I hope everything went well for you today! -
Do we always have to talk about the sleeve?
i1Linda replied to Oregondaisy's topic in The Gals' Room
Alright, here's my two cents on this conversation... as a somewhat former makeup junkie. I love wearing make up. Makes me feel good. In my twenties, I bought and used everything. Couldn't leave the house without it. Now, as I am approaching 40, I am finding that less is more. To explain, I found an incredible women in Dallas that gives amazing organic facials. She switched my cleanser and "stuff" to an organic brand (mind you, I am not often on the organic bandwagon) and changed my makeup to a minerals type (Jane Iredale - kind of like Bareminerals). I find that I like my complexion now much more, and tend to wear just a little make-up. It's all I need. I have to swear by her facials and products. The icing on the cake is the eyelash extensions. I never liked mascara, always ended up with smudges on my lower lids/cheeks by mid-day regardless of which brand I used. She uses real hair for the extensions and they FEEL real. I will never wear mascara again. -
What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?
i1Linda replied to *susan*'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Funny - that's what I was thinking when I started reading Ruthi's post also. I started giggling before I realized Ruthi wasn't writing what I was thinking. However, I bet it would be fun Ruthi to walk (or ride in the jag) by your ex wearing a hot little number from VS. Eat your heart out is right. -
Jane is right. You will stall for awhile and then lose a bunch at once. The only thing reliable about our bodies and losing weight is that it will be unreliable.

Okay Daisy, have to ask. What is the 5 day pouch test?? -
Introduction and my story all in one!

Congratulations on your surgery Beth and welcome to the forum. How come when I hop on the Chat, no one is ever there? I guess I need to pick a different time. -
Hey...another newbie here!
i1Linda replied to Baldrick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Another big welcome Jeff. This forum has a wealth of information and support. The people here have a helped me have more confidence in my own decision to have VSG. Keep us posted. -
Congratulations Jane! That is AWESOME! Getting into Onederland is always a wonderful milestone. Something psychological about a number. In my previous diets I always seem to stall around 201-202. It is like my body knows and just won't let me get there without some extra work (and patience). Hang in there Vegas! It will happen.

Tomorrow is the big day
i1Linda replied to jilljesalyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulation! Good luck tomorrow. I am soooo jealous - I still have a week to go. Keep us updated:thumbup1: -
I am on Day 5 of my 2 week pre-op diet and I woke up this morning with a whopper of a headache. Yesterday I had a mild headache, but bearable. I know it is probably white carb withdrawal (my pre-op diet isn't low carb - my shakes and bars have 10 carbs each). I have been "dieting" since mid-June following mostly the pre-op diet, with a half sandwich thrown in the mix. The only thing different now versus the last few weeks is the white carbs are nixed. Can anyone tell me how long your pre-op headaches lasted if you had them? I have to stop the Excedrin on Tuesday, a week before surgery. Right now, Excedrin is my lifeline.
-
Vegas - Probably not caffeine - I'm still drinking the same 1/2 cup coffee that I have been drinking for months. Up until today, I have been knocking down the Excedrin which also contains caffeine. You may have something with the Aspartame though. The shakes do contain Aspartame and I have been drinking more Crystal Light then normal. Dallas also had a front move in (it's been raining all day) so it possible it could be a change in the weather (my knee hurts more than usual - not bad - just aches). Or...a combination of ALL the above. However, I do feel much better today and have made it without the Excedrin. Thanks for all the input and advise - makes it easier managing thru it all.

Thanks for the responses. What is weird about the whole thing is that I am not on a "low carb" pre-op diet. I get 5 shakes/bars per day and one meal of 5oz lean Protein + 2 cups low carb veggies. Each shake/bar has anywhere from 10-18 grams of carbs. Doing the math, I am eating between 60-90 grams of carbs per day. Definitely less than I ate prior to mid-June. But I have been dieting and restricting carbs to less than 100-120g since then with no ill effects. I have been on low carb diets before (Adkins - 2003) and don't remember the headaches lasting quite this long. Maybe there is something in these shakes/bars that don't agree with me and are causing the headaches. I will give my dietician a call. I do feel better today. Just a little "foggy" in the head. Definitely more functional than yesterday although any functionality would be an improvement over yesterday. Bob is right, there are definitely too many food commercials on TV.

Actually feeling better today. I'm am busy with work - busy is better than bored. I want to eat when I am bored. Although I woke up with a slight headache, it seems the headache went away on its own this morning. 7 more days after today. I can do this!
-
Susan, thanks for asking. Yesterday I would say had to be my worst day so far. I got up, had a slight headache, went the the gym and worked out. Came home, showered, put my PJ's back on, and remained in bed off and on all day. I was a SLUG. :sleep0: Absolutely no energy or will to day anything. I am up today, still slight headache, but more determined to get things done today.

Observations from pre-op diet
i1Linda replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh, how funny! Oh, how true! I needed the laugh! I was watching TV (on Tivo) last night and had to fast forward thru all those damn food commercials. I am good ALL day until it's time for bed. That's when the cravings start. -
How's the pre-op diet going today? I am on day 4 and have had a bit of a headache all day. I'm hungry of coarse, but manageable. 10 more days to go.....
Good luck!

Day 4 of liquid diet
i1Linda replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bob - I'm right there with you. Today is MY day 4 of pre-op diet. I have been chewing lots of sugarfree gum. Keeps my mouth busy. When I really want something, I try to focus on what someone on this forum wrote: "it is not that can never have it, I just can't have it NOW." 10 days to go.... Linda -
My curiosity has got the best of me. Had to take a peak.... I have to say, this is the funniest thread to date. And I also am curious as to exactly what these men "do" while out on "loan".:001_smile:

Here's another Nectar flavor update. I bought several samples of the Crystal Sky (fruit punch) flavor. Wasn't much of a fan. However, I have found a combination that was pretty good. Mix a SF Hawaiian Punch - Juicy Red packet (I stole it from my kids stash) with 24oz of water and then add the Crystal Sky, shake really well (Crystal Sky doesn't dissolve as easy as some of the other flavors), and then add lots of ice. It is still not my favorite, but I will be able to enjoy the rest of these samples.:001_smile:

Welcome Steve! I am with Vegas on this one. We have had about 7 days straight of triple digit heat here in Dallas. What I wouldn't give for an afternoon high in the 60's.

How scary. Lots of the prayers on the way.

I've been sleeved...coming home tomorrow!
i1Linda replied to TennJenn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Did someone mention Las Vegas? :bored0: I'd love to go back to Vegas. The buffets would definitely be a waste of $$. Nothing like spending $20+ on 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food. WASA is right, every six of us could share an entree.
