    No where else to turn.

Definitely keep on with the insurance company! Find out what they require to be approved. Mine required a 6 month Dr. supervised diet, my medical records for the past 3 years, a psch evaluation, and a letter of recommendation from my Dr. They declined me the first time I submitted, but then after re-doing the Dr. supervised diet they approved me. It took me a little over a year to get approved, but I kept on keeping on! I wish you the best of luck and please do not ever give up!
  4. Hang in there! It's so upsetting to me to hear of your struggles. The whole point of you having this done was to feel restriction so you don't eat too much and still feel full. Please go to that Dr. appointment and be adamant about your concerns. Tell them your not leaving until you have some answers your comfortable with! Please ask him to withdraw the saline in your band just to check to see if you have all in there you are supposed to. Then tell him you want more in there. I wish you the best of luck and pray that soon you will be happy with your decision again!

Can anyone answer some questions for me???

I felt fine, just a little groggy after surgery. I was out patient and was home in my recliner 4 1/2 hours after being banded. The most difficult part for me was getting up from the toilet after surgery, those stomach muscles were really sore. You will be sore for 3-5 days, but it is completely manageable! The Dr. gave me Liquid Lortab for the pain. I had more than enough to last me. Not sure if that would help with your migraines but you should certainly talk to your Dr. about it. Do you take Imitrex? I'm sure you would be able to take an Imitrex shot if you needed. You can not feel the band around your stomach! You wouldn't know it was there except for the fact that you can't eat as much. I'll be 3 months post-op as of July 9th. I'm still learning to break old habits, but I'm averaging 2 pounds lost per week. So far so good! I absolutely would have no reservations about doing this again! Good Luck! If you have any other questions feel free to send me a message!

    Discouraged...

I struggled too! I only lost 1 pound between my 1st and 2nd fill! I had no restriction what so ever and was probably eating more than I should have. I was also walking 3-4 times per week. My dietitian said that I was gaining muscle mass by walking and since muscle weighs more than fat, I wouldn't see a big loss. After my 2nd fill though, I have enough restriction that I'm seeing the weight drop now. Your body may also have hit a plateau, and will start dropping again soon. Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing!

Just read and replied to MY FORUM--the STRUGGLERS!!

O.K. look I'm going to be completely blunt here. Your nurse and Dr. are full of SHIT! You should absolutely feel restriction! You need to find a new Dr.! When was the last time you had a fill? Have they ever checked to see if you for sure have 7cc in your band? I've heard of people and have a close friend that has lost fluid from their band. She thought there was 6cc in there and when they withdrew the fluid there was only 4.5. From your previous Blogs it sound like you have an uncaring, piss poor Dr and I would definitely look elsewhere! There's no sense in you feeling this frustrated when you've been through so much! Hang in there!

    Gaining weight

Instead of it being what you eat...could it be how much you eat? That has always been my biggest problem! I eat healthy just way too much! The band has been my "tool" to keep me from overeating.

    Question about PBs

Productive Burp. When you burp a lot after you eat and it comes back up. I've struggled with Pb's since my 2nd fill but I make sure I take a chewable Pepcid at least 30 minutes before I eat and it has been a life saver!

    A yummy summer beverage recipe!

Are there lots of people who can't eat watermelon? I'm able to eat it, but not pineapple!

Learning to live with the band!

Well things have gotten much better since my last fill. 2 weeks of hell afterward seem like a thing of the past now. I still find it difficult to eat anything in the mornings even after I've had 2-3 cups of coffee. Usually I just have my coffee and then a protein supplement. Lunch has been touch and go. Sometimes I can eat sometimes I can't and its another protein supplement. It seems like the flood gates are wide open at night though. By dinner time I'm usually loose enough to eat most things. But I still watch what I eat and keep the portion small, 1/2 to 1 cup of food and I'm done. I did discover today that deviled eggs are working for me. Last night I grilled hamburgers baked beans and deviled eggs for the family. I ate about 1/3 cup of beans, about 3 oz of a hamburger patty and 1 deviled egg. Today at lunch I ate 3 (halves)deviled eggs and had no problem keeping it down. Tonight I went with my DH and DD to a buffet restaurant. I started out with a bowl of cream of broccoli soup It was sooo good! Then I ate 2 small pieces of fish and 2 shrimp with lots of cocktail sauce also a couple of bites of mack and cheese and 2 bites of my DH steak. I steered clear of the desert bar and ice cream machine! Yeah Me! I'm still averaging about 1 pound every 3 days which is supposed to be average. I know it could be more and would be if I would exercise more! The problem is that right now in KY the heat and humidity have put the heat index at 105-110 every day. I'm not a morning person during the summer time and by the time I get up at 8 - 9:00 it's already to hot to walk. I have to wait until 9:00 at night to walk my 2 mile route. But my DS is on 2 baseball teams and for the past week I've been at the ballpark every night, but 1 until at least 10:00. I did walk on the 1 night that I was not at the ballpark. But I know it needs to be more. I just don't like walking that late at night by myself! I am starting to get a little nervous though as it is getting close to time for Aunt Flo to visit again. That's when I went through the 2 weeks of liquid hell last month. The week of Flo being here and the week after. I was filled 2 days before her visit and I'm pretty sure that I'm one of those people that retains so much water during that time that it makes my band tighter! I guess time will tell and I'll know in about another week or so!

  14. Hi Vanity! I just wanted you to know that I've been thinking about you and hoping everything has gone good! Hope things are better with your DH! Just remember you have lots of support on here! Can't wait to hear about your experience so far!

  15. Thanks BG for letting me know about the group. Is it the Banded Bunnies group? I joined, but I'm not sure about where to post my info. Things are staying down much better for me now! It's still a lot of trial and error and still learning to break old habits, but I'm getting there! Thanks for the encouragement! I love reading your blogs!

    Tired of Waiting

I feel you pain! I should be a year post-op by now but after completing the insurance required 6 month Dr. supervised diet last May, I was denied! Turns out, the insurance company didn't like the way my Dr. documented the monthly visits so I had to start over again! I began by seeing my PCP again in July and he sent me to a registered dietitian, then I continued to see my PCP every month for 6 months. My PCP made sure he documented my weight, my average daily caloric intake, my weekly exercise regime, and his recommendations. after 6 months he referred me to the surgeon. The surgeon had me go back to the dietitian and then submitted everything again to the insurance. I was finally approved on March 16th and banded on April 9th! I'm 11 weeks post-op now and am so happy with the decision I made. I was a long and very discouraging wait but was well worth it! Hang in there, it won't be easy but is so worth it in the end!

    6/24/09 Life Happens

Sounds to me like you are doing a great job parenting! And I'm so jealous about the Buffets concert! (I'm a former parrot head, been to 8 concerts but the last one was about 12 years ago!) Glad you made it after everything that went on!

    Distended, almost slipped band. Help!

I discovered with my 2nd fill at the beginning of this month that my period causes me to be so tight I can barely keep soup down. Like you, it took me about 2 weeks to be able to eat somewhat normally. But I still have to be very careful with what I eat or I will throw up. I have been concerned about causing my band to slip because of the throwing up. But my Dr. wanted me to wait till my period was over to see if it got any better. It took almost another week after the period before I was able to eat solid. Now, I'm really concerned that the same thing that happened to you could happen to me! How did you know that it had slipped?

    Recovery Time

With an office job you may be all right going back on Monday. I teach 5th grade, I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Thursday. I felt pretty tired by the end of the day but I made it. I've heard some people on here say that they needed more time, had lots of gas pain and pain around their incisions. (I still had gas pain in my shoulder when I went back to work and was still taking 1/2 dose of my pain meds). I would recommend telling your boss that you plan to come back on Monday but ask if it would be alright if you have any problems or are not feeling well if you could take a couple more days or work 1/2 days. Then you can play it by ear and see how your doing on Monday. Good Luck!

    i need help!!!!

I remember seeing brochures in my Dr.'s office about loans for surgery. There are companies out there that give loans for this type of surgery. I would go to a search engine and type in Bariatric loans and you should find some companies that you could apply to. Good luck!
