I feel like I have been doing terribly lately but I don't know how to get out of my old ways. I am just over three months out and I am only down 40lbs. I talked to someone I know who is down 100lbs and they are only 7 months out. I am just afraid I am never going to hit that point and that the lack of motivation and terrible diet I have been eating will stick. I had complications twice and had to have a second surgery at one point but I don't think these things have affected it. Any tips/help/advice??

So I went in for my first fill yesterday and it went horribly. The surgeon stuck the needle in me about ten times with no luck trying to find the soft spot on the port. Finally he said for me to come back on monday and he would do it under an xray so he could find the center spot. As I sat up, I asked him if it was normal to have some shoulder pain. Well, twenty minutes later I was rushed to the emergency room because of the amount of air the doctor inadvertently injected under my right diaphragm. I ended up being admitted to the hospital and held over night so they could do xrays, give me IV fluids, and some crazy pain meds. The surgeon is now afraid my port may be flipped which is why he couldn't get the needle in. All in all it was a miserable experience and it makes me not want a fill anymore. Anyone else have trouble like this?

So I'm allowed to start "regular" foods tomorrow. Do you think it would be a big deal if I started it a day early? I'm going back to work today and I work in a cafe with healthy stuff but not really anything mushy. So i'm wondering if it would be a big deal to have regular food starting today. I started mushies a day or two early and nothing I have eaten has gotten stuck. What do you think?

why am I gaining weight?
mgz234 replied to vikki1012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when i weighed myself a couple days after surgery i had gained 8lbs. its just all the fluids and gas they pump into you, it goes away i promise. i had my surgery on 6/19 and im down almost 22 pounds. it will go away. -
How quickly did your diet advance after surgery??
mgz234 replied to mpetterc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me a day or two of clear liquids, then full liquids till the one week mark, then mushies, then one week later regular diet. so ill be on no restrictions at the 2 week mark -
I'm on mushies too and I haven't blended anything. I've just been chewing a lot but I haven't had anything get stuck. I've had scrambled eggs, chicken salad, Cereal with a lot of milk so its very mushy, oatmeal, etc.

Okay so I know this isn't the most pleasant question but I was wondering whether I am alone in this. I got banded a week okay today and still have yet to have a regular bm. Did anybody else encounter this? The only time I have ever had anything was when I had fat free no sugar added ice cream without taking my lactose intolerance pill first and it certainly wasn't a "normal" BM. I have been taking colase almost everyday since surgery but still nothing.. Anyone else have this?

Hey everyone so I was just wondering what everyones doctors told them about caffeine. I know it is advised against after surgery but I'm a barista, there is no way I can never drink coffee again. I was wondering if maybe if I just had decaf? Not anytime soon considering I just had surgery but I was thinking months down the line. Do you think having decaf would be that big of a deal? I used to drink a TON of caffeine. At least 4 shots of espresso and an energy drink or 2 per day so just let me know what you think. Thanks!

Success/experiences the first month??
mgz234 replied to Agnes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you should definitely see loss in this time. my doctor required a two week pre op liquid diet and then the first day i was on clear liquids and then full liquids for a week and now i started mushies. I have lost 20lbs already so the liquids definitely jump starts the process. good luck! -

would peanut butter be considered mushy?

Hey I was just wondering if oatmeal was considered a pureed food? Any ideas?
-
only thing i would be careful with with those is that they are loaded with sorbitol which i know made me really sick. i know some people have a bad reaction to that.

quick question, please help.

Well fellow 6/19/09 bandsters and other 6/2009 bandsters....
mgz234 replied to ahb08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I got banded yesterday, 6/19. All went pretty well except for a little bit of low blood pressure and some trouble with the morphine. Did anyone else get extremely itchy skin from the morphine? They had to keep offsetting it with benadryl for me until this morning when before I left the hospital I was switched to vicodin instead. I'm home now and in a good amount of pain. I can't figure out what is pain or fullness from liquids because I haven't taken in the much. I feel pain in the middle of my stomach, somewhat gaseous, plus pain almost going up higher towards my mouth it feels like. (as if i could throw up) Anyone else having this trouble?
