    Newly Banded in Oklahoma

I absolutely don't regret anything. I started my preop diet (Jun 1)with a weight of 217, and I'm down to 197 now (banded on Wed). It's been the best thing I could have done. It was tough to stick with the pre-op diet, but not hard at all once I had surgery. I could live without the shakes, but I'll be sticking with at least 1 a day. I don't think I would have done anything differently. Well...maybe calmed down a bit more. I got super nervous right before surgery. That was my own fault. Ask all the questions you want. It's how you get them answered :tongue_smilie:

    Newly Banded in Oklahoma

I'm from altus and got banded on the 10th in wichita falls. I'm with tulsa. I like the EAS shakes. They taste the best so far. Especially the chocolate ones. Nice to see other okies on here!
  3. Congrats! Keep us posted on everything. I was banded on the 10th and I couldn't be happier!
  4. Does everything taste metallicy to you? It does me. Just nasty! The hospital called me yesterday to check on me and they said if my throat is still this sore, then I better see my PCM on monday. I may be on the road to strep.
  5. I was banded on the 10th. I'm down to 199.4. I was 217 when i started the pre-op diet. I'm on full liquids at the moment. My worst part is how sore my throat still is. Otherwise, I'm a happy camper.
  6. Ok, I have had this large, thick, piece of mucous stuck in the back of my throat since I had surgery. The nurse said it would eventually come up, but it wont. It comes up to the top of my throat and that's as far as it will go. I can't get it out of there and it's driving me insane. I gag on it, I have made my throat sore trying to cough it out (and i'm about done with that too because i'm afraid i'm going to hurt the band), and I have used an expectorant all day. Gargling doesnt work either. This this is nasty. Any ideas?
  7. The nutritionist told me this can happen with lack of protein.
  8. I drank the premade EAS protien shakes. they weren't too bad. I still didn't like them, but it was better than the first one I got. I literally cried at lunch. That's when we looked for new ones.

    sleeping on stomach

I was never told I had to sleep a certain way. I sleep on my side, but I use a body pillow. I don't see what it would hurt, other than the incisions.
  10. I took Robitussin all day yesterday. Just the expectorant. Not the suppressant. It worked wonders. I woke up this morning and I can barely feel it there. I'm guessing it's a muscous plug (sounds nasty but google helped). I'm guessing the guaifenesin in the robitussin broke it down a bit. I'll take more today and see how it goes

What to take to the hospital

I haven't had to use any Gas-X. My hospital was extremely strict on only taking what they give you. If you have issues with gas, you should be able to tell them and they will take care of you. They are there to make you comfortable. As far as what I actually took with me...I had an overnight stay. My laptop and season 2 of grey's anatomy were a must. Entertainment rocks!
  12. oh ew...weeks....nasty....i really hope it doesn't come up at work. Thanks for the help ladies. I'm trying the warm liquids...and I can only hope it's days rather than weeks, but I'm done trying to hack it up. It's causing pain

    It's over!!!

Congrats ladies! I was banded on the 10th too! I can't wait to see your progress!

    did i make a mistake?

There is a phenegren gel you can ask your doctor for. You rub it on your wrists and it works wonders. I've had it before for nausea. I haven't felt that way yet with my surgery (hopefully i wont).
  15. I was banded on the 10th (wed) and I can sleep on my right side, but if I have a body pillow. I use it to kind of support me. I lay half on it. Laying on my left side is just uncomfortable and I hate sleeping on my back.

    Sore throat

I know the feeling about the sore throat. I just got banded on Wed and my throat has been killing me. I'm gargling with warm salt water. It's helping.
  18. I am not feeling too bad. Sorry I just got around to writing this. I watched a movie and fell asleep. Go figure.

Good luck with your surgery. I was quite surprised. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am sore...like I did 10000 situps or got tackled in the stomach, but really I'm getting around just fine. I'll keep you in my prayers!

  19. Hello! My name is Shannon and I was banded yesterday in Wichita Falls, Tx by Dr. Warnock. This has gone a lot better than I expected. I'm sore, but I don't hurt nearly as much as I figured I would. I have been lurking here on the forums for about a month now, but decided to go ahead and signup today. It's nice to meet all of you! Everything has been very helpful and informative!
