    December post ops

What's up? Isn't this site designed for us to bare our souls, our goals, our frustrations, and our progress. I have never hidden the fact that I have had other surgeries before I was converted to RNY in December. I have posted several times my ordeals that I went through and all the complications that I endured during the time from September to December. I have been honest with everyone since I joined the December thread that it was okay with them that I was even on this thread. I have major medical problems just like many others that have had their surgery. I have Fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, adrenal insufficiency, and immune deficiency to just name a few of the big ones. I am still dealing with those issues today. They are slightly better but not much. If anything they were all stirred up up after each of the surgeries that I couldn't get out of the bed for weeks. I was a ticking time bomb with my health. I truly believe that if I wouldn't have had the surgery when I did that I would not be here today! Now am I asking for a pitty party. Hell no! I am a nurse and I worked 60+ hours a week as a charge nurse of a private surgery center. Unfortunately I was taken out of work in June by my doctors because they were scared for my health. But hopefully one day I will start to feel even better as more of this weight comes off that I can return to the job that I love. I know that many of you on this thread also have major medical issues as well. And I know for fact that everyone on this thread has a weight problem. That's how we all got to where we are know. We have all tried crazy diet after crazy diet with some success here and there but nothing long term or you wouldn't be on this site. This site is for positive people with positive feedback. We can say things on here and everyone knows exactly what we are talking about instead of trying to explain it to someone who doesn't understand because they are not going through it. I don't care if you post on here that you lost one pound or if you lost 50 pounds. I am going to congratulate you and say keep up the good work. We have all fought the weight loss battle for many years and that's why we are joined together on this site. I will admit that the battle is a lot easier with having the RNY but none the less that has still been a battle. I don't know about you but it sure has helped me in my battle to have all the feedback from different people. I would much rather go into a battle with an army on my side instead of being the one that wants to point a finger and be alone, jealous, or bitter. I'm just doing the best I can with the tools that the doctors gave me and I will always be available for positive feedback with a positive attitude. Thanks! Oh wow!!! ladies, ladies. I'm not sure why the caddiness, but I was not trying to undermind Redstacey's success at all.I celebrate you my dear. I believe that maybe my post was taken out of context. I too, am a nurse for many years and a know many of us who have had this surgery because of many and the same reasons. I actually was trying to motivate the person who was a little upset because she hadn't lost much weight and she'd just had her surgery this past December. I was just reiterating Redstacey's comments regarding her journey with her surgery. The person thought that you'd lost it all since December. I was just letting her know that your journey began earlier than ours. That's all and nothing else. I apologize if you took this out of context because that was not the intent, but it also saddens me that you jumped to conclusions before asking me what I meant. You say that you are a positive spirit, well a truly positive person would have given me the benefit of the doubt and realized that maybe there was no negative aspect involved. I just reread the post and it read to me what I intended and that was to encourage and let that person know that your journey began back in Sept, not Dec. because she thought otherwise. I never made a comment as to whether or not what you did was not worthy of your weight loss. You are an inspiration and especially so now that I know that you are a fellow nurse. I apologize again, but I feel that you jumped the gun. And you may want to watch out for the negative feedback (greensiz 42) that egged you on, eluding to that I may be jealous....Far from it! I have nothing to be jealous of. God is great to me and I pray nothing but the best for you. Instead of calling me negative, be positive yourself and give persons the benefit of the doubt because we come from different backgrounds (meaning that we all take things differently) and this is the internet, things read differently than intended sometimes. This is why I avoid many of these types of blogs because of what just happened. I guess this is why the doctors tell you to stay away from them. Take care and you have a blessed day.
  2. Thank you Pookybear, but I'm so confused! I have heard it all. What you're saying makes perfect sense. Thank you.
  3. Hang in there Lynetta, I, too went through the same thing. I thought that something was wrong with my pouch. My dietician actually said that maybe I was not eating enough calories. Go figure. So I definitely made sure that I got close to the desired caloric count each day along with trying to get more protein in because getting that protein down can be difficult at times. You also have to make sure that you're getting enough Fiber in as well. I'm a nurse so please do not be offended when I ask you if you are having regular bowel movements? You need to make sure that you get pretty good bowel movements in also. Good luck and God bless!

    Size 8 !

Hi Debbie G, I just had my surgery on Dec 30th 2013. I started at 271 and am now down about 40 lbs today. I feel as if I should be down more lbs, but everyone keeps saying that I have to realize that it's only been 2 months exactly. I'm 8 weeks post op. I suppose 40 lbs is awesome in just 2 months. I was extremly sendentary before surgery. I can't do p90x yet, but I'm walking (with short intervals of running in between), taking Water aeobics, and slowly but surely trying to be more active than I used to be. Do you think that I am on track to see major weight loss? I've heard of people losing and they don't ecercise much at all, but I want to know if you have to become a fitness guru in order to see results? Also, you mentioned in one of your post that you eat less carbs. How many are we talking per meal? How many for the entire day also? I'm trying to find out how many I should be eating per meal because my dietician was not the best. How many calories do you consume now per day? Thank you, LaDonna
  5. I changed my settings so that you can take a look if and when you have a chance. After chatting with you, I'm starting to feel a little more confident. Thanks for your support. I will keep in touch with you. Take care and thanks again.
  6. Hi Kathryn, DId you have your surgery on 12/31? I had mine on 12/30 and I'm sure that I could be doing more. What type of exercise do you do? I feel as if you have to be almost a body builder in order to lose weight. I was told that if you just walked that you would lose (especially if you were sedentary like I was). I do more than just walk though. I just need to be consistent. How are you not getting 37 carbs in. I'm going to your diary right now to see what you eat. Maybe you could take a look at mine to see maybe what I can change. I welcome any constructive criticism. I have not had this surgery for nothing. I will win! My mother had the surgery in Oct 2012 and she started at a size 18W and is now between a 4-6. She hates exercise, but she and my father would walk alot. What am I doing wrong? My dietician told me to increase my carbs as I increase my caloric intake. I wanted to stay at 800 and she said no. She said that by 3 months postop, I need to increase to 1000 calories, and by 6 months I should increase to 1200 calories per day. I would think that one should increase so that by the time you level out, your body will be okay with taking in 1200 calories and you will not gain because you stayed at 800 for so long and then when you finally increase, you start to gain weight. Just pulling from my nursing knowledge. I would love to know what your dietician said to do because mine was not the best.
  7. Thank you jlmckee. Are you saying 15-30 grams per meal, not for the entire day right?
  8. So Terri, How do you know what you're consuming if you only count Proteins? Are you saying that you eat until you get enough proteins? I'm somewhat confused. Please expain
  9. Hi all, I'm about 8 weeks post op on this coming Monday, and I'm still somewhat unclear as to how many carbs that I should be eating in this phase. I saw the dietician a couple of weeks ago, and I forgot to ask her; so I went home and emailed this question to her.... Her response was as my caloric intake increases, so will my carbs. I understand that, but I would like to have numbers so that I will have something to guide me. So, I ask you all, how many carbs should I be consuming at this phase? Thanks, LaDonna

    December post ops

Hi Sara, I noticed that you are experiencing dry scalp and skin. it could be due to dehydration (not enough fluids), or have you thought of maybe it's the harsh weather conditions? Cold weather dries out our skin, scalp, etc. But I really believe that it mostly is from the surgery and maybe not enough fluids. I also wanted to ask you what you are doing to lose weight? Your weight loss is impressive. I had my surgery on Dec 30, 2013. So I'm not sure if I should be considered a Dec postop or a Jan post op. Anyhoo, I am in week 7 and I've lost only 36 lbs. Did you have your surgery at the beginning of Dec or what date in Dec? Did you ever seemed stalled ont he scale? I feel as if I'm not doing something right. I eat between 60-80 proteins/day. I have been much better with my exercising (I was sedentary before surgery). We have been snowed in here in GA the last couple of weeks, and I didn't exercise. I have heard many people say that they didn't exercise onebit and they still lost the weight. I do not plan on being one of those persons, but I wonder if you have to become a body builder to lose the weight! I just need some advice. I must be doing something wrong. Do you eat pasta? I have been carrying lean cuisines to work, and many of them are full of pasta. I still watch my caloric intake, carbs, and sugars, as well as sodium intake, but maybe the lean cuisines are too much! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, LaDonna

    December post ops

Hi all, I had my surgery Dec 30, 2013, so I'm not sure if I should be considered a Dec or a Jan post op. Anyway, I'm in my 7th week and I feel as if I'm losing slowly. I've lost between 36-37 lbs. Any advice? Are any of you eating pasta? I actually had a close family member to tell me that she ate lean cuisines after her bypass surgery because she was able to know exactly what she was eating. She has done very well. It happens to be my mother! Most lean cuisines have a lot of pasta in them. Granted she would halfen the meals up and eat a portion for lunch and a portion for dinner. Sometimes she claims that she would just finish it in one sitting. My question is if you all feel if eating the lean cuisines are a mistake?
