    Tomorrow is the day!

Tomorrow is my day too. I have to be there at 10am for an 11:30 surgery. I am glad mine is later because I dont have to fight commute traffic which would add an extra hour to the drive. I am not nervous, just anxious for it to be over. Good luck Mishay!
  2. Honk, I had even checked with HR to verify. Texas doesnt have state disability so the program is paid by the employer. I am actually entitled to 6 months medical leave. There is a 2 day waiting period for an illness, but if you were hospitalized (outpatient surgery counts), then there is no waiting period. Plus, it is paid at full salary.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

At my pre-op appt my doc gave me a box of Bariatric Advantage samples. Going to use this for now but will price shop before they are gone.
  4. Woow Hooh! Did you buy the store out or are you still on your journey?
  5. I am a California native living in Frirsco Texas (a suburb of Dallas). Although trained as an RN I have always worked in some form of medical software. I manage the clinical information system at a hospital.

    flu shot

I am required to have it for my job. I work at a hospital and work in IT so I have very little patient contact. I have the choice of geting the shot, or wearing a mask for 6 months until flu season is over. The masks are hot, no way.

    1 month post op

You are doing great!! Recognize that it will likely slow down, but enjoy every pound lost.
  8. I have completed 8 day on my preop diet and have only lost 3 lbs. I have cheated once, having 2 pieces of chese and that was it. I really think I should be further than this and am worried I wont be able to have the surgery because my liver will be too large. I see the doctor tomorrow, wo I will find out then I am sure. I am also concerned that if I cant lose weight now, how am I going to lose it when I start eating real food again. How much do people usually lose on the preop?
  9. My blood pressure used to be 125/80-ish with meds. Even though I havent had surgery yet it is down to 110/80-ish. How low was our bp when your doc had you decrease or totallly stop taking meds?
  10. My copay for the surgeon is $360. I dont have to pay anything above the insurance to the hospital because I work here. No clue what I will have to pay the anestesiologist. I still have to pay for the EDG and Cardiac Clearance which included a stress test. Hopefully I will meet my deductable with some of these charges.

    Huge Milestone!!!

How much exercise do you do now? How about when you first had your band?
  12. I am excited for you on the approval! November sounds like such a long way away. Even after I was approved for surgery I still had to jump through some additional hoops. You may to, and maybe that is why there is such a delay. It will come sooner than you think.

    tests before operation

Yes, I have to get an upper GI as well. He never explained why, and I didnt ask. I also have to get a Cardiolgist clearance because I am over 50. My surgery date is 10/4. I started my 2 week liquid diet on Monday. The first day was rough, but it is ok now, except I feel kind of weak.

    Surgery Date set

I am October 4 also. The first day of the liquid diet was tough. Day two hasnt been as bad, although I woke up feeling dizzy. After a Protein drink the feeling passed. I am glad surgery is on a monday because it will be easier to keep me on the diet that last weekend. I am sure this weekend wont be fun. Atleast during the week work is a good distraction for much of the day.

    Date scheduled 10/1

    Congradulations! I am Oct 4th.
  16. I decided to walk during my lunch hours so I can stay out of the cafeteria at work during my preop. Day one was fine. Day two I got about halfway through and my muscles refused to move. I waited a minute and was able to walk, but didnt walk the same distance as yesterday. I am trying to figure out if this is diet related. I had no soreness after yesterdays walk and it was only about half a mile, but I havent walked in a long time. Going to try again tomorrow and see how it goes
  17. The only thing that could have splenda in it is the sugar free Jello. It will be curious to see what happens tomorrow when I try again. It was like I had run a marathon, but only went less than half a mile.
  18. My aetna approval took one week, and there was a holiday weekend in it. I was pleasantly surprised.
  19. I started my liquid diet today too (surgery 10/4). MIne is 4-5 Protein drinks, clear soup, diet Fruit Drinks, diet Jello and sugar free popsicles. Does anyone know any way to season broth so that it doesnt get so old?
  20. I feel fortunate in the fact that my son will be able to take me to surgery and stay a few days. He is a Sgt in the US Army and just recieved order for 3 years in Germany, including a year in Afganistan. On a selfish note, I will see him before the surgery, then a day over thanksgiving vacation (he is going to the girlfriends family) and I will be able to see him the day he ships out. When I next see him, it will be when I go out for a european vacation in a year or so. He probably wont recognize me!!! While I am concerned about his Afganistan time, I think this is a great duty station for him.
  21. I start my liquid diet on Monday. My surgery date is 10/4. I still have some shopping to do..get clear soups, diet juices. Tonight is my last day of wine and Dr Pepper.

    October 2010 Bandsters!!

crecia1975, My surgeon is Dr Victor Gonzalez and I will be having the procedure at Medical City. I work for the hospital and dont have to pay a deductable if I go there. Dr Gonzalez was the only doctor I found that took my insurance so that is how I made my decision.

My surgery is October 4. My son is in the Army and going to be in the field for a month (he is going to drive me and stay a few days) so the Doctor was kind enough to schedule me quick.
