    NSV shout outs

Today I had the BEST NSV. My 8 year old son gave me hug and asked me how long I plan to keep exercising. I answered, "forever, Mommy wants to keep being healthy". He said "good, cause I can finally do this" and he gave me another hug and wrapped his arms around my waist. He said "I couldn't touch my hands together before but now I can clasp my hands together when I hug you. I like that". Like I said, the BEST NSV EVER.

    NSV at Old Navy!

Finally had a chance to stop by Old Navy today. I bought two pair of jeans in a Misses 14 - yeah! I also bought a long sleeve tshirt in a size L (not XXL, not XL, just L). I was so excited about the shirt. I am bigger on top and haven't seen a L top in a really long time.
  3. Hi Anna -

Congratulations on your decision. I know it can be difficult deciding on surgery and then picking a surgeon. I love Dr. Nick and his staff. I like that they are close to home and after going to his seminar, I felt very confident is his competency as a surgeon. He didn't try to sell WLS or any one type. He just gives you the facts and lets you decide. He is very passionate about helping people. When I started having back pain 2 weeks post op, he did not hesitate getting me into his office immediately and then downstairs for a CT. I continue to call his office for this and that. His entire staff is so helpful and accommodating. When is your surgery? Keep in touch and good luck..

  4. Like most of you, I have been told to take Calcium (in the form of Calcium Citrate) daily going forward. I have a hard time swallowing pills anyway and really would like a chewable. Has anyone tried the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate Lozenges? If so which flavor is best? Any other recommendations? I really like the Viactiv Chews - Caramel, but I know those are Calcium Carbonate and not preferred.

    NSV at Old Navy!

Fitting into a size 8 is one of my goals. I think I might be finally in a Misses 14. Everything at LB is just a bit too baggy. I plan to go to the mall tomorrow to check it out. I might have to swing into Old Navy. Congratulations Jenn! It has to be a WONDERFUL feeling.
  6. Okay - for anyone interested. The Calcet Calcium Creamy Lemon Bites are not half bad. Pretty tasty I thought. A bit difficult to open since they are individual wrapped in blister packs. They advertising them as tasting like lemon pound cake. I thought they tasted more like lemon pound cake batter. I think 40cal is a bit high for me to take 3 times a day, but a nice change from some of my other calcium options and will definitely have a least one a day.
  7. Barbara,

Let me know how the seminar went tonight.

Had a GOOD day today :))

Chancie, How interesting. It was knee surgery that prompted me to finally take the WLS plunge also. Made me realize that it wasn't bad knees that were the problem. I had knee surgery on my left knee end of May. I attended a WLS seminar mid-June. What a difference the weight loss has had on my knee and my life. You said it all. I love my SLEEVE.
  9. We are NEW DVC members as well and going to Disneyworld for Thanksgiving. We are so excited. I have two boys 8 & 4 and are staying at AK. I have a mini goal of being under 185 before our trip - 4.2 lbs to go. WhooHoo!
  10. Ooh, that would be fun. Le's try to put somehing together. I'm in.
  11. Hey DeeDee! You are looking GREAT!!!! Keep it up! Linda
  12. Hi. I'm from Dallas area also and had my surgery with Dr. Nicholson on August 4th. My insurance had a WLS exclusion, so I was self pay. I don't regret my decision at all - it was the best thing I could have done for myself. My only regret is that I didn't get the Sleeve earlier. Go to Dr. Nick's seminar and let me know if you have any questions. I would be happy to help.
  13. Hi Barbara,

I didn't purchase supplemental insurance - I didn't even think about it. In hind sight, probably would have been a good idea to cover complications if there were to be any. I did use CareCredit - I elected to do the 18 month no interest option.

    Broke into the two-fers

Yay Bob!!!! Congratulations on the Two-fers (Two-ferland...?). You look GREAT!!! Keep up the good work.
  15. Barbara,

I think if I were you and couldn't be on solids before the Holidays, I would wait until right after Christmas. A week should be fine to recover. I will still tired the second week but was able to make it through each day. On day 15, it was like someone flipped a switch and I was back to my normal energy level. I wouldn't wait much longer knowing what I know now. I wish I would have met Dr. Nick years ago.

FYI - tonight we went out for burgers after a late soccer game (remember, I'm 3 months out). My husband ordered a burger and cheese fries. I ate about 1/10 of his burger and few of his fries. I am still stuffed and satisfied. Technically, I cheated, but only ate about a tenth of what I would have eaten prior to surgery. That's what I love about the sleeve, I can still have it just not much of it.

    Stall or Not?

I can totally relate. I am at 11 weeks post op and am stuck in a stall for the last 10 days. Nothing. Not up, not down. I know it is normal for our bodies to stall from time to time. It's frustrating, no doubt. Apparently the laws of physics don't apply in my body this week. How is it possible that I can eat 700 cal a day, burn off on average 500 cal a day at the gym and NOT lose weight? I know in my head, the Laws of Physics will prevail and the weight will come off.
  17. Anyone try the New Calcet Calcium Creamy Lemon Bites? I ordered some online last night. The marketing says they taste like little squares of lemon pound cake. Hmmm:001_unsure:... we'll have to see about that. I am not convinced but willing to try anything to get my calcium in.
  18. I am stuck in a little bit of a stall the last 10 days. My body is not cooperating with my plan this week. It is not possible to consume so many fewer calories than you burn and not lose weight, but apparently my body is defying the laws of physics. No worries, the scale will move, it can't help but move.

Good luck with your decision. I once saw someone write that they were not removing part of a perfectly good stomach, it wasn't good, it was too big. They instead were having the doctor correct a birth defect. The Lord made their stomach too big and the Dr. was correcting it to the perfect size for their metabolism. After having the surgery and living 12 weeks with my sleeve, I couldn't agree more.

    Keep in touch,

    Linda

  19. I too was willing to go to MX to have surgery but my DH was not. He was more than willing to put out the extra $ to have me stay in Dallas. Before I went to Dr. Nick's seminar, I was all set on the Band. After learning about the sleeve and hearing others problems with the band, I thought the sleeve sounded like everything I every wanted in a WLS. I was right. I am almost 12 weeks out have lost 54lbs. I can pretty much eat whatever I want. Just not much of it. I am satisfied with just a couple oz of whatever it is my family is having. Of coarse I have to get my protein in first and my water, but there is nothing really I can't have a taste of. Recently, I have come to the realization that I am a CARB junkie. If I start eating carbs, I want MORE - even though I am not hungry and often couldn't eat another bite. It's really a brain thing, brain and stomach are SOMETIMES NOT on the same page. Lesson learned, for me, limit carbs.

  20. Hi Barbara -

Welcome to the forum. I would be happy to answer any questions you have about my experience. I am doing really well. No regrets at all. In fact I wish I had done it years ago. Dr. Nick and his staff are wonderful. Surgery was easy for the most part. It was way easier than a c-section, a little more painful than my gall bladder being removed. At 2 weeks out I had a scare. I was having unexplained back pain. I called Dr. Nick and he had me come in right away just to check things out. Sent me down to have a CT where I got to drink the "yucky stuff". My sleeve was perfect. Back pain ended up being from back spasms - some of our abdominal muscle wrap around to the back. They were still stressed from the surgery ( I went back to work 5 days after surgery) and started to spasm. But Dr. Nick was great and it felt great to know my sleeve was in perfect health.

    Tara's Journey

Judy, Alex posted a thread with Ticker instructions/tutorial on the VST Forum Assistance and Suggestions Forum. Way down on the bottom of the Forums page (4th from the bottom I think). I hope that it helps.

    Tara's Journey

Hi Tara. Welcome to VST. I was sleeved in early August. I am very familiar with post-op gas pains, I was miserable after my first c-section. However, with my sleeve surgery, I did not have very much gas pain at all. I was pleasantly surprised. I kept my drain for several days post-op. It was kind of weird, but didn't hurt. My advise post-op is walk, walk, walk. It's the best thing you can do for your recovery. Good Luck with your journey!

    coffee and creamers

For a while, I just used SF International Delight. Last week I received some Bariwise protein hot chocolate (15gm protein), I now turn my morning coffee into a mocha by adding coffee to the protein hot chocolate powder. I get my coffee and breakfast together. I also received some Bariwise protein Almond Cappuccino but haven't tried it yet in my coffee . Linda

    Whatcha' Eating?

"Once I cave into eating carbs..I just want more and more, it has nothing to do with hunger...just appetite and desire to eat Pasta, bread, chocolate..don't do it people..I am gonna give it my best shot tomorrow.." __________________ Steph, I know exactly what you mean. If I can resist the carbs, I have pretty good days. If I break down and eat carbs, I crave more. It's a vicious cycle. Linda
