I have had a band for 12 months and started at 340. I am only down to 298 now, despite my hard work. I am moving forward and getting the sleeve becuase I am tired of living at this weight. I am going to Dr Ortiz in Tijuana in about 6 weeks. I live in Central California and my insurance will only pay for half of the cost here. Paying cash in Mexico is still cheaper and with a lot less hoops to jump through.

FLMA or Leave of Absence question?
bayareanan replied to StephanieG86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only been with my job for 8 months and am having surgery next month. Does this mean I am not eligible for FMLA? -

What does he charge to do the Sleeve? How long did you have to stay in Mexico? -
Sleeve after minimul success with Lap Band?
bayareanan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded for a year and have only lost 40lbs. I now weigh 300lbs. I follow the diet fairly well and exercise and not sure why my loss has been so little. I got banded in Dallas and now live in CA. The doc here suggests I consider the bypass because of the malabsorbtion but I think I would prefer the sleeve. Has anyone else had the sleeve after an unsuccessful band? -
Would you get the band if you had a chance have a "do over"

I started the journey at 340 in October. Here I am almost 1 yr out and I have only lost 40lbs. I eat between 800-1000 cal and walk 1.5 miles 5 days a week. I expected much more. I think I will give it another year and if I still haven't made progress have bypass. I am bipolar and take some weight unfriendly meds. Not sure how much that plays into it. -
I have 7.25 in a 14cc band. My current doc thinks that is enough but I dont think so. I was banded 11 months ago and have only lost 45lbs. In the last 6 months I haveonly lost 10of that amount. The doc who did my surgery wanted to bring me to at least 8 but I moved and had to use the only doc in my new town now. So, how much does everyone else have in this size band?

My insurance will only cover half of any bariatric issues. Having the surgery, office visits and fills. Bummer also

I am bipolar and have been stable for about 8 years. I had my psych evaluation done by my own psychiatist which made the stress level go down. I have had no issues with the band related to mood. My surgeon said sometimes bipolar people have no impulse control, band or no band, but I have not found that to be the case. I am really losing weight much much slower then expected. Not sure if it the meds (Geodon, Lamictal, Trazadone and Zoloft) or if I am going to be the worlds slowest loser. Best of luck. Dont worry about it.

Good work! You said you were unfilled to 7.5. What level fill do you usually have? I am at 7.25 in a 14cc band and my doc wont go tighter.

At what point is i t time to consider golng to a bypass after minimal lapband success
bayareanan posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had the band for 9 months with only losing 40lbs. I started this journey at 340. Now I bounce around 300. I have followed the diet, exercised and consumed more than my share of Water. I am a loss.I have counted every morsel that enters my body but still minimal success. The only thing that may be an issue is that I take anti-psychotics for Bipolar disorder. I can not stop these to see if this would make a positive change. I am going to give it another 3 months, but at that point if I havent had success I am seriously considering getting the Bypass. Am I crazy? -
For the first time since 1992 I weight under 300LBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is so exciting . I thought this day would never come. My first serious goal has been met. Next goal 280. Not sure what I am going to do for a reward, but I did just book a Smokey Mountain vacation during fall colors. That sounds like a good thing to call my treat. HItting 299 has taken me MUCH longer than I expected. But, the fact is I have MADE IT

Dr Victor Gonzales in Dallas did my surgery. I think any surgeon can repair the hernia at the same time as surgery.

I just got my first lab results since I was banded. I am low in Vit B1. Anyone else have this problem?

Taking new meds with weight gain as a side effect
bayareanan replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to take Seroquel for bipolar disorder. I didnt gain any weight on it and was able to lose some weight while on it. I gained my weight on lithium and depakote. Today I take Geodon and Lamictal and am making slow progress towards weight loss. -
I have beenliving with my bachelor son for the last 3 months after a move from TX to CA. I am finally in my new house and have unpacked. I knew my weight loss wasnt going to set the world on fire but I was curious to see where I was finally. I am down 4 lbs! My diet has been very good except for chocolate and wine, and no exercise. I know what I need to do to improve. I really expected more, but I am happy that I didnt gain. At least I have a starting point to move forward from. We did a costco run and I bought tilapia, sliced chicken breast meat and a whole lot of ground turkey. Also a few bags of romaine/spinach mix. I question how much my having Soup or chili at the hospital cafateria at work has influcned this. My old hospital had many healthy choices. Here they are all high in carbs and fat and the vegetables are all dried out and gross. Thus my choices of soup and chilli. This week I will begin taking my lunch to work. Slow losers uniite! ADDED NOTE: I would like to start walking before work but have not yet found my blow drier? Anyone walk in the am with wet hair? While in TX I had an hour commute. Now it is 8 minutes. I still wake up at the same time and would like to make it productive time.

If you go out to eat just order water. It is free and nobody questions that you didn't order anything or drink anything. Plus you have it invade you have a need to wash something down.

What do you do with a disappointing weight loss?
bayareanan posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I weighed in today with a 3 lb weight gain for the last month. Prior to this I lost 6 lbs over 2 weeks. I am naturally disappointed but I was not perfect. How do you regroup after a disappointing weigh in? Me? Imam having wine tonight and will regroup for the next 6week weigh in. -

The son who Tooke to surgery was deployed to Kuwait the week following my surgery so I ble it on the ex. Very frustrating -

How about boxing even if you do it to music. Borring maybe but you can really get your heart rate up. -
I interviewed for a job last July and just started the job in Debussy one of the people I interviewed with said she could see the difference in my face fro Then until now. I still have my old work badge and compared the picture with the new one and I was pleasantly surprised by the difference.
