid cancer, all seemed to be well there. I shared with her my dieting history and problems that my fat is causing me, which at this point is mostly emotional, and some joint aches. Truly, I am concerned about the long term risks and effects of my excess weight. She wants me to get some blood work done before she writes a letter to the insurance company for me. She said that she wants to check my blood sugar and thyroid levels along with my cholesteral. At the end of the appt. she said that she will help me through it. The doctor also shared with me that perhaps the Paxil that I am on could be causing me to gain weight. We looked through the records have I have gained nearly 40 lbs in a year since I have been taking Paxil, eeeek! However, i can't go off of Paxil, so I guess we wont really know, unless there is another anxiety medicine I can take. :rolleyes

:help: Hello All! I need your advice and opinions!!!:jaw: I just called my regular doctor yesterday to talk with her about me considering having the lapband surgery done. I trust her professional advice and opinions...however I do feel that she lacks experience with the band, considering the fact that she told me she NEVER has had a patient go through the procedure. She told me that she feels that the RISKS of the surgery outweigh *no pun intended* the LONG-TERM weightloss experience from this surgery. She said that more than likely the stomach will just stretch to compensate and you will be right were you where before... She also said that she would hate to see "someone so young" *I am 23* to go through this "drastic" procedure in order to try and lose weight... What do you all think of that? Are there any LONG-TERM bandsters that can give me some inspiration??

Well, I am going to see my PCP today... I was not told specifically why she wants to see me so I am a bit nervous about that, but I hope it is a meaningful appt. since I have to drive over an hour to get there. I am going to bring the info. with me that I have on the lapband surgery. Wish me luck and thanx for your support!

I was wondering if insurance covers fills. If not, how much can I expect to pay for each fill? Danke!

Lately, I am having trouble sleeping. I fall asleep easily and then around 1 or 2 am, I am wide awake and usually dont feel that well. I wouldnt call myself a worry wort, instead I think I internalize what I worry about and then it "gets" me in ways like this. :cry I am worried about going back to teaching in a few weeks. I have been trying my damndest to find a new job, but to no avail so far. I had an interview a few days ago that went really really well, but with no luck... I am worried about keeping on top of my bills, I am a recent homeowner and am still getting the hang of it all. I am worried about making this life changing decision to have the band. To be or not to be banded? I have called to make the appt. for the consult with the surgeon three times...and have hung up three times as well...oh dear

Hello All! I live about 1 1/2 hours west of Chicago near NIU campus (just moved here a few months ago and loving it). I am currently working with the bariatric team at Kishwaukee Hospital and am on my journey to be banded, unless I .......back out. my thoughts on having the surgery go up and down every day basically. Have a great day!

What was your general doctor's role???
Veggestyle replied to Veggestyle's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am still wondering why the doctor requested to see me...maybe she has to give me a physical, I just hope that she is not hoping to talk me out of it...I know that my PCP knows rather little of this surgery... I am also questioning her wanting to see me, b/c it is about 1 1/2 hours drive for me to the office... -

Carol--even though your PCP did not support your decision, was he still willing to send in the needed paperwork to your lapband doctor?? -

Quick question...I just found out that the hospital I am planning to have my surgery is "not in my network." What does that mean for me?
-
The surgeon does not require an overnight stay. They check for certain things, such as your ability to walk and go to the bathroom, once you are able to do that you can leave. So really it depends on your body after the surgery.

Yesterday, I attended the mandatory seminar about WLS at the hospital I will have my surgery at. The seminar was rather uneventful and was two hours long! Thanks to this board and other literature, I already knew most of what was presented! However, the interesting part of the seminar is actually where it was located! Now call this irony, but they had us "heard" through the hospital's cafeteria to the meeting room! What is this a sick joke? ha ha, I doubt it, but I found the placement of the meeting rather humurous.

Once Banded, How Much Weight Did You Lose In The First 2 Months?
Veggestyle replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really appreciate this thread. It is interesting to see how everyone is so different with the band. -
I spoke with my insurance company again yesterday...I have a feeling I will be talking with them quite a lot! I was told that whether or not the hospital is "in-network" if the procedure is considering "out-patient" it will be covered 100%!!! The difference lies in if for some reason I have to say at the hospital at soon the "out-patient" procedures becomes an "in-patient" procedures, my insurance will only cover 65% as opposed to 80% if it were in network. At this point, my hospital considers the lapband to be an "out-patient." I guess I just better make sure I get to go home!
-
I really hope that everything gets better for you. You deserve to have the weightloss success just as much as everyone else. Do you think it was your lapband surgeon that was the cause of all of this? Take care...
-
Perhaps, I am misunderstanding something, but I think that I need my general doctor to send documents to the insurance company showing that I have been overweight for a extended amount of time. In my position, it seems to me that she is just a "paper-link" to the insurance company. I suppose that I did not have to actually call her and speak to her about it, but I did want to see what she thought. She wasn't unsupportive, per se, I think that she was ignorant to the lapband surgery.

Wow! Thank you for all of the comments! I was feeling discouraged after speaking with her and you all have lifted my spirits so much...Thank you! :hippie:

Living and Working with the Band
Veggestyle replied to Veggestyle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for all of your suggestions and advice! I am also curious about how the pre-op diet goes while at work as well. I know that every pre-op diet differs amongst doctors, but it seems that for most it is strictly liquids for at least 10 tens. How did that work out for all of you? :tea: -
Hello! I am wondering what is it like to work full time with the band? Considering that you have to be very careful about how, when, what you eat...has PBing, or any other type of *minor complications with the band have gotten in your way of working? As a teacher I am really wondering about this...:cry

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate it!
