    plateau for a month

If it makes you feel any better, I've had my second fill and I'm up to 6cc in my 14cc band and I haven't lost a single ounce since my pre-op diet. I'm eating less and going for a lot more protein, but nothing. I have my third fill on Monday so maybe I'll start to get results soon? But yeah, it's frustrating. I'm right there with you.
  2. I have never been thin in real life. Ever. Even as a child I was quite heavy. And yet, in every single dream I've ever had I've always been thin. Not stick thin, but normal.
  3. So I had my second fill a week ago, and I'm still not feeling any restriction. What did start to happen is stuff has started to get stuck. It was totally my fault: I was eating and somebody asked me a question so I instinctively swallowed to answer and ! Stuck. The piece was bigger than I should have swallowed. So is there a grey zone between the point where stuff starts getting stuck and starting to feel restriction? Does this mean I may start to feel restriction with the next fill?

    Is there a grey zone?

The only reason it got stuck was that I swallowed a big honkin' bite. I am, quite possibly, the slowest eater ever and always have been, so it's not a case of me inhaling the food and eating too much before I realise I'm not hungry anymore. I eat a bit, and I'm still freakin' starving. I'm not looking to feel full, because then I feel like I'm going to puke. I just want my stomach to stop growling! At the moment I can still easily eat more than two cups of food without feeling not hungry anymore, even if I take more than half an hour to eat it. I was just hoping that stuff starting to get stuck occasionally if I swallowed a big bite by accident meant that good restriction was on the horizon. I don't drink shakes or smoothies because I'm completely repulsed by the texture. Thick drinks squick me out.

I did my first filling 12/14/09

5cc on your first fill is very aggressive, even if you have the large 14cc band. I'm not surprised your tummy wasn't happy.

    2nd fill

That does seem like a long time to wait. I had my second fill Wednesday and I was banded on the 19th of October. Now I have 6cc in a 14cc band. Today, every time I eat something not pourable (soup, teas etc) I have this feeling like I'm going to hurl. I think I may be hitting the land of restriction! Strangely enough, I'm still starving...
  7. There was a whole other thread about Barrie which you should check out.

    Bones & "squishiness"

You may not have actually gone up a cup size, you may just now have a bra that fits properly. A 38D and a 40C will usually both fit a person but one will fit a person properly and the other doesn't.

    Before and after Food Budgets

Um... where is this not the norm? Grocery stores in my area have been like this for years. In Toronto it is now legally required for every store to charge 5 cents for a plastic bag... not just grocery stores, every store. At least we get our quarter back if we return the cart, but I don't think I've ever had my groceries carried to the car by somebody who wasn't me in my life.

    Banded in october--updates please

Had my surgery on the 19th of October. Since then I've gained 13lbs and I am a complete and total mess. I didn't really have food obsession issues until after I got the band but now I'm a freakin nut job! I had my first fill last week and I'm having another on Wednesday so hopefully I'll start to get some restriction because I have none at the moment. It basically feels like I never had surgery at all, except for the scars, which are still a wee bit itchy. I'm sure things will improve but, in the meantime, I am avoiding my mother like the plague lest I be on the receiving end of another screaming hissy fit. She let the first one fly a few weeks after my surgery when she realised my weight wasn't dropping like a rock like it did on the pre-op diet. She got all excited and then she was disappointed when reality didn't measure up to her made up expectations.

    Flu and 7up

Why 7up? I can understand ginger ale because ginger soothes the stomach, but 7up hasn't got anything in it that's good for your stomach that I know of. All it is is sugar and water. Try some ginger tea or even just boiled ginger water. Boiled ginger water is a little harsh on the tongue though.

WOW! Ask and you shall receive...

1mL=1cc, or close enough to it not to be worth worrying about the difference. Metric is simple that way, but it's based on pure water at 4C, not saline.
  13. Chronic vomiting is not good, but the occasional hurlage is something the band can take. I too was sick as a dog from the anaethesia. Told the doctor beore hand it would make me puke and she said that it was ok, she'd given me something to prevent that, but as soon as I woke up from surgery:puke:She wasn't too concerned.

    What is dumping exactly?

Those with IBS can also experience dumping, so it's not exclusively a bypass problem. I can tell you from personal experience, it's extremely painful. Basically your body just decides it does not want to deal with the food you've put in one end and sends it out the other end PDQ. I've had entire meals go right through me in 15 minutes or less. Bypass people are a little more predictable when it comes to dumping though as sugars and fats will pretty much always cause dumping. With IBS, a food that is just fine one day makes you sick as a dog the next. I've experienced dumping from just water!
  15. Plus there's that whole PV=nRt problem... any remaining gas they put into you while doing surgery will expand once you take off. That can't be pleasant.
  16. Driving yourself is definitely out. As a passenger, at least with a car you can recline your seat and nap. Airplane seats are so narrow as well. Overall, I'd probabaly choose car over plane.

    Confused and Feeling Defeated.

Two solid months of soup is a wee bit harsh in my opinion, but going back to regular eating but only in moderation isn't good either, especially only after 10 days. Your doctor isn't willing to let you go to some mushy stuff like cottage cheese? If not, you can try throwing some hardier soups like bean and bacon in the blender because they will do a better job of filling you up than tomoato. Face it, there are some foods that will likely never sit well again because they're too hard to digest. I'd kill for a nice apple right now but I feel the pain just thinking of it.
  18. Anaethesia can also do it to you. I warned my surgeon that it always makes me puke and had to chug down some foul tasting stuff before surgery to prevent it. First thing I did when I woke up? Yep. Wretching galore. Then they acted all surprised about it.

    weight question

I've gained 10lbs since my surgery in the middle of October. I know some of that is water weight so I'm not particularly concerned, but it's annoying anyway. Looking forward to fills! Also looking forward to Christmas being over and Loblaws stashing away its candy cane crackle ice cream for another year. I'm not usually a binger but damn, that stuff is seriously addictive!
  20. I'd wait. I've had a reduction and it's not something that you would ever want to think of doing twice unless there were some seriously special circumstances. If you do it now, you will inevitably be disappointed down the road when you've lost your new found perkiness.

    Coffee

Coffee has oils in it that can be extremely irritating to the stomach. Usually that is the reason doctors want you to stay away from it. Caffeine also moves food through the body faster, preventing proper nutrient uptake from what you are eating.

    Has anyone tried Isopure Nectar?

The Isopure was the only one my stomach would (grudgingly) allow me to ingest. There's a low carb and a regular Isopure so be sure to go with the low carb version.
  23. I had to stop some meds, but BC was ok. Be very specific when you ask your doctor because not all brands are made the same.

second fill clogs and bogs :-(

Isn't celery high on the list of things that will make your life with the band hell? I was told no things that make strings because they have a high probability of getting stuck. Unless you chopped your celery into itty bitty pieces...

    For the ladies,menstrual cycle question?

It's common. I had it start during my pre-op diet! Part of it is because you're losing weight quite quickly from an evolutionary viewpoint and it's your body's way of saying that it isn't really well equipped to carry a pregnancy right now as clearly there is a food shortage going on. This doesn't mean you can't get preggers though, so beware!
