  1. Thank you for this info. I, too, started experiencing this just this past week after I bought a new pack of Dark chocolate Royale Atkins shakes. I thought maybe it was just my digestive system adjusting, but I am glad to see it's not. The new formula has also given me terrible gas, so I will be definitely filing my complaint, too. Did they change any of the other flavors? Thanks, Megan
  2. Hi Laura,

I, too, am experiencing some similar issues. I only lost about 13 pounds on the preop diet, and I am up 1 pound since the surgery. This does surprise me a bit, as I really am not eating all that much, it seems! But, I know it's very common, so I am trying not to dwell on it because I haven't really started doing exercise yet. I also have similar bathroom issues---and I have resorted to some fiber supplements, which seem to be helping. It probably doesn't help that I also got my menstrual period this week, too, so I am just feeling very blah. Looking forward to having restriction because right now I have none! Physically, though, I am feeling much better. See you on Wednesday!

  3. Hi Laura,

I will definitely be there at the March 3rd class---sounds like it will be a crazy afternoon with so many people needing to get in afterwards for appointments. Hopefully we can connect despite all of that! My incisions look pretty good---just the port site is still pretty sore and I am taking extra care of that area. My stomach itches soooo much...that's really my only complaint at this point. I headed back to work today (I am a teacher), so it was a busy day and I am exhausted tonight. I'm sure it will get easier. See you in a few weeks!

  4. Hi Laura,

I'm sure I walked past your room many times. I didn't meet anyone---it seemed that most people near me were there for other surgeries. I, too, am sore at the port site, so I am trying to be conscious and not bend over on that side. I actually am happy to have pureed/mushy food. Tonight I had pureed refried beans with a little avocado blended in and then I heated it in the microwave with a little cheese---it was delicious! Good luck tomorrow and keep in touch---it's nice to know someone else who's had the same surgeon and who's nearby. :) Megan

  5. Hi Laura,

What room were you in? I was in 6106. You may have seen me walking the halls in my yellow bath robe. I am feeling better today than I was the past week. I had to have a hernia repaired as well, so I think that has contributed to my pain. Overall, though, it's getting easier each day. I am trying to get the pureed food thing down---sometimes I am starving and other times I am not hungry at all. I actually managed to get out today and went to a movie with my husband. It felt good to be out and about. I also go tomorrow to get my staples out. My appt. is at 9:45. Hope you are feeling well and getting back to your old self. I am sure our paths will cross at some point. Maybe at our 1 month nutrition class or a support meeting. Do you live nearby? I am located in Plainfield. Hope you are on the mend and ready for a new way of life!

  6. Hi...I was banded on 2/9/10 by Dr. Joyce at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, IL. As luck would have it, we had a huge snowstorm that day, but I arrived in plenty of time for my surgery check-in. I found the hospital staff to be caring and wonderful. I didn't even feel the Lovanox shot to prevent blood clots, and that was something I was worried about! The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery---very groggy, but also in a lot of pain. My pain centered on my left side, and I think it's because of where they made the biggest incision. I found out after surgery that I had a hiatial hernia that also had to be repaired, so my pain could be from all of that. I thoroughly enjoyed having morphine, and I really needed it. Once I got into my room, I slept most of the afternoon until I was finally woken up and asked to walk the hallway. That really helped me get rid of some of the gas, but I will be honest, 2 days later, I now have the shoulder pain that most talk about. My recovery is slow and steady. I am feeling more comfortable today than yesterday, but I am very slow going. I am still taking my pain medication at regular intervals and also getting up and walking more and more to get rid of the gas. It felt great to take a shower today and get off all the dressings which were covering my wounds. Surprisingly, I am not hungry at all, and am just sipping on broth and drinking water. I am sure that will change tomorrow when I can start my mushies. All in all, it is just what I expected. I was so glad to spend the night in the hospital. I just really relied on the nurses to help me get up and down and to help me monitor my pain. I am looking forward to all that is to come! Megan Starting weight: 251 Weight on Day of Surgery: 231
  7. Wanna Be Fit @ 40: I am also being banded on Tuesday at Silver Cross with Dr. Joyce. What time is your surgery? I called the hospital today and they told me 11:20 am. We're supposed to get a ton of snow here tomorrow through Wed. morning...here's hoping all goes well!
  8. Did you have Dr. Joyce or Dr. Lahmann? I am being banded on 2/9/10 and was so happy to read your story. Thanks!
