Had gastric bypass can I have the lap band???
kwhenrykerr replied to mama3girls's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Doc has lots of experience, my girl wanted to take him home (a looker with charm) he may be a good source of information. http://www.obesitycontrolcenter.com/about_dr_ortiz.html Take advantage of his information and best wishes -
Brandy, was a larger band used the second time? Have you had any fills? Are the fills with Floro? Why did you need rebanding? Best wishes

To Brandy: I would worry about gurgling etc. It sounds like you may be full and not thinking you are full. It can be a head game with yourself. I often fell full in my belly but not in my head. I am working hard to relearn FULL.

What have you heard?

My girlfriend of 7 years had WLS 3 years ago. She was a BIG CHICKEN but when her doctor held a mirror up to her face and told her " Look at that face, now go outside and look for one that looks like that 10 years older" it may have been rough but she got the idea. Now almost 200lb lighter and much happyer. I was at last able to afford WLS and looking to more happy years with her.

I had my first fill 4 day ago. It was done a floro-scope to aid the fill. My demand. It went fine, found the port easy, got the right amount, not loose, it was a little tight on day 3 but is better today. I am very happy with my fill. I have read that some need 5,6,7 or more fills to feel a restriction.

I ask my Life insurance company. They are betting that I live longer with the band than without. I would bet that they have a lot better information than my doctor. The idea that I might enjoy life a lot more is not something that the insurance cares about, only that they will collect money and not pay a claim.

I eat a very small amount of Penut Butter before bed, no drinking.

I do not mind weight discrimintation it is a reality. I object to the idea that people do not pre-judge things. It is the way people deal with the issues of discrimintation. Goverment and Law should be blind, people are not. We are all "one human family" as the gays like to say. I agree with that. Being Fat, White, Redneck, Cheap, etc. are discriptions that fit. In dealing with others I try to take each one as a person first. I interact better with people that I might pre-judge than those that have shown themselve to deserve less respect. I try to start everone at 100% and they can go up or down on my scale. I reserve the right to rate everyone on my terms, as they should do the same to me. I am sometimes forced to review my judgement and make my own mistakes known. What the heck, that is human.

Mexico or States
kwhenrykerr replied to beachgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was Self-Pay, waiting to save the money to have the band in the US was not the smart thing to do. The quiality of care in Mexico was great. My US doctor who suggested the Lap-Band and knew that I am a working class person with limited money had said he would do the fills, won't. When he found out that I went to Mexico the office got a little colder. I have the impression that the Doctors are making "Bussiness" decisions and not "Medicial" decisions. I start to feel like I am dealing with someone who is looking after their best intrest and not My best intrest. -
It makes it very clear where the port is and where the tubing is. The ability to hit the port and watch the fill is clear. It is like walking through your house with your eyes oprn, then being blindfolded and doing the same walk. I have used fillcenterusa.com and the cost for my first fill with floro cost $299 and worth every penny. I am self-pay and it took years to put away the money for my band in Mexico

Lap-Band Police That is what true stories are. We need to hear of problems to raise the issues that need fixing. We all make mistakes, it is how they are handled...

Weigh too much for band?
kwhenrykerr replied to Sleeved and Relieved's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Go to Mexico before you get the bypass. I have personal experience with both. call me if you want 305-896-2227 -
I have been looking for a fill site with floro close to home (Key West) the best I was able to do was St. Petesburg (by Tampa). Boy am I happy with them fillcenterusa.com Nice place, great staff, wow what an education. I can see how without the floro you might miss the port or dammage the tubing.

non-supportive boyfriend
kwhenrykerr replied to drmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If I was your boyfriend and loved you (this is not a come on) I would wish you sucess in your goal. I would be fearfull of the increased looks from other guys. Having said that let me tell you that my girl has lost almost 200 lb and she is getting more looks from the guys. As a matter of fact this has caused me to be in a fix, she wants more looks than I can give her. She feels better about herself and it is great. I smile inside when I see her getting "looks" if this leads to another then it is for the best. I do not want to see her go. So I must try to keep up. We love each other more now than when we met, but the door is always unlocked. -
"BUT, in medical circles, when a patient has NOT lost 50% of his or her excess weight one year out, it is defined as a failed surgery." Medical Circles ??? I am happy to feel better, live better, I guess death say that we failed in life.

I would like to see the numbers to support the ideas expressed. Facts are things are hard to come by. But I do like to hear opinions. -
