  1. Sure thing. The first thing you need to do is find a reputable lap band doc in your area that accepts tricare. Once you do that, then you need to go to your primary care physician and talk them about wanting to get the lap band and you'd like a referral to that particular doctor. As long as you have a BMI of 38 with at least 2 co-morbities, or a BMI of 40 with no co-morbidities they should set you up!

    Ice Cream?

It would be better to wait on the ice cream until your new eating habits have been established.
  3. Most doctors recommend a year after placement of the band. The reason is because you need time to be healthy, establish new eating/cooking habits, etc. Not only that, but the weight gain from becoming pregnant can mess with a newly banded person's mind. Talk to your surgeon first since you're wanting it to happen so quickly.

    is spicy food a problem?

Hopefully that will do the trick. My band tightened up on me back in may and it was july before I had it slightly unfilled. HUGE difference! I was a much happier person for that!

    is spicy food a problem?

I have absolutely no issues with spicy food, thankfully. I adore spicy foods!

    Lap band and bras

I wore sports bra's for the first couple months then went to an underwire
  7. Don't give up yet! Yes, those are pretty massive set backs, but you've lost an amazing 35 pounds!

    Probs after fill

I agree with vlp. Call them up, explain what's going on and most likely they will tell you to come in. That's a serious problem. Water is required for survival!

    Due Feb 2011

Thanks! Why are you convinced it's a boy? I am so not a girly girl, so I'm a little worried that if we have a girl I won't be able to teach her much. I can't do hair, and I barely know how to put makeup on myself! I feel sorry for her! She's going to end up a little tomboy.
  10. Ok, I sure don't want to seem rude, especially in light of the fact you're having to reschedule your surgery, but there is no reason to keep posting the same post in two different sections. Just post it once please. Now, that really stinks you had to reschedule but it's for the best! You don't want to run the risk of something worse happening because you went in ill!

    Due Feb 2011

I'm due January 24th....that's almost february. Can I play along? LOL I just scheduled my gender scan yesterday. I'll be getting it on 13 September. My husband and I are dying to know what we're having. It took us 6 years to conceive, so we're happy with either a boy or a girl, but we sure would like to know what clothes to start picking out
  12. I did not get sick after surgery. Everything went pretty smooth for me. I was up and walking every hour. Went home the next day and again everything went well. I just took it slow and steady. I did go back to work the following Monday though. I just couldn't bear to be home any more!
  13. The thing is, Tricare DOES cover the fills. They have covered all of mine, and even a partial unfill I had a couple months ago. But let me also add, I am on Tricare Prime. So if you're on standard, it might be a different story.
  14. I have tricare and I only had 80 pounds to lose. They went by my BMI and co-morbidities. I had this done a year ago. It was a super easy process. My PCM sent me a referral to the surgeon and I was pretty much in like flynn. I think I talked to my PCM in April and by June I was having surgery.
  15. If you're throwing up all the time, the reason you're not losing weight is because you aren't consuming those calories. Your body is going into starvation mode, and you can actually gain weight from this. You need to get a slight unfill. Even .5 cc can make a huge difference! Good luck girl!

    1st stuck episode....

Being stuck is definitely no fun!!!! Sorry you had to experience that Glad it only lasted a couple minutes though! I had a 3 hour incident once and thought I was going to die!

    Crushed...

I am so sorry The only thing I can think of is to look into the self pay options. I know Care Credit is something often talked about on here.
  18. Congrats on the start of your new adventure! We will be looking forward to more updates!
  19. I would pick up the phone and call Tricare to find out exactly why you were denied. They have to tell you. I'm on Tricare south, but I haven't had this issue yet. My husband and I are moving soon so I'm liable to have the same issue. But usually you can get the problem taken care of by talking to them. Good luck!

    Pregnant and Losing?

When I got pregnant, my band tightened. It became hard to eat so I had to get a slight unfill. I had 1.5 cc's taken out. I had lost 10 pounds in a month without much morning sickness. It just depends on you and what your surgeon thinks. My surgeon told me they don't normally do unfills unless there is a problem. I definitely had a problem. Especially since I was already at goal. For me to lose more weight wasn't good. Now I am on a normal weight gain path with my pregnancy and am still eating healthy. Just make sure you keep your surgeon and you OB in the loop with everything. They can both be amazingly helpful! Congrats on your pregnancy!
  21. You should be eating the same healthy meals you were before you got unfilled. That's what I was told and what I do. I just eat more. And when it comes to snacking, I eat healthy Snacks like fruits and veggies. Although I do have these things called fruit chillers. I love those....I'm pretty sure they are a craving though. I still have to make the concious decision to eat healthier, even if I'm craving something not so healthy. It's better for me and the baby in the end. I only had a partial unfill. 1.5 cc's was taken from my band and that's only because I was having problems eating. Don't give up on exercise even though you're tired (or will be). Just walking around the neighborhood is great.

    Goodbye 200's

Congrats! It's such a wonderful feeling, isn't it? Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy your day!
  23. It may not be in your head. Some people have some swelling when they have a fill. My doc has me do liquids for the rest of the day when I get one.

    How did you do it????

I quit....Chantix was a huge help! I haven't picked up a cigarette since! Best decision I could have made.
  25. I got my band in June of 2009 and was pregnant by May of 2010. I actually had given up on getting pregnant after 6 years of trying. The weight loss was all I needed to get pregnant, it looks like. I was down to goal by the time I got pregnant. I would definitely wait until you have your new eating habits established and are comfortable with your band. I know my band tightened a bit when I got pregnant and I had to get 1.5cc's removed for the pregnancy.
