What's the worst thing someone said to you?
kwhenrykerr replied to annieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess the worst think someone has said to me was the lady in the public library. It was one of the days that I did not look my best. You know the days; fat, sloppy... well that must mean you are stupid. Well I ask for help with a reference book that they kept in the back and she told me that people like me should not be in the library. I was stunned, hurt, and speechless. I though about it for a few minutes and told myself that she must be having a very bad day and needed a dog to kick. I took it as a lesson of what not to do. -
Shopping for a Dr. in Mexico
kwhenrykerr replied to Dakota1984's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr Ortiz: I paid in advance, no extra charges were added to the band. They speak great english (but they sound a little like mexicans) they are easyer to understand than a bunch of the Yankees I work with. As for the practice of stating one price and charging another, that sound like my American Doctor (boy I do not want to start talking about this) Every time I go to the office I ask the price before going. 100% of the time they raise the price, we discuss it they lower the price, I pay it in full at the time of service. Then the bill comes in the mail... opps you owe more money...makes me want to crap in the return mail and send it. -
My girl had BC/BS and they were a pain in the back side. But we did not give up untill they paid $68,000.00 for her WLS plus the after care. Do not give up.

First fill 361, about 30 day later with holiday eating 354 on Jan 2. 1.5 inches off of belt line. I was told to try to expect 1-2 pounds per week off as a goal. It is working, I eat anything, just not much and the hunger monster is almost gone, its now a pussycat that is easy to control. I carry a proten bar and if the pussycat starts to cry I feed it. It will spoil a dinner reservation but that what brown bags are for. -
That was in the summer, ask

Shopping for a Dr. in Mexico

The flight turned out to be the worst part of the whole trip. I love to fly but it was way too long. Say hello to the hotel staff for me they were great. After banding we took a ride to the beach by the US border, some folks were sliping by the fence and entering the us the sliping back into mexico (ah, a life of crime). Anyway have fun, remember to walk. That means that you can shop till you drop. If you need a recomendation for a back street Taco shop I will ask my girl where we went so that her and her mother could eat 3 for a dollar great tacos. They would not let me have any (rotton they were). -
Have you ever blown up a long baloon? That is you gut, now put a ring around it and move it back and forth. Easy right? Well lets move the ring close to one end and put a stitch around it to hold it in place. Most doc's I am told do this. As you heal the body says "Hey what the heck is that" and starts to build tissue around the object. The more time passes the more your body glues this in place. The thing is to allow time for this to happen. Thats why the request to not PB. If the ring moves it may slip back into the place it was before, if it did not go too far. So its not a black and white answer. If an unfill will allow the ring to return to its place, thats great. Just stop doing what made it move. If it will not return or has gone wandering up or down the dr will fix it. Moral of the story, play it safe, follow directions. If you think it has moved go get a flouroscope look at it, easy. With the floro you can "see" inside. When the dr does this ask to look and have them point out what you are looking at. A picture is worth a thousand words. As a help look at a picture of what the system looks like, that way you will have a better idea of what you are seeing.

As far as I can say "once is to much". For me it only happens when I do not chew my food very well or it is dry. If I eat soft food (scram-egg) I do not think about chew, chew, chew. Dry chicken will kill me. Solution: Chew, let the saliva mix and savor the taste, chew some more then on to the gut. If I follow the directions the only thing that suffers is that my food gets cold. Small price to pay for no PB

What are you doing eating simple carbs, they turn to sugar ASAP. Try eating meat, it takes time to go past the band. Just to be sure, are you drinking with food?

Lynn, try looking up fillcenterusa.com they are adding more locations all the time. A phone call will give you even more up-to-date information than the web site. I just got my second fill from fillcenter and it was as tight as the first. Both times they filled untill Water would not go down, then took a little out till water was easy. Both times I requested the floro and barriun to check it and was very happy. Today is one week after my second fill and it is perfect if I follow the rules, chew, chew, chew. -

Bands eroded, slipped or still successful bands?
kwhenrykerr replied to PamRN's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You must be misguided, reread the survey. You math is also in question. 30 plus 80 equal 110, 30 is 27% of 110, Half is 50%, almost half is bad math.:faint: The small flawed survey the you are talking about speakes for itself. The band works fine most of the time. Wishing you all the best in this new year. -

Robin Reading and doing your own homework makes you a smart girl, the band will make you a slim thing. Good job -
I would think that a hospital will have a flouroscope. I go to fillcenterusa.com St. Pete office. I went for my second fill Tues. and they were wounderfull. The fill went great, they try to keep teaching you how to get the best loss of weight. I am right on track and have lost another 7 pounds.

Determined To Have The Band
kwhenrykerr replied to Amy M's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good Luck with the Doctors office helping with the Insurance. When my girl had her bypass done the doctors office was not very helpfull, lots of smiles that were a put on. She had a US doctor who acted like a god. Dealing with the insurance company was a pain in the ass. But we got it done and now she is almost 200 pounds lighter. I went the Lap-Band route and avoided lots of the trouble she had. I am going for my second fill in the morning. I am happy with my band, my weight loss and it has been the right thing for me. I wish you good luck, keep working with the insurance and hr people, it's worth all the effort. -

Shopping for a Dr. in Mexico
kwhenrykerr replied to Dakota1984's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
There are lots of great Doctors for the Lapband. I went to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico for two basic reasons. 1) I was able to pay and not wait 2) He was my second choice for a Doctor untill I spoke with some of his banders. Maybe if you set up a list of what you want in a Doctor and keep asking questions you will find your answer. Do your homework, make an informed decision and do not put it off. My big regret is having to wait, life keeps getting better.
