You will get a letter in the mail with the phone number to the doctor you've been referred to. You will call that number to schedule your initial appointment. What about co-morbidities? I had a couple. Insulin resist, PCOS, trouble breathing. They went towards my surgery because my BMI was 38.

I am married to an Air Force man. Tricare was simple to deal with. I talked to my doctor, got the referral within a couple weeks, and the ball got rolling. Everything went quickly for me. I am 5'3" and i was 220 when i started the process. It was quite easy. Good luck!

I am now in a size 11/12 juniors. I'm so stoked!! I even got into an addidas jacket I haven't worn in years. I'm big into sports and have a ton of sporty clothing I haven't been able to wear and now I can!

That is fantastic to hear! Way to go! -
I'm 5'3" so i'm pretty short. I've been in a 14 for several weeks, and i'm having to use a belt to keep them up. However, i'm big into sports. Maybe I have more muscle now? Since I started working out the way I have been, my weight has been slowly going down, but the inches have come off. Muscle weighs more than fat...

Bleh, I am so tired of these protein shakes!
Shay7997 replied to thecooley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink EAS Lite shakes. They are higher calories than what my doctor wants in a shake, but they taste better. There's 20 grams of protein in them and the chocolate ones are great. I dont buy the powder. I buy the pre-mixed ones. They are a little pricey, but it's worth it to me. You get 4 for 8 bucks. If you get them at sames, you get 18 for 25. Wal-mart carries them with the diet/diabetic drinks. -
Bananas and melons have the highest sugar content. My doctor said to eat them sparingly. As far as other fruits, I can eat them, but I have to take the skins off (apples, plums, etc) and be wary of stringy fruits like pineapple and oranges.

I bought a wii active and it's amazing. Not the wii fit...wii active. There's a ton of aerobic stuff on there to do and it taylors a 30 day challenge to you.

Hair Loss - Will it stop?
Shay7997 replied to RUKidding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting in all your protein? Women are supposed to get 65 grams of protein a day as a minimum. My nutritionist told me my hair would thin out if I wasn't getting my protein. -
Bump under incision site with moderate numbness
Shay7997 replied to cutencurvy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The largest incision is supposed to be your port incision...at least for my doctor it is. That hardness you feel should be your port. -
I would love to say that's the case, but I drink about 5 33oz bottles of smart water a day....the amount of water didn't help :frown:

For once, something I can REALLY help with! I have had the same issue. I was told it's because fat cells hold onto the toxins. As we lose weight, we lose the fat cells, which release the toxins. There is this stuff at wal-mart called Acne Free. It's a kit like Proactive but works way better than proactive (as long as you keep up with it). It's 20 bucks and worth every penny. My face is clearing up! I use clean & clear to wash my makeup off then I use the Acne Free system. Using just regular face wash wasn't cutting it. Also, there's something called Spot Treatment in a little silver and purple tube. I put that on my breakouts as soon as I notice them. It's from clean & clear. Works wonders! Dries out those nasty zits.

Should just stay on mushies this week?
Shay7997 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you stick to mushy foods because you're scared, then you're going to make it a habit to eat them because they are "easier" to eat. You need to get on solid foods and just remember to chew it really well and take small bites. If you stick with slider foods, you won't lose weight likeyou're supposed to and you won't stay full as long as you should -
Seiriously annoyed!!

Sounds like one of those people who wants the weight to come off but not do any work for it. She's in for an eye opener.... -

Hint for drinking soda..
Shay7997 replied to CantB2noty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't bother. Soda has so much sugar and is many empty calories. I was a total mt dew and dr pepper addict before surgery. I have discovered life goes on without it. -
MISERABLE periods after band ladies????
Shay7997 replied to Inspiremeslim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm all for the miserable periods if it means I'm more fertile! -
now i need some encouragement =/
Shay7997 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took time for the weight to go on; it will take time for the weight to come off. You just had surgery, and you most likely won't start losing weight until you get on more solid foods. Each transition to a food stage usually means a weight gain. If you start getting it in your head now that you're going to fail, then you will fail. Weight loss with the lap band is a marathon, not a sprint. Have patience and realize it's going to be a journey. If you can't get yourself in the right frame of mind, you need to find a support group in your area. These forums are great, but they aren't a replacement for face-to-face support. You're only two weeks out. With the way your posts sound, i think it'd be a good idea to go to a support group. -
going swimming at 1 and 1/2 weeks post op
Shay7997 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told (and researched it on the net too) not to swim or take a bath (showers only) until 3-4 weeks post-op. You run the risk of getting an abscess on your incision as well as other infections. I'm a "better safe than sorry" kind of gal and wouldn't chance the infections possible from swimming. -

Need help to get back on the band wagon
Shay7997 replied to Fluffy Jen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor has me weigh daily. He says if I go 5 days without losing 1 pound, I am to go into time-out. That means I am to go on 3 shakes a day and no food until I lose 2 pounds. Sounds harsh but it is supposed to help with a plateau. If that doesn't work it might be I need a fill or rethink what I'm eating. -
How long until 1st fill??
Shay7997 replied to MrsShannonDennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got mine today. I'm 3 weeks post-op. I wasn't expecting a fill, so it was a nice surprise for me. But I don't go back to see him for another 6 weeks. -
i am posting from my phone but i had to share. I went in for a 3 week follow-up appt and got my first fill. im really excited...except 3 days of liquids. Oh well =)

Well...the nurse was at my feet, holding them and the doc was talking to me and filling the needle with the saline. I asked him if I was going to jump from pain because she was holding my feet. He said nope (as he and the nurse laughed at my question), she's going to raise your legs in the air while you do a partial sit-up. I didn't feel a thing. No poke, pinch, pain, nothing. It was the first time I have ever not had pain from a needle. The worst part about the whole thing was having to drink tap water afterwards. I should have taken my bottled water in.
