I have always been how do I put it? A sturdy muscular girl very atheletic ~ my grandfather actually used to call me his "muscle bound mouse"..........It wasn't until college that I started putting on weight, my father actually passed away my freshman year of college and I began to eat.....and eat and eat. Always thinking Monday I will start my diet but Monday never came. I got bigger and bigger deep down inside I knew I was big and needed to do something but still I beleived I had everything under control. HAHA what a joke......it wasn't until 2008 when I finally got a medical condition because of my weiight ~ high blood pressure that I actually thought what am I doing here. I had tossed around the idea of gastric bypass but frankly it scares the beegeebees out of me ~ I mean you are re-working your god given plumbing. That is when I stubmled upon this thing called lapband ~ hmmm it didn't sound so bad, was reversible and had the possibilites of working just as well as the gastric bypass without being so evasive and SCARY!!!! I was at a early physical with my PCP in March of 2008 and I mentioned to her my thoughts she was excited said I was a shoe in as besides my weight (blood pressure) issues I was really pretty healthy! I had found a couple of local Dr's on-line so I shared with her my list ~ she stopped me at Dr. Chae and said that is your guy ~ her husband is an anesthestiologist and sometimes works with Dr. Chae and he really thought he was great so that is who she recommended.I am a bit of a procrastinator ~ so I kept putting any further research off. FINALLY in January of 2009 I got up the nerve to sign-up for a conference/meeting with Dr. Chae ~ wouldn't you know the night I chose to attend at Skyridge Dr. Chae got sick and had to cancel.........uugghh!! But that was the end instead it was only the beginning of the next half of my life......I spoke to Pam and she suggested that instead of meeting in a group and waiting until the following month why don't I just make an appt directly with Cr. Chae for a consultation........I did just that and so the story of how I got my second birthday begins.......My appointment was on February 20th ~ I took my mom with me as this would be a big decision and I needed someone else to hear everything with me. We met with Kelly, Susie and Dr. Chae that day ~ found out that my insurance would require 6 months of pre-work and then they still had an additional 45 days to say yes or no...........My mom asked what if we pay cash? We were told that I could get the surgery anytime I wanted I would only have to take the Sunday nutrition class with Kelly. We thanked them for their time ~ and told them we would think on this and let them know our decison. We didn't even make it to the elevator when our decsion was made ~ we would pay cash and get it done!I called and made an appointment for Monday 3-16-2009. Scary but the decision was made FINALLY.........what a whirlwind but a good time I never really had time to be nervous, before I knew it the day was here. I took just one week off from work and had told just 4 people what I was doing ~ thought someone at work should know in case I passed out or something and they needed to tell the cute paramedics what I had done.Monday 3-16-09 @ 2:00 I went in for surgery and 45 minutes later it was done and I was in a very "quick" recovery then up to my room for 1 night stay. I had never stayed in the hospital overnight since I was born so it had been awhile.....boy you sure don't get much rest they keep waking you up!!! I never used any of the pain meds ~ of which the nurse reminded everytime she came in that all I needed to do was press the button. Finally at about 6:00 a.m. they took the drugs away as I was going to be released in about 3 hours. Went home to my mom's house for the rest of the week ~ everything was good so issues or anything. Back to work on Monday 3-23-09.I have had 1 fill ~ at about 5 weeks out I think. It is time for another I need to make an appt. I have just passed my 4 month anniversary and I am currently down 72 lbs ~ it makes me laugh because when I began this journey I had hoped to lose 50lbs by my actual birthday which is August 16th and then 80 lbs by Christmas. Needless to say I need to make some new goals, but the new goals are a problem that I can deal with.
