  1. Thank you for the comment on my picture. It is so hard in the beginning (I am still there). I can't see the difference in the mirror, but I can in the pictures. Make sure to take lots of pics of you before hand so you will have a good comparison. Keep me updated!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I am going to keep trying, I am already worried about trying to progress to week 2, but to tell you the truth, I didn't think I could do the week 1 either. I have never seen my heart rate that high. It kinda surprised me. When I first started the Elyptical my heart rate would hit 159 and the screen would beep and black out! lol, now on that machine my heart rate doesn't go above 140. But 170 man! I am going to have to wait till Saturday to do my next day (out of town for the Holiday). But I will be thinking of you guys!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Okay, I just finished day 2. It was harder than day one, I think because I am still so sore from day 1. I walk at 3.0 and jog at 4.0. My heart rate got to 170. After I did my jogging program, I went to do weights and my nose started bleeding. I wonder if it has anything to do with how fast my heart was beating? The only time I have ever had a nosebleed was with allergies. I don't have allergies right now. I can't imagine ever increasing the time or speed when I do this. I struggle with each step as it is. I guess if I continue to do week 1 over and over, at some point it has to get easier.
  4. Thank you guys for the comments. Rebif is injected 3 times a week. It seems to be working great, but who really knows? I can't believe your Dr., that is horrible. Thank God we have great insurance, the shots are over 150 a pop otherwise. You guys really are inspirational.
  5. That is awesome - you will Love your Bugg! I am glad your seminar went well - your psych eval will be a breeze. Just make sure you tell them you have a good network of support. I am scared to go run today, I still hurt - the odd thing my ribs hurt the worst today? The only thing I can think of is all the gasping for air I do! Ha! I started parking further away from things too - a great way to add a bit of exercise in. I can't wait for you to get banded, you are so motivated - you will be a fast loser.

    I must be crazy!

Okay, so I have been working out at the gym everyday. I feel so good about myself that I am actually doing this and making an effort to lose weight. On to the crazy part. I am trying, (note I said trying and not DOING) to do the Couch to 5K Program. Today was my first day and I feel like I am going to die. Literally, my body would welcome death right now! The program starts you off with a 5 minute warm up walk, then you run 60 seconds, walk briskly for 90 seconds, run for 60, you get the picture. I downloaded the wonderful podcast so the guy tells you when to run and when to talk. The guy (insert sorry sob), in the middle of the run, says, in a calm soothing voice, you should be relaxed while running, you shouldn't be out of breath, you should be able to speak to someone next to you. Are you freakin kidding me? I couldn't have called out for help at that point! I did it. I did the 1st day. I am supposed to do day 2 on Wednesday. I hope I can walk by then :-) My lungs hurt, my hips hurt and I hate the man on the tape. How did your day go?
  7. Hi guys, I don't have MS, but my husband does. He was diagnosed in 04-05. He is on Rebif. We were in the Military and they kept thinking he was lying because his symptoms were so bad (Numbness in both feet and hands, pain in back, migraines, swaggering gate). They attributed it to a back problem. They gave him the choice of having surgery on his back or opting out of the Military, so we ended up doing surgery on his back (thinking it was a back problem). The spine didn't fuse and the Dr. clipped a nerve and caused a rare nerve disease in his foot. (RSD) They Medically retired him, then months later he went blind in one eye. They did an MRI and he had over 25 lesions on his brain. The IV Steroids got his vision back, but he is in so much pain from the failed spinal fusion and nerve disease, he is miserable. His last MRI showed that the lesions had almost all gone away . . . the Dr. seemed amazed. He has developed a couple more lesions on his spine, but his brain no longer looks like a glow stick! It is really nice to know that you guys are doing so well with LapBand and living with MS to boot! I can only imagine how strong you all are.
  8. I feel like I am dying today! Every muscle in my body hurts. I guess that is good - but man, I am achy. I have a slight back problem as well. My back doesn't hurt all the time, but when I lay down, my right thigh goes numb, the Dr. said it is a pinched nerve in my back and it should get better with weightloss. It has, I only feel it now when I lay down after a hard workout. My hubby has a horrible back, multiple failed surgery, I can tell you this. There is no pain compared to that of true back pain. I feel for you. (typing as I breath shallow due to even my chest hurts!)

    Tricare Prime Ins Coverage

My Barium Swallow: You stay dressed and stand in front of this large xray machine. They give you a little pill cup filled Barium (looks and kinda tastes like Milk of Magnesia). The turn the machine on, I can actually see my tummy and everything on the screen, they tell you to swallow and the Barium shows up on the screen. You actually see it go down to your pouch and then into your lower stomach. It coats everything, kinda like the old Pepto Bismol commercials. They watch to make sure your pouch hasn't stretched and also to see how fast the liquid goes through. My Dr. does this before he gives you a fill. Hope this helps!

    Im a good Auntie....

That is so cool! Is she in the calendar also? Maybe we should hire your niece to do a Lapband calendar with a tiny before picture and a huge after picture of our success stories!

    I must be crazy!

lol, I wish - I do it at the gym on a treadmill. I would love to do it outside, but Texas heat . . . I don't think I could walk it let alone run it. Hopefully this fall I can incorporate my puppies into the run. (If I don't go into cardiac arrest on Wednesday!)

    I must be crazy!

Thanks! I am totally new to running, heck I have only been working out at all for 2 months! I need all the help I can get!

    I must be crazy!

My normal workout is 33 min on the eliptical everyday in Weightloss Mode Then about 20 min strength training on my arms (I have 0 upper body strength), then a few times a week I also hit the treadmill or bike. I work out 45-1 hour 6-7 times a week. I want to make sure I don't get too stiff, I am not sure if I should only run on MWF, or just add the running into my current schedule.

    I must be crazy!

I am going to do it again on Wednesday, all though as the day progresses, every time I stand up, I feel like I broke both hips! Ugh! Do you know, should I do my regular exercise on the days I run, or skip them on those days?

There is a thread in the Exercise and fitness forum with links to 2 different podcasts. The thread is: couch 5k come join me the links are on the first page of responses, near the bottom. I downloaded the first one, but as I re-read it, they suggest the second link.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I did it and I am dying! lol. I have NEVER ran - ever. I downloaded the first podcast and about died when he says, you should be able to run this without getting winded - you should be able to talk while you run! Are you kidding me? Am I the only person who was totally out of breath? My hips hurt - on the outside of the leg - is that normal? I figured my calves and thighs would hurt, but the outside of my hips? Weird. And my lungs - I felt like I have Bronchitis (I had Childhood Asthma, I kept thinking, I feel an attack coming on . . . nope!) During the run, I kept thinking, screw this, I can't do this. But I wanted to see if I could. When I finished, I thought I wouldn't do it again - you guys are crazy. Now, an hour later, I am thinking how soon Wednesday will get here. I hope I can keep it up.

    Use of Ibuphophin

    Use of Ibuphophin

Most Dr.s suggest no NSAIDs, Tylenol is Acetaminophen, not an NSAID. The reason for no NSAID's is due to the increased chance of stomach ulcers. (NSAIDs are known to cause ulcers), since your new tummy is so small, the pill would land in the same place over and over, increasing your chance even more for ulcers. (this is how it was explained to me). I can't remember is I can put a link in here, but here goes: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia With that being said, I have a pinched nerve and every now and again I have to take a Flexeril. A prescription NSAID. I freaked out, called my surgeon, he said it is fine to take - break it as small as I can (so it goes through the pouch), drink with lots of liquids. He said as long as I don't take them often I should be fine.

Desperate...anyone have good dog training advice?

You can teach the dog to sit before being petted, that is the "gentle" way to do it. They can't get any attention unless they are sitting. (it is great for dogs who go crazy at the door bell and such) The most effective way is a knee to their chest - you don't "Knee them", but when you see them jump, pop your knee out, after they bounce into it a couple of times, they will start jumping up, but not touching you - then eventually stop all together. Another way, when they jump, gently press down on their back paws with your foot (best if you can be barefoot). Until the dog jumps down. You aren't trying to injure the paw, you are just giving them a negative feeling when they jump up. this works fast too. (just don't do it if you are angry, you could hurt the dog) Good Luck!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

I have never been able to run. As a child I had severe childhood (exercise induced asthma), as well as being very overweight. As an adult, I am so big, and my boobs hurt so bad when trying. However, I now go to the gym 6-7 days a week and have mastered the elliptical! So, maybe I am ready to run. I think I will try this. Do you add it to your regular workout or replace your workout with this? For example, I do 33 minutes on the elliptical everyday and do weights every other day and throw in the treadmill and bike occasionally to spice things up. Do I not do any of this the days I TRY to run? Or run and do my regular routine?
