OTC Drugs which are ok for sleeve and which are NOT
ash replied to BeardedItalian48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think there was a thread about this somewhere, but I'm not near a computer, so I'm posting from my blackberry....BUT, is it ok to take a laxative if needed? -
I totally barfed tonight for the first time since my surgery. It's the Multivitamin. The problem is you are supposed to take them with a meal, but if you can't DRINK with a meal, then how do you do that??? I'm still not eating enough, got a sinus thing going on, going back to work this week, and just feeling a little miserable. Not to mention this one incision of mine is totally OPEN and not healing. Haven't lost any more weight since the initial 1 week post-op
ash replied to susimar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The same thing is happening to me. I started mushies last Wednesday, and the scale hasn't budged. Haven't gained, it just stays EXACTLY the same. I'm ready for it to move down again. -
how do you keep your vitamins down?
ash replied to ash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's what I have been doing too! Glad I'm not the only one. I think my problem with the night I got sick was because I took the vitamins after I ate, not before. Last night I took them before my meal and I was fine. Thanks all! I'm eating pureed chili for breakfast. This is my first day back to work (even though I've been working setting up my classroom since last week), so wish me luck! -
Penny! I'm so glad you are home and recovering well. So good to hear from you

Yeah, I'm definitely going to need to try something different with the Vitamins. I called my Dr about the incision last week because it was ooozing some pretty nasty stuff, and they told me to wash it with antibacterial soap and treat it with neosporin under a bandage. It looks awful, but the skin around it isn't too red or anything. I have a follow up appt next week, so hopefully if it's not better by then, the Dr will be able to do something for it. -
OTC Drugs which are ok for sleeve and which are NOT
ash replied to BeardedItalian48's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had to crush pills or have the chewable kind. I stared on the nexium the day after I got home, and I was back on my other meds too. My doctor's list of allowed meds are: Antibiotics Cold medicine(like sudafed) Robitussin cough syrup Cough drops Tylenol Aspirin free excedrin -
Anyone else have trouble with eggs on mushies?
ash replied to TennJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, well, I absolutely HATE eggs, an I can't even taste them in this tuna salad. I usually make tuna with apples, miracle whip, and pickles, but this is what I did the other day...it makes quite a bit, so if you aren't going to share this with someone else, you might want to half the recipe: 1-12 oz can tuna, drained (I put mine in a wire colander and kind of mashed it up while I drained it) 2 T lemon juice 1/2 t salt (next time I'm leaving out the salt) 1/4 t pepper 2 T red onions 2 T dill relish 1 garlic clove - I use minced garlic in a tube, almost like a paste 1/2 C light mayo 2 T parmesan cheese (I buy the shredded cheese) fresh chives, to taste 2 hard boiled eggs What I did was start with the lemon juice in a food processor, then added the onions, relish, garlic, salt, pepper, cheese, mayo, and chives (everything but the tuna and eggs). I got all those really fine then added the tuna and processed it. At that point, I put everything in a plastic container because my food processor is pretty small, then put the eggs through one of those pampered chef slicers, added that to the food processor and choppped it up extremely fine, then mixed the eggs into the tuna mixture. It's not a sweet tuna, so if that's what you like, maybe try miracle whip instead of mayo. And that's it! I really like it and will eat it until I can't stand it anymore, lol. I only added the eggs for their Protein value, not the flavor. And tuna has 13 grams of protein in 2 ounces, I think. Maybe it's 11 grams. -

This is my third day of mushies, and I'm digging the tuna salad I made the other day. I put two hard boiled eggs in it. I'm about to eat some in a few minutes! Other than that, I've tried chili with a little cheese and sour cream, but I'm ready for some Beans too. I'd love some baked beans, but I know that isn't the best choice. -
Congrats Jill! I wish you the best.

I seriously have been living off of chicken broth, grape juice, crystal light pops, and Water. I tried mixing a carnation instant Breakfast (sf) the other day and it was way too sweet. I've tried the Protein shakes, and again, gagging on the sweetness. I need some variety before I go insane! Also, I haven't been taking my Vitamins. I know that is terrible, but I need to take them with food and I'm afraid if I take them on liquids only that I'll puke! I hate to puke. I'm being a baby, no? Someone tell me to suck it up!

No kidding, I wish I'd known they had Soups before today. I wanted the broccoli cheese, but they were out. I thought the tomato might not sit well with me, but it was fine! I might go there tomorrow for lunch too! I'd never even been to a quiznos before today!
-
I actually went to Quizno's today with my husband, BIL & SIL, and they had soup on the menu, so I decided to try it. I am certainly a cheap date! For $1.99 I got a cup of tomato basil soup and ate about half. Had the other half for dinner. It was awesome! Only one more day until mushies for me!

Reflections from a Fat Chick
ash replied to roseyandmusic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am the same as you, but my husband says oh-so-nice things like "your belly doesn't stick out as much in the front" instead of, "hey, you look nice!" HAHAHAHA! He's a dork. Anyway, I just got back from church and everyone says they can tell, but I can't. I did put on a blouse this morning and could definitely tell in the way it fit, but when I look in the mirror, I can't tell a thing! -
Yes, I browse GNC.com every now and then. I just get myself worked up over ordering stuff, lol! I'm cheap. This morning I ordered a hot chocolate sample pack from Nashua Nutrition. Next on my list to sample is the Max Protein and Whey Gourmet. I might sneak into the local GNC this afternoon being prepared to put my hand in her face if she keeps talking at me. Not really. I'd never do that! HA!
-
Can this hot chocolate be mixed with milk too? Or just water?
-
I almost bought some of the ensure the other day, but money is tight and I just hate spending more on things I'm not sure I'll like!!! I went to a GNC when I was out of town the other day, but they didn't have the Max Protein. My local GNC might have it, but to be honest, the lady that works there is SO PUSHY and annoying and asking me way too many personal questions that I hate to go in there. I mean, I know she just wants to sell stuff, but it's still annoying.
-
Thank you! I have the nectar samples and have tried the lemonade and chocolate truffle. I couldn't finish the lemonade. Made me a little sick to my stomach. The truffle was okay. Hopefully I'll find something out of the samples that I can tolerate!

I am currently watching the Food Network. And I hate to cook! Nothing has really tempted me, though. I just enjoy watching people do things in the kitchen that I can't do...not because of my surgery, just because cooking stresses me out! HAHAH!

I haven't started taking any iron. Started back on my vitamins today and so far, so good. I'm not eating enough, I know this. I'm sick of liquids. And I went for a check-up yesterday and my surgeon lectured me on protein. Because I'm so tall, I need between 80-100 grams a day, which means I'm still going to need protein supplements even when I'm off liquids. Whining, I know!

I have been sleeping on my back since the surgery and on an incline of pillows since my surgery last Tuesday. Last night, I woke up and my behind was NUMB from being in that position so long, so I got comfortable, took the pillows away, and slept on my side the way I like. So now two of my incisions are kind of oozing. They had been bleeding a little because there are some tiny spots of blood on my nightgown, but now they are just oozing clear stuff. Not much is coming out at all, but I don't want to make it worse! What can I do to make this stop??? Sorry for the grossness of this post!

Ok, I think I just had the best post-surgery "meal" yet. I got really excited about it, actually. My husband told me to calm down, lol! I was just so tired of all the chicken flavored Soups, so I picked up a Progresso Light Santa Fe Style Chicken just to try it out. Had to strain it...beans, rice, chicken, etc. I sipped the juice to see what it was like and I was pleasantly surprised! While I was warming it up, I thought how nice it would be to have just a dash of sour cream mixed in it, so I did it. It made it a little creamy, not too much, and it reminded me of the taco soup that I make on cold days. LOVED IT. Finished my little mug of it, which I never do with the cream of chicken. Anyway, I grew up in Texas and have a huge love for Tex-Mex. I think this soup just might get me through several more days of liquids!
