Does anyone get the LB removed just because they don't like it?
cadidsmom replied to angelface's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Angelface, I am having my band out very soon-it should already be out but my doctor left the practice and I have to go to one of his partners, so there is a little delay. My band is slipped, which is the official reason it is coming out, but I am SOOOOO glad to be getting it out. I have had it since 2003, and have kept about 40 pounds off of the 82 I lost. The band is not a good fit for me. If I had of had the option, I would have had it out months if not years ago. For me, it a very frustrating way of life. I know it works for many, many people and I am so glad for them. I really don't like having something foreign in my body-it kind of freaks me out. It is so hard to eat a lot of good things, and so dang easy to eat the crappy stuff. I am very excited to be getting the band out, and will immediately start Weight Watchers again, and have joined the YMCA. And, my 5 year old LOVES doing my Richard Simmons Sweatin' To the Oldies with me-she is great motivation! Back to your original questions, I know 7 people personally who have been banded. Of those, 4 of us would have it out in a heart beat. Good luck! -
Bands eroded, slipped or still successful bands?
cadidsmom replied to PamRN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello everyone. I am having my band removed probably next week due to a slip. I talked to my surgeon's medical assistant today, and she told me that there was also a small hiatal hernia that showed up on my last swallow study, and wanted to know if I wanted my surgeon to take care of that while he was doing surgery to remove my band. Have any of you had that problem or surgery for that? Just trying to decide what I want to do about it. -
Thanks for the info, kslexi. I found out about the slip on Friday, and was hoping the doctor's office would call today with a surgery date, but didn't hear anything. I know I am being impatient, but like I said before, I'm ready to get it out! I read a few other posts from ladies who had the band out, and said that afterwards, it felt different when the ate or drank anything. One of them said she could feel when something hit the bottom of her stomach. Have you experienced anything like that? And I am so glad you are able to eat without vomiting and pain, and that they were able to get your band out in time.

Thanks kslexi and wasabubblebutt (luv that name!). I am ready to get this band out of me. I looked up the sleeve, and I am so glad it is working so well for you, Wasa, but it's not for me. I'll just have to go back to weight watchers and the YMCA. Kslexi, great job losing your weight! That is awesome. May I ask why you had to have your band out? Just wondering. THanks for your responses. I am just trying to figure out how much time I will need off from work. I am an ICU nurse and only work on weekends, so I am hoping I can just miss one weekend. Is that reasonable? THanks again!

Hi, I'm new to this site. I was banded in 2003, lost 82 pounds the first year and a half, then got pregnant (yeah!). After my son was born, we found out that he had a rare congenital heart defect, so the past four years, we have concentrated on getting him through 4 open heart surgeries and a stroke. He is doing pretty well now. Anyhoo, with all that going on, my band was the last thing on my mind. I had a couple of fills in that time, but always had to have the saline taken back out b/c of nausea/ vomiting. Now that my son is doing better, I decided to give the band one more honest try. Weeelllll....having the same problems. My doc did a swallow study in April, then pulled all of the saline out of my band because he said I had a dilation. Still having problems, even with saline out, had another swallow test on Tuesday, and I have a slipped band. I think it has probably been that way for a while. I am hoping to have my band out, and leave it out. My question (after all of that...sorry for the length of this!) is, how much pain is involved with removal, and how much time off from work should I need to take, If everything goes as planned? Thanks!
