  1. I had surgery 6/19. I lost 30 pounds pre-op then gained 3 back. Since surgery I have lost 18. I am at a total loss of 45. This includes my pre-op dieting.
  2. Is anyone struggling with family members. I am struggling with family watching me eat and making comments. Saying things like: "Should you be eating that?", "Aren't you supposed to eat the protein first?", "Wow can you have that?", "That is just a poor choice.", and my personal favorite, "If you eat like that you will gain 10 pounds before your first fill!" I was banded on 6/19. I lost 30# pre-op and 15# post. I have lost 8.5 inches post-op. I am supposed to have my first fill next week. I know that my family loves me, but how do you get them to realize you are the one in control. In a nice way. I wouldn't hurt them for the world and I know that they are just worried and concerned, but I need some breathing room. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this and did it go away as you progressed. I am hoping that when my family sees how well I am doing and that I am succeeding they will back off. Comments....Questions....

    Family Issues

Thanks so much everyone for all of the input. I really appreciate it. I know that we will all get through this. There may be some toes stepped on or hurt feelings on both sides, but that is life. As long as we remember that we are a family and love each other we will come through to the other side stronger, healthier, and happier.
  4. I also like the unjury. I however like the unflavored kind. You can mix it in with any soup you want and bump up the protein by 20 grams. I recently discovered mixing it with SkinnyCow fat free chocolate milk. It adds 11 grams for a total of 31 grams of protein for 8 oz. It adds up to about 200 calories but I thought that was less than some shakes and less than most of the Protein Bars. It has been the only "shake" I can tolerate. Hope this helps.
  5. I was banded 6/19/09. I lost about 14 pounds in the first 6 days and then I went back up 4. I am now at the end of the second week and am back down the 4. I do not feel like I have much restriction now. I will not do my first fill for a couple of weeks. I was always a drinker. (not alcoholic) Just always took in a lot of liquids. That was one of my concerns in doing the band was that I wouldn't be able to take a big drink. I decided to do it anyway because, let's be real which was more important my health or a drink of kool-aid. I am now 15 days out and I can drink as I want. I don't feel like I get a lot of restriction from food either. I was wondering if anyone else felt this way. I had some green beans 1/4 cup and 1/2 of baby potato and 1/4 cup of corn for a family dinner. I was full enough to quit eating and get up from the table but I wanted more and still felt some hunger. Is this all in my head or is it real. I know that it is way less than I would have eaten pre-op but still should I have been able to hold all of that? I have had no episodes of vomiting or sliming. Then the next day I could not eat 3 oz of tuna. Just curious and nervous I am doing something wrong. I think that my nerves stems from this being a new process and a new way of life. Feedback would be welcome.
  6. Ask your doctor if he can help you find a name. Dr's have the ability to access each other through hospital systems. He may even be able to give you a name of someone he knows or that he knows has the same philosophy as him.
  7. Thanks everyone. Greytz the Dr. told me to eat cooked veggies if I wanted them. He also said that the only meat I could have right now was seafood (he said because of the softness issue) I was just tuna'd out. That is why I went for the veggies during the family dinner. So what I am eating was not my concern but the volume necessary to feel full. I am certain that once I can get my 1st fill and progress to lean chicken or beef that I will stay full longer. Thanks for the encouragement and tips.
  8. Amanda, I am only assuming that your fill in January was not your first one. Had they been ok until then? You have gone through too much and done too well to give up. Please call your surgeon and tell him about your fears. Sending well wishes and prayers your way!
  9. I was banded on 6/19 and the six days I went down 14 pounds. I then got to eat soft solids and promptly went up 4 pounds. This is week 2. I was initially a little disgusted that I didn't loose more but I went back down those 4 pounds. I am hoping that next week I can do 4-5 more. I think this must be very common due to the wild swing in your intake since surgery, along with IV fluids, anesthesia, and surgery in general.
  10. It is a federal law that when you receive a medically implanted device you are provided with a card that includes what was implanted and somewhere on it should have the lot number of the device. It is a safety precaution. You should carry this card in your wallet so that any medical practitioner taking care of you will be able to know that you have an implanted device in the event you cannot speak for yourself.

    new with questions

I felt the same way. I was banded on Friday 6/19 and on Monday 6/22 I had myself a big pity party. I wanted food. No liquid sounded like I wanted to drink it. The protien shakes all tasted bad etc. I really wanted to give up. Then I thought wait a minute, I can't quit. I have been through too much and I want the results too bad. So I shook it off and got back on board. I do have a question. I have been moved to soft foods. I feel like I could almost eat anything. I don't, but 4oz does not fill me up always. I also fill like things pass through quickly. I am pleased with my results. I have already lost 14 pounds. That's an average of 1 pound a day. WOOO HOOO! I just want to do what is right and know what to tell the doctor at my next visit. I feel like I am going to be one of those people that are dependant on the fills. Did anyone else feel this way?? Also, what is everyone's average weight loss for the first month?? Thanks everyone. This is a great support system! JSlone 30 pounds lost Pre-Op 14 pounds lost Post Banded 6/19

    Tired of it!!

I do worry about the few friends and loved ones I told about my surgery putting me and my plate under a microscope. My mom watches what I eat now. I know that she only comments because she is worried and concerned for my health. (I am an only child and my parents are divorced so she tends to be clingy.) I completely understand about not wanting everyone to know. I have only told those that I expect to be supportive. So if they do give me looks or overstep by examining my plate I know they love me enough that when I tell them to mind their own business they won't be upset. At least I hope so
