    Out of the twos!

Thanks Vegas. I keep stalling then losing. I think my 15 hour days at work this week (on my feet, running around with my head cut off) seemed to be the "magic" trick to finally break out of the low 200's. Someone on the board mentioned a scale gremlin who stuck his foot on the scale to keep you right above 200. I finally squashed that little stinker this morning. :001_smile:

    Out of the twos!

Congratulations Dee Dee - my August 4th Sleeve buddy. Keep up the good work. Onederland is AWESOME! I found myself there this morning - 198 (how do we not lose anything for several days/weeks and then lose 3 lbs overnight? Whatever, I will take the loss any way I can.

    Day to day eating changes

Hi Bob! Congratulations on your weight loss so far. I am just a couple days away from solids foods. I have similar food issues. Like Vegas, I have trouble getting anything down in the morning. I start every day with a nectar Fuzzy Navel w/ Crystal Light. Gets my fluids in and a jump start on the Protein. Like you, sometimes I can eat what I think is "a lot" and other times just a few bites and I am stuffed for hours. I haven't found any particular foods that don't sit well except one. I can no longer eat eggs, period. Every time I eat them (or foods rich in eggs) I get horrible stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. I'm not sure if you are doing things right or wrong. However, you're not alone. I'm right there too. Hopefully we are both not messing things up. Linda
  4. Another option is Protonix. It is now available as a generic in the US. Much cheaper than brand name Nexium and is also a proton pump inhibitor (works the same way). Granted, you have to wait until you can swallow pills, but it can save you some money.
  5. Congratulations Susan! :thumbup1: That is an AWESOME accomplishment. I can't wait to get there myself. Still a ways to go, but I will DEFINITELY get there.

    Post Op Vitamins?

I was told by the dietician to take a multi vitamin (two of my kid's gummie vitamins are fine) and 1500 mg of calcium citrate every day. I take the chewable calcium citrate now but will hopefully progress to the Citracal Petites (smaller tablets and easier to swallow) in a few weeks.
  7. Well, had an interesting and somewhat scary experience today. :biggrin0: Just thought I would share. I started back to work yesterday, and my back started to ache throughout the day. Today the back pain was much worse and had to keep sitting down without much relief. I called my doctor who asked me a bunch of questions about the pain. In the end, he said to come in and he would order a CT under contrast. He wanted to see what was going on inside. I asked if it could wait until the morning (I had a meeting this afternoon) but he told me no, he would prefer to see me today. So in a panic, I raced to the hospital, drank the nasty contrast stuff (mixed with cranberry juice - I kept trying to convince myself it was a cranberry vodka with cheap vodka - yuck) and got a picture taken of my sleeve. Once finished, I hiked back across the hospital to my doctor office and was told....my sleeve was perfect. My back pain, was back spasms. Apparently our stomach muscles are anchored in our back. As my stomach muscles spasm due to the stress of surgery, it works its way around to my back. Anyway, now that I know what it is (and that me sleeve is fine), I can tolerate it. Not knowing, well, I thought I was leaking everywhere. Whew!!

    Big Scare

Thanks Steve. I will have to try those exercises. My back is starting to feel a little better. I am working on my posture (ya know - suck it in a little). I think I was over compensating for my stomach muscles and my back was doing all the work.
  9. I am almost two week out from surgery (still on full liquids until Tuesday). Every time I eat (I mean drink) about 10 minutes later, my mouth turns sour. Anyone else have this problem? Not sure if it's my body (hormones) or if it's a side effect of the anesthesia. Any thoughts?

    Sour Taste?

I think Mac is correct on this one. I bought some Ketone strips - yeah - I'm totally in ketosis. The "sourness" seems to be a little less significant today. I know your body adapts and the initial ketosis symptoms fade away. Hopefully, that is what's happening.

    Sour Taste?

I am on a PPI - so I don't think it is reflux. Things still taste good while I am enjoying them. But once I am done the taste in my mouth turns sour. So weird. Even brushing my teeth - the toothpaste flavor turns a little bit yucky after a bit. So weird - but it does sound like everyone who has this surgery has something go wacky with their taste buds. I'm losing weight, so I can live with it for now.
  12. Hey DeeDee!

Glad to hear things are going well for you. I am still on full liquids until Tuesday. My mind sometimes wants to eat real food, but even just after a couple bites of yogurt my stomach reminds my head who is in charge. It's funny, prior to surgery, I could get in 120g of protein and 12c of water in daily-no problem. I didn't understand what a challenge it would be post-op. Now, I struggle to get in 6c of water and 60g of protein. I get hungry once in a while, take a few bites/sips and am fine for hrs. It past noon, and I'm still trying to get in my protein shake I made for breakfast. My weight is falling off quickly so that helps. I just get concerned that I can't continue to live and be healthy on 400 cal a day. I am sure it will get better once my tummy heals and I get to start solids. I do have my first "mushie" meal planned. I want refried beans with melted cheese, light sour cream and pureed salsa - I'm from Texas and I miss my Mexican food. Take care!

    Big Scare

Thanks VegasAngel - I tried the heating pad on it this morning while sitting at my computer working - It did help a lot.:laugh0:
  14. Welcome Don! Glad to see another Dallasite. Good Luck on your upcoming surgery.

    Big Scare

Hypersensitive is an understatement. Every little twitch and pain is like - "OMG what just happened?" The back pain just wouldn't go away and kept getting worse - of coarse I was up and about more and more. I kind of feel silly having a CT for back spasms. The piece of mind however is very much worth it.
  16. Hey! I'm in Dallas too. Who is doing your surgery? I had mine last week (9 days post-op).

    August Sleevers

Good luck tomorrow! I will be thinking of you!
  18. Hey Bob!

I am definitely getting stronger every day. I have been walking every day, although is wears me out (why I nap every day). Pain has been manageable, just taking liquid Tylenol (gag) during the day and the Lortab (gag) at night. I still have my drain until Wednesday - can't wait to get that removed. Yesterday, for some reason, I was hungry all day (or I thought I was), today, not at all. Maybe it was gas. Haven't had any problems in the BM department, liquid in, liquid out. I got to start on blended cream soups today. Yummy! Doesn't take much to get filled up, I get to start cream of wheat, cottage cheese, etc, Wednesday. I go on the scale this morning, I have lost 7 pounds in a week - I'm sure I'm dehydrated. I am supposed to go back to work tomorrow, I might need to work from home. Glad to hear you are doing well, take care and keep in touch.

  19. Good Luck on your surgery tomorrow. I will be praying for you. Let us know how you are doing.

  20. Ange - Good Luck tomorrow on your surgery. I will be praying for you!

Let's us know how you are doing. Linda

  21. Hi Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Linda. I have been overweight off and on my whole life it seems. When I was younger, I swam competitively all summer long. Weight that I had gained from poor eating habits during the school year just melted off during the summer months. Unfortunately, the cycle continued year after year. Eventually, I became a "grown up" with real life responsibilities, stopped swimming, had two boys and then layered on the pounds. Like all of you, I have tried several diets, some very successfully but only learned how to "DIET", not eat. For the record, I am a really good dieter. However, eventually, something would happen, I would get bored with dieting, or just got plain hungry and stopped the diet. And back to old eating habits - the cycle continues. I have been following the boards for several weeks as I educated myself on WLS. I visited my surgeon today and have scheduled surgery for August 4th. I was all set to get the band until I went to his seminar. My doctor wasn't pushing any one type of surgery but as he discussed the options available, the sleeve sounded pretty good. The more research I did about the sleeve, the better it sounded. So 6 weeks from today, I will get my sleeve.

    August 4th !!

How do I get a sparkle?
  23. DeeDee -

I have been trying to sip all day long. It's a chore. I am sucking on a SF popsicle now. I can feel every swallow land in my irritated (and smaller) stomach. Not pleasant. Walking hasn't been much of a problem. The more you walk, the easier it gets. I struggled to get in and out of my bed at first. Last night I had terrible gas pains and was in and out of bed all night. It got easier - now it's no problem. Everything is tender but manageable. My only advise on protein is find conc. protein (high protein/small volume). Yesterday I made a Nectar protein with diluted crystal light. All together was almost 18oz of fluid (just like what I was drinking before surgery). It took me 6 hrs to finish one 23g serving. Today I just made the nectar with 8oz of water and got all 23g of protein in about 90 min. Some of the bariatric drinks didn't sound to appealing pre-op because there was no volume for the calories consumed. I know see the benefit.

    How are you doing?

    August 4th !!

Hey SoCal ! Thanks for checking in on me. I'm a little stronger each day. I just woke up from a long nap. Still having trouble getting in my fluids. I have already gotten 75% of my daily protein requirement - so much better there. I went for a walk around the block this morning - made pretty good time. All in all, not a bad day.
