Struggling w/weight my entire life - as like most, I tried every healthy/unhealthy way to lose weight....Unfortunately, age is not as gracious as it used to be and several other medical issues began arrising warranting medication. My GI system is (hopefully "was") totally messed up and my entire body was taking a toll, due to my weight. My family doctor suggested the Lap Band, however asked me to wait for approximately 6 months in order to have my insurance pay for my surgery. My patience was gone and I was sick of myself; needless to say I was up to 13 pills per day.....AND I'D HAD IT!! I first made plans to go to Mexico....made all of the arrangements, bought the airline tickets for myself and daughter (to escort me).....but chickened out....I then went on the venture for a local surgeon and spoke w/several in my local area. Some said that I wasn't "overweight enough" and wouldn't even listen to my other medical issues and others lived and breathed by the BMI. Fortunately I don't have to lose a tremendous amount of weight, but the weight I do have to lose will significantly improve my overall health. I contacted Dr. Laura Machado's office after reading "everything I could find" that pertained to Dr. Machado and her practice. I spoke w/her medical support staff and made my first appointment after talking w/my Dr. and family. It was all uphill from there.
