Breakfast ideas that don't involve EGGS!

I make muffins (blueberry, banana...) and freeze them. I grab one each day or days that the thought of Cereal (cold or hot) isn't high on my list. There's a great muffin recipe on splenda's website. I've made them repeatedly and the family doesn't realize that there's no sugar. I find a muffin w/ an apple, banana or slice of melon is a great change.

    Does everything make you gassy?

I believe this is never ending. Some days are better than others. A good day is when my stomach doesn't rumble so load that the dogs bark:blushing: or my husband doesn't ask if I said something - when it's really my butt doing all the talking:lol:. The nutritionist suggests taking pepcid ac daily, which I did for awhile - it really didn't help matters. I've also tried soymilk (lactose free) for my Protein shakes and I swear it make it louder. I guess it could be worse... I don't feel pain and it's not the stinky gas...

    low carb low fat

you can make crab cakes, turkey chili, use ground turkey to make tacos, spaghetti sauce... I also eat lots of fish - there are a number of great recipes, most often I use cajun spices and blacken the fish. Pretty much I eat the same foods, but make substitutions to make it low in both carb and fat. Hope this helps.

    4 Days Post Op Question

What you're experiencing isn't unusual. It took me almost 3 weeks after surgery to have a movement. I have read on the site that others also experience this problem. Drink lots of Water, easier said than done... However, now that I'm eating food again and drinking LOTS of water things are better than they were prior to surgery - like you, I wasn't regular. Hang in there.

how many cc's on first fill

I had my first fill last week 9/15, 5ml in a 14ml band. Everything seems fine, I go back for my second fill the second week of November. I guess I'll eat a lot less turkey for Thanksgiving as result

    Favorite Protein rich foods

CRAB!!! I love crab and make crab cakes regularly, which I freeze and have available when the family has something for lunch/dinner that isn't good for me. You can really reduce the calories and carbs and still maintain great flavor by using egg whites instead of whole eggs and using reduce fat mayo. By the way, each crab cake is only 105 cals w/ 16g of Protein. I also make crab salad.

What are you eating each day?

Hi! I was told to stay w/n 1000-1200 cals and to get 80-100g of Protein each day - 3 meals and 2 Snacks. By the way, I just received my first fill Tuesday 9/15 - 5ml in my 14 ml band. A typical day includes the following: Protein shake on my drive in to the office. Cereal around 9:30 or so (usually, cream of wheat made w/skim milk and a single packet of sugar) snack mid-morning: dry roasted sunflower seeds or rice cakes lunch: crabcake, which I make with a little low fat mayo and egg whites, panko bread crumbs and seasonings... or I'll have a veggie burger minus the bread - though, I'm allowed Pita, bagels and any whole grain breads at this point. snack late afternoon: protein shake dinner: fish, chicken or crab w/steamed or stir fry veg If I haven't gotten enough protein, I'll drink an Isopure or bullet before bed.

1st fill of 4 CC and kinda scared

I had my first fill today; 5ml in my 14ml band. It was performed in the Radiology dept of the hospital as my doc does the first few fill via fluoroscopy - he cleaned the area off, then injected something to numb the area (something similar to novacaine); there was a little discomfort (nothing bad) when he inserted the tube to administer the saline solution. I drank a contrast solution shortly after, then they removed the tube and I was done. I go back again in 8 weeks.

    pre-op liquid diet menu?

Lots of liquid Protein in the form of shakes (unjury) and Ispoure (grape frost & blue raspberry) drinks. Typical day: Breakfast: shake snack: 1/2 Isopure drink lunch: Soup - my doc allowed creamy Soups as long as I watched the carbs snack: the remaining half of the isopure drink dinner: soup and yogurt also, most evenings I'd have one of the following before bed: yogurt: low-fat sugar free Jello: sugar free popcicle: sugar free protein bullet - if I didn't reach the protein target You'll be surprised at how full you'll be if you take in 80-100g of protein.
  13. Hello! I saw the doc for my post op visit yesterday and complained about being so very tired. Well, the answer to my problem appears to be Protein. Seems protein is the answer to everything. Not only does protein prevent hair loss, and the drawn look people get from weight loss - it also helps increase energy. I've been informed to increase my protein from 60g per day to 80-100g per day to increase my energy level. By the way, I wanted to share a tip that the nutritionist shared with me - I hate the chemical/weird smell of protein powders; well, the nutritionist suggested that I add extract to the shakes. I add 1 teaspoon to each drink and that has actually gotten rid of weird smell. She also suggested, almond, orange... extracts. Just wanted to pass this along.
  14. I was banded Monday, Aug 10th:thumbup:. I'm sore still, most of my discomfort appears to be from the hiatel hernia repair; a little discomfort near the incisions. My biggest complaint is that I'm so very tired. I'm walking around the yard and the house to keep gas at bay - I'm just extremely fatigued and worry if this will pass in the next week as I'm scheduled to return to work on the 24th. I'll bring this up with the dr Thursday when I return for my follow up appt. By the way, I can't wait to get a good nights sleep; sleeping with 3 pillows bracing me doesn't make for comfortable sleep.

    Why Cheat?

Yes, I'm still new here and have not been banded yet - scheduled for Monday 8/10; but after reading a number of threads/posts I wonder why so many people are out to sabotage themselves? Why nibble that piece of chicken when your Dr. says liquid only... Falling off the wagon only hurts you and the outcome (success) you deserve. Believe me, these few days of the pre-op liquid diet haven't been easy - I continue to remind myself that nothing worth having is ever easy. I'm not judging - who am I to judge... Yes, I want something crunchy to eat and Yes, that Chinese food my husband ate last night was tempting and Yes, I want things to eat now that never crossed my mind in the past and Yes, I know that this is only the beginning and after surgery I'll be in band HELL as many of you have mentioned But, the thought of finally being in good health and more importantly being able to have tremendous acrobatic sex :tongue2: with my husband outweighs the urge to cheat. In addition, I have visions of wearing a 2-piece bathing suit next summer for the first time in over 20 years. :tt2: I owe this to myself, just as you all owe it to yourselves.

    I find you very interesting.

    Protein, Protein, Protein...

    I should have named this thread "HAIR" ; - }

    Why Cheat?

As I mentioned earlier, I plan to use every tool available to help me succeed; I didn't go thru the pain of surgery to do anything but succeed. If I find that I'm weakening at any point - I am human; I will contact the surgeon's office, psychologist or nutritionist for all the support they can offer. I still feel that there's no reason to cheat when we all have a variety of support options available.

    who is starting mushies??

Gee, I was banded on the 10th and doc told me I could start mushies on the 31st, exactly 3 weeks after surgery. I'm jealous...

I can see why people cheat....

A juicy rib eye steak called to me. I prepared them for my husband and son 2 days before surgery. The Dogs loved me that day; I prepared an extra steak and sat at the kitchen counter away from everyone else (no need in grossing the guys out) and chewed small pieces of my steak, which I then feed to the dogs. Nope, I didn't swallow any of it, this was probably the best meal the dogs have ever gotten.

    Protein, Protein, Protein...

I guess I've been lucky, I haven't experienced ANY hair loss and I'm actually starting to see some definition in my face. I've since increased the Protein and don't feel as fatigued - could be mind over matter. Whatever the case, whether there's a correlation between hair & protein - energy & protein... I'll continue to follow the docs orders - increased protein, walking, Vitamins... as this seems to work for me.

    I feel like crap ):

I'm 2 weeks out and can't wrap my mind around food, especially junk food. Stay away from the junk... give your body a chance to heal. I'm counting down to my 3 week mark so that I can add egg whites (the thought of an egg white omelete is dancing in my head), fish, soggy cereals and cottage cheese - yep, stage 3 (pureed diet). Don't screw yourself up. Hang in there and do what the doctor has ordered - you can do this.
  23. My doc also required that I stop smoking; I tried repeatedly but found it difficult during the week prior to surgery (pre op liquid diet). I actually had my last cig the night before surgery which was scheduled for 2:30 on Aug 10th. The doc came by to see me prior to the procedure and asked if I had stopped smoking and I lied and said yes, 3 days ago - actually it was more like 16 hrs:blush:. I wouldn't recommend this to you or anyone else; I seem to be the poster child for bad behavior. The surgery went as scheduled and I couldn't smoke for a week after. I thought that I could stop at this point but needless to say, I'm smoking again, not as much as before. Just sharing my experience...
